Before I discovered the life-changing magic of mindset work, I had a busy career in finance. But I felt bored and unfulfilled. It was like my life had very little meaning. Every week I would have meeting after meeting with traders and portfolio managers, and it was soul-sucking – just mind-numbingly bland. I felt dead inside. It made me question whether this is all life would ever be. Then I started exploring mindset work, and I realised this was my true calling. I quit my job in finance and started coaching women who felt just like me and who were ready to make changes to their lives. I’ve lived all over the world – half-French and half-Belgian, I was born in Tokyo, and spent my childhood in Dusseldorf, Johannesburg, Vienna and Hamburg. I studied in Boston and then moved to London. Now I live in Brighton, on the south coast of England, with my family. Everywhere I’ve lived, I’ve met women with the same problems. Feeling stuck, struggling with self-doubt, and despairing about making lasting, meaningful change to their lives. After working so hard to change my own mindset and finding success with my business, I’m passionate about helping other female business owners to grow their confidence, discover their inner power and take meaningful action. Helping small and start-up businessesOur Founder Nikki started her business at the age of 23, in her final year of university. She hit upon an unmet demand for clothing and lingerie to fit bigger busted girls. She had no prior textile or business experience, but knew there was a market for the product. With almost no cash, she set out to launch her start-up business but hit multiple challenges along the way – not understanding how to promote her business online, how to generate sales, run online ads or manage her own SEO, and no budget to pay someone for help, she had no choice but to figure it out through a matrix of failed experiments, free online information and training workshops where they were affordable (and not many were!) Eventually, one sale became two, and two became ten, and within a couple of years the business took off – by 2010 Nikki had been awarded the Natwest Everywoman Artemis Business Award and in 2011 appeared on Dragons Den, securing private investment of £250,000 after the show had aired. This enabled her to scale her brand, re-shore production to the UK and eventually culminated in running a factory in Preston with over a dozen machinists, and supplying her brand to the high street. But her frustration remained around the lack of practical help and support for startup business owners. Training courses seldom left her with any usable information to implement – they would talk about the benefits of Facebook marketing, or SEO, or Social Media but never gave enough information to actually go and do it yourself.

My name is Paula Ashton and in 2012 I started Ashton People Solutions, a company which provides HR support, advice and consultancy to small to medium sized businesses across the UK. I have worked in HR for over 20 years in corporate organisations such as Barclays, Royal Bank of Scotland, Dixons Group and the automotive sector. I developed Ashton People Solutions as a result of friends and family business-owners requesting my help with HR issues. I soon realised that there was demand for ad-hoc HR support for smaller businesses, either on-site or remotely. I have extensive experience of dealing with employment law advice, HR policy advice – including disciplinary and grievance-, maternity and absence management. I have managed large-scale recruitment and selection campaigns and can offer this service along with training and development programmes. In addition to this, I am also a Qualified Trainer, Level A Psychometric Assessor and Level B Personality Profiling Assessor. Claire and Brigid are HR Assistants and joined me in April 2021. Claire holds a Level 5 CIPD HR Management qualification and a 1st class honours degree in Law & Business Management. Claire has 15 years of valuable HR experience from her background which includes the public and private sector and education. Brigid also holds a Level 5 CIPD HR Management qualification and is an Associate CIPD member. Brigid has eight years worth of HR experience in the private and charity sector, working at The Trafford Centre and Chester Zoo.
