From its origins in 1992, when the local housing association at that time allocated a tenement house to a group of residents who were keen to participate in the arts, Drumchapel Arts Workshop, (DRAW) has continued to hold a valued and valuable place in the local and wider community. Since those early days many developments and positive partnerships have evolved, and from our milestone achievement of obtaining charitable status in 2010, our recently established venue on the ground floor of a block of high rise flats offers an informal workplace in which those from the local community and beyond can express their creative potential. Originally DRAW was encouraged to seek funding through Urban Aid, and we are currently funded through GCC from an Integrated Grant Fund. Over the years a dedicated committee has worked to ensure a wide variety of interesting and successful programmes and projects are available to participants. The many statutory organisations and agencies with whom we have worked, including the NHS, occupational therapists, Momentum, Right Track and Careers Scotland continue to help us to open access to the arts and to widen the horizons of those who participate in the project. The sense of wellbeing, confidence and social integration which evolves from appreciating and sharing our cultural wealth is frequently acknowledged by our participants and we welcome and enjoy a diverse clientele.

Families Outside is the only national charity in Scotland working exclusively on behalf of families affected by imprisonment. We speak to thousands of families each year, providing information and support on issues such as housing, finance, and emotional support. Our Helpline, 0800 254 0088, provides impartial information and support and is often the first port of call for families looking for help. If family members require more in-depth support, our Regional Family Support team is on hand throughout Scotland and can offer direct, 1:1 support until a positive outcome is reached.Families Outside Who we Are What we do Front Cover Our booklet entitled Who We Are & What We Do summarises the work of Families Outside and why we believe that it is so important. Background The Bassetlaw Action Centre was established as a Manpower Services Commission project in 1983 and was transferred to Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Service in 1989, who managed the project until it became an independent registered charity in April 1996. From 1989 it has been funded by a number of organisations including, Bassetlaw CCG, Lloyds Bank Foundation, Bassetlaw District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council as a Community Resource, Information, Training and Advice Centre for Bassetlaw. In 1996 the charity consisted of 1.2 full time equivalent staff members and 8 volunteers with 1 significant work stream – the Community Car Scheme. It was also an established local resource agency and training centre offering courses on touch typing for example. As the organisation grew, it developed into an organisation serving the whole of Bassetlaw (hence the name change in 2011 when it became a limited company but retaining its charity status). The Bassetlaw Action Centre today has grown into a major service delivery organisation in the district with 25 staff members and over 80 volunteers. It has many distinct areas of work, including a very well used training resource which offers basic skills training and a range of IT courses from beginners through to advanced. The majority of the work streams of the Action Centre exist to promote the independence of older and vulnerable people including support for people with long term conditions, people with housing issues, self-help groups and people with transport needs.

Urbed (Urbanism, Environment and Design) Ltd to close-Urbed Trust unaffected It is with great sadness that we announce that our partner organisation Urbed (Urbanism, Environment and Design) Ltd will close early in 2023. The employee-owned cooperative finds itself with no option, following the completion of several projects and operating in an incredibly difficult post COVID environment, particularly with public sector tendering. Urbed (Urbanism, Environment and Design) Ltd formed in 2006, and grew out of the original Urbed (Urban and Economic Development) Ltd from 1976. It is one of the last surviving members of a group of consultancies that pioneered the process of urban regeneration in the 1970s and 80s. Since that time Urbed have undertaken ground-breaking work on the reuse of industrial heritage, managed workspace, town centres, sustainable urbanism, domestic retrofit, urban design and coding. Their closure will not affect ourselves at the Urbed Trust. We are a separate not for profit company run by Urbed’s 1976 original founding director Dr Nicholas Falk. We will continue our work on smarter urbanisation and sustainable housing in both the UK and India. Who are the URBED Trust? The URBED Trust is a not for profit company with charitable aims set up to promote research into the future of urban areas, and to disseminate best practice. The trust was reconstituted after Nicholas Falk and David Rudlin won the 2014 Wolfson Economics Prize for showing how to build new Garden Cities that are visionary, viable and popular. A group of expert board members are overseeing different projects, in partnership with other public bodies.
