With a rise in mental ill-health, there is an ever increasing need for all individuals to understand how to spot signs of distress, effectively respond, and support a person in need. Mental Health Learning was founded in 2018 as a consultancy and training provider to support members of the community and workplaces to do just this. Our mission is to ensure that skills continue to grow amongst those who are most likely to see the signs of mental ill-health, self-harm, and thoughts of suicide. Our motivation is that our trainees can recognise these signs, then intervene to reduce harm in your community or workplace. We exist not to tick a box, but to make a difference; to teach real-life skills. We work with you and your team to understand your needs and provide the training that is most suitable for you. If it’s not one of our regular courses, we will develop a bespoke course specifically for you. All our training is evidence based, and a number of our courses are accredited. We work with places of education, corporate companies such as Law firms and Accountancy firms, Health Care Professionals, Housing Associations, and more, as well as general members of the public. The majority of our training is provided in-house – when we come to you, it typically makes the practicalities easier. We can also arrange training at a local venue on your behalf. Willow and Wire Sculptor Victoria or Vik as she likes to be called hails from South Somerset; home of ancient kingdoms, fables and roads less travelled, these origins feed into her work, representing elements of the natural world and those who celebrate it. Vik began her creative journey as a theatre designer and maker, using a willow framework for carnivalesque costumes, from here she developed her practice to bring her dynamic sketches to life, creating forms from willow and wire that encapsulate her love of texture and mass. Now her Coach House Studio in the heart of Mid Devon, is her base where she works to commission on a range of projects for large and small gardens, parklands, orchards and public spaces; working with clients to create pieces that sit harmoniously in their environment. Clients include designers, private collectors, companies, charities, councils and housing groups in addition she has created large scale sculptures for The Woodland Trust, The RHS Chelsea Flower Show and Torre Abbey.

THEN Born out of a great social awakening surrounding anti-Black racism and structural oppression, BLACK MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS (a.k.a. BLACK MH MATTERS CANADA INC.) was established in 2020 by social workers/psychotherapists, Yemi Faderin and Susan Bascillo. Individuals across the Greater Toronto Area immediately acted and donated hundreds of thousands to support low-cost therapy for Black Canadians who could otherwise not afford it. NOW Donations helped us create programs that end stigma surrounding Black mental health, provide more low-cost therapy for those Black Canadians most in need of healing due to racial trauma, and conduct workshops that educate broader communities on the realities of anti-Black racism. NEXT We continue to be inspired. As an official non-profit, we will - work to improve outcomes for Black Canadians experiencing trauma from institutionalized violence, systemic racism and police brutality. - equip Black clients, organizations and broader communities with the tools to identify the consequences of systemic racism and promote safer and more compassionate spaces. - address a range of social barriers (e.g. Education-level, under-employment, housing insecurity etc.) which may lead to poorer mental health outcomes and negatively impact one’s well-being.
