The Karachi Aero Club (G) Limited was established on the 28th of July 1928 and is the subcontinent’s first flying institution. It was formed by an association of person’s whose common goal was to instruct the members of the club and others in the art of flying and the science of aeronautics. Ever since it’s inception it has worked ceaselessly towards the promotion of all branches of aviation and has established itself as a center of information and advice on all matters pertaining to aeronautics. Until the 1960’s the Karachi Aero Club had been operating from a purpose-built site in what is now known as Gulshan-e-Iqbal, with it’s own runway and hangar facilities. In addition to recreational flying activities and charter services the club provided other sporting facilities such as a golf course, horse riding school and skeet shooting range. It was regarded as one of the most prestigious institutions in the country as evidenced by its members which comprised of almost all the elite families in Pakistan, senior government functionaries, foreign attaches and senior executives of multinational companies. Many of these members owned their own aircraft which were maintained and serviced by the club. In the 1960’s the club was obliged to surrender its land for a greater national cause and moved its flight operations to the BOAC steel hangar and apron facilities at Karachi Airport. Hangar No. 301 was appointed to the Karachi Aero Club as an Engineering facility, and is still our base of operations till this day. The clubhouse is still owned and maintained at it’s original site in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and is used as a recreational facility by members.

I formalized my threadiness with a three year apprenticeship at The Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace, receiving the best training in all aspects of hand embroidery. From goldwork to bothsides alike with canvas work, stumpwork, beadwork, jacobean and many other wonderful techniques thrown in for good measure. Upon completing my apprenticeship I went to work for Jimmy Choo couture and the Jim Henson Company. Creating Awareness Plastic in our oceans is a huge environmental and health problem. Reducing plastic from our everyday lives will help reduce the need for and cost of recycling. This is important because recycling streams are not correctly managed, and many are dysfunctional. We also need to correctly dispose of our plastic and other unwanted items, choosing to reuse, repurpose or give it away. Keeping plastic out of our oceans (and our food chain) is a big issue which is why I organise beach and underwater clean ups wherever and whenever I can. I also enjoy visiting schools to give presentations that include short videos about marine life, and coral reefs. Plus, we discuss the different types of plastic, how it is affecting the environment and how we can all try to ‘Say No To Plastic’. Swim Academy for Babies is a specialist baby swimming school that started in Cornwall more than 10 years ago, and is now available in Somerset. We are proud to be entirely run by mothers, providing a unique experience for families with babies and small children. We run tailored baby swimming classes for babies from newborn to 4 years old, we hope to soon be able to resume offering swimming development courses and junior squads for ages 5 to 10 years old. We create a natural, loving and fun environment where you can enjoy special time with your baby, deepening your special bond whilst learning how to help your baby enjoy the water. We teach babies water awareness and safety, allowing them to explore and discover what their bodies are capable of in a variety of structured situations. All our classes are uniquely planned taking into account the ability of each individual baby and child. The earlier babies are introduced to water the sooner they can be taught vital water safety skills as well as increasing their strength and stamina. We also include fun excercises to help mothers recover their pre-pregnancy body weight. We use internationally proven ‘in water’ and ‘underwater’ techniques to improve babies lung capacityand function as well as boosting babies self-confidence and general heath and fitness levels. Most babies also develop better eating and sleeping patterns, and many parents plan sleep times around swimming classes! Tumble Tots is a physical play programme. We offer classes where children can develop their physical skills of balance, agility, climbing and co-ordination, whilst at the same time stimulating their imagination, and developing their language and social skills. Our sessions are structured around the different ages and stages of a child's development, from 6 months to school age. Each week we combine fun, excitement and challenge in a safe and caring environment, with our unique equipment and team of specially trained coaches. Children have an enormous amount of natural energy and with proper help and guidance it can be channelled in the right direction. We believe that if we can start children on a healthy way of life early on then it will become a habit for the rest of their lives. Exercise should be about having fun and that’s exactly what Tumble Tots provides! My name is Helen Otto and I live in High Wycombe with my husband, twin 8-year-old daughters and our 4 year old son. I took over running Tumble Tots in Marlow, Maidenhead and Bourne End in June 2017. The girls had been going to Tumble Tots in Marlow for a couple of years and loved the classes. I’d been a Tumble Tot as a child, and had also been a competitive swimmer right up until my late teenage years, so doing something in sport really appealed to me. And I love working with kids. Seeing children grow in confidence and ability week after week is so rewarding. I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by a fab team of coaches who work their socks off to make our classes fun and challenging for our tots. Our Class Leaders are Jade, Jackie, Katie and myself. And our Coaches are Sarah, Lisa and Liz.

Barnardo’s believes in early intervention, providing support for children and young people before they face more serious mental health issues.
