Better Community Development

better community development

Since 1981, BCD has served the disadvantaged of Little Rock’s 12th Street Corridor. BCD, Inc. began as Black Community Developers. It was initially an outreach program of Theressa Hoover Memorial United Methodist Church. In 2010, BCD became Better Community Development. This name change served to reflect the inclusive nature of BCD’s programs. In 1992, Rev. Dr. William H. Robinson, Jr. formed the Fighting Back Initiative. Funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and an alliance with the City of Little Rock made the program possible. In later years, it would evolve into the Neighborhood Support Center. State, federal, and private support along with a half-cent tax were the primary sources of funding. As a result of a partnership with the City and HUD, the Hoover Treatment Center was created. The Center provides outpatient and residential services for people with substance abuse problems. The Center also includes a homeless shelter, an HIV/AIDS ministry, job training, and permanent and supportive housing. Not only do BCD’s programs impact the lives of individuals but extend into the community’s infrastructure. Building affordable housing for low-to-moderate-income families makes a great impact south of 630. The Affordable Housing Program is certified by the Arkansas Development Finance Authority to provide monthly homebuyer-education courses. Participants become eligible for state grants to assist with home-buying costs. Instructors are volunteers from four area banks who assess the curriculum. Today, BCD is expanding its reach and vision to include even more important challenges facing the city. Its latest expansion, the Empowerment Center, houses a state-licensed treatment program and permanent housing for people with special needs. It provides a revitalized facility for career, life skills, and technology training. It also focuses on environmental issues right in the heart of the same neighborhood where BCD was created.

Strong Like A Mutha

strong like a mutha

Strong Like a Mutha was Founded in 2016 by Lyndsey Roberts after the birth of her son. Having previously been a professional dancer and exercised her whole life, Lyndsey found herself in a whole new world with a high risk pregnancy and very little evidence based information on safe and effective training for women in her situation. Ultimately this resulted in the complete halting of exercise which then caused lots of pain and discomfort throughout her pregnancy. Returning to exercise postnatally Lyndsey knew there had to be more information out there and began to feel drawn to helping and supporting women in the fitness industry. And so Strong Like a Mutha was born! Lyndsey and the SLAM community have created a gym environment (The Mutha Ship) that is welcoming, inviting, non-intimidating and allows its members to work as hard as they like. At Strong Like a Mutha we all understand that a traditional gym setting can be intimidating and that is why we have created this sanctuary in the middle of the city just for you ❤️ Picture of Lyndsey Roberts sitting in the Strong Like a Mutha Gym - The Mutha Ship Our Purpose To provide a safe and supportive space where all humans are welcomed and celebrated. To provide education and guidance that allows us to make changes in the fitness industry and the world. To raise the voices of women and those marginalized by society. Our Vision We envision a change in the fitness industry that empowers everyone, not just physically but mentally and emotionally. We want to part of a future where the perception of our health isn’t determined by the size and shape of our body, and where our self worth isn’t fed by diet culture. Our Values We are guided by our core values. Every decision we make, marketing material we create or service we introduce must come from a place of: Integrity, Community, Kindness, Inclusivity, Connection, Empowerment

My work invites meditation upon nature and its relationship with colour, light and movement. As I draw or paint, I gradually unravel the underlying qualities of balance and harmony within my subject matter. What interests me most is observing the formation of line and pattern: from the blades of grasses to a bird’s feather; from the shifting of clouds to the beat of my heart; from the maps of stars in heaven to the trunk of an old oak tree. I continuously strive to reveal beauty and elegance within the natural rhythm of life and look to my art as a place of well-being, empowerment and inner peace. The materials I love to use are water-based pigments, powders, and Japanese black ink. These are natural and organic and are deeply connected to earth and nature. They afford a rich palette of hues and allow for both extreme precision and flow of movement. I am captivated by the way they blend together and create a whole that is more than its' individual parts. Occasionally, I also add hints of gold and silver, as these reflect light differently at each hour of the day, changing the glow of the work from within. Japanese Ink Painting Instructor & Artist, Talia Lehavi - Standing with a brush in front of Notes on Pine collection in Mallorca Studio My work is an attempt to find and enjoy a moment in time. The materials I use embrace that moment, echoing their mark on the paper or canvas, and becoming eternal for a short while. I am keen to explore images that can stand the test of time, that would still be of fascination in years to come, and yet are potent in the here in now. I hope that others understand my work with their hearts and emotions; that they are touched and moved by it, and that it evokes a sense of balance, hope, and joy.

Join my monthly events https://moon-goddess-healing-sanctuary.mn.co/ [https://moon-goddess-healing-sanctuary.mn.co/] JOIN TODAY - PREPARE TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE When you join Moon Goddess Healing Sanctuary today, you’ll get access to our Sacred Ritual Circles. We gather via zoom 4 times a month. You can join the live event at 7pm GMT or watch the replay. We celebrate and raise our vibration with the New Moon and focus on our intentions for moving forward into a more inspired and aligned life with intentional living. During the Full Moon, we work on releasing emotional, physical, and energetic layers from our energy fields. We work in the sacred womb space and with past lives by tapping into the moon’s mystical power. We realign ourselves by letting go of any draining energies as we lift our vibrations. As we ascend, we draw in all that we deserve and aspire to manifest. ONE—NEW MOON MANIFESTING CIRCLE: Fill your energy with Light and raise your vibration. Release any negative energies and allow healing to fill your being. With this newfound brightness, you’ll be able to align with the Universe and attract what’s meant for you. In our group manifestation circles, we harness the combined energy of our community to activate your personal power and manifest your desires. Attending these circles can promote empowerment and a stronger belief in your own potential. TWO—FULL MOON DEEP HEALING CIRCLE: using the energy of the full moon, YOU can cut the energetic cords that are holding you down, ground, and cleanse your energy. We go on a deep journey to heal ancestral wounds, cut karmic ties, break negative/addictive patterns, clear the energy of past partners and experiences that may negatively affect you and your future. Receive help to heal the grief of a lost child or close family member. Heal sexual trauma. Reset your energy so you can keep on healing and shining your light! We will also work with the Council of Light, Angel Healing, The 7 Rays and Violet Flame. I am intuitively guided to use different techniques for deep healing focusing on Family Constellation, Soul Retrieval, Past Life Healing and the Inner Child. THREE—CIRCLE OF DIVINE EMPOWERMENT: Where Goddesses Weave Their Magic: Harness the essence of goddesses to illuminate your path. Discover the art of channelling their power to weave your desires, embrace your inner voice, and forge a profound bond with your celestial goddess energy. We learn how to perceive the energy of the deity we are connecting with so we understand why and how we connect, and how to empower our lives with this connection. You may also learn a mantra or mudra to enhance this connection. Through a guided deep meditation, we activate this energy, allowing you to sense, feel and embrace the goddess or deity’s presence. This will enable you to absorb and understand the energy so you can connect with ease when you want to, drawing upon this power to guide you and tap into for strength and guidance. Following the meditation, you will receive a personalised message of insightful guidance. We will work with Ascended Masters, Kuan Yin, Mother Mary, Moon Goddess Selene, Mary Magdalene, Heka, Lilith, Gaia and Various Goddesses, Arcturian and Star seed connection, Ascended Masters, Dragon and Faery. FOUR—MONTHLY READING & SHARING CIRCLE: a safe space to share experiences and catch up. I’m there if you have questions and then we do some practice with our cards (tarot or oracle) either by reading for others or through receiving a reading. We’ll also mediate and connect for a message from spirit or our guides for insight and healing. ALSO INCLUDED: * WEEKLY RECORDED MEETINGS: receive support and guidance with a psychic reading to help you navigate your week. * GUIDED MEDITATIONS: There is a library of Reiki-infused guided meditations.
