The Old Bakehouse

Cirencester

I’ve been up & running now for nearly 2 years, so I thought I’d add an update to my ‘About Me’ page! When I envisioned how The Old Bakehouse Cookery School would develop, I thought I’d be inundated with youngsters; helping them start out on the road to independence as I saw such a gap in the market. This still continues to be my driving force and I love watching the ‘penny drop’ when someone with no knowledge learns the basics & they then believe they can put a meal together. That still gives me enormous pleasure, however, the side to the business which has really taken off is the Group Bookings and I’m LOVING it!! Watching friends laughing together during a Hen party or ‘Special’ birthday party or seeing family (mums, dads, children, brothers or sisters) working together has been such a privilege. On the home front, it has been quite a rocky road through 2020 dealing with Covid-19 & all the lockdown restrictions we all endured. My son graduated in May (sadly without the ceremony) and he has now left home & is working in Cheltenham. My daughter is currently finishing her 2nd year at University which hasn’t been the experience she envisaged but she’s made the most of it. They have both taken on the skills of independent living & I couldn’t be more proud of their achievements. So, if you have a reason to gather a group together & you fancy doing something creative with them, give me a call & I can arrange a great day out for you. Or if you’re looking to get the basics under your belt as you move to a more independent phase of life, let me help you.

London

The New School is a centre of excellence for training and research in existential psychotherapy, counselling psychology, pastoral care, autism, diversity and coaching. It has attracted many experienced and creative teachers and trainers as well as numerous research supervisors with a record of original research publications in the field. It was founded and established by Prof. Emmy van Deurzen, an international authority on existential therapy, psychologist, philosopher and author of many seminal texts in the field, together with Prof. Digby Tantam, an eminent psychotherapist, philosopher, researcher and influential author in the field of autism. Emmy previously founded the School of Psychotherapy at Regent’s College as well as the Society for Existential Analysis and ensured that the New School courses would be deeply rooted in the tradition of continental philosophy. NSPC offers joint psychotherapy and counselling psychology doctoral programmes with Middlesex University with the option of post-graduate diploma and masters exits. It also offers a masters’ course in existential coaching, two online MSc programmes, a foundation course, short courses, one day workshops and numerous introductory courses. It has a unique online programme, the septimus courses, which are integrated with the doctoral programme, or can be taken as stand-alone modules. It is a unique and dynamic institution, which affords its students the opportunity to pursue their personal and professional interests and establish their chosen careers through theoretical and skills training, alongside supported placements and research. NSPC students tend to be mature, self-reflective, highly motivated and committed individuals who come from many different cultures and backgrounds and have a strong capacity for independent study and learning. We have been fortunate to have a dedicated team of existential therapists, theoreticians, and administrative staff who have made it what it is today.

ello, I’m Nina Squire and I’m an artist and art tutor. In normal times I have a travelling studio – an easel, a set of soft pastels and a flask of coffee and I’m happy! When I can, I love to take part in shows and events where I enjoy the chance to meet and chat to people whilst I draw. However, since March 2020, and with my regular events and shows canceled, like many others I’ve starting teaching online. Whilst I trained as a professional artist and illustrator at Falmouth University over 25 years ago, I’m mainly self taught. Most of my work is done in soft pastels, and my passion for the countryside and animals has brought me a long line of horse and dog commissions in this medium. My works can be seen in many homes and offices, not only locally in Dorset, the South West and London but also as far away as the USA and Japan. My loyal customers have been the inspiration for developing several strands to my work. Many of my clients have returned over the years, drawing their first dog, their first home, their first pony or their family portraits as the years pass, or capturing places that are special to them, perhaps their favourite holiday views and their treasured memories. I’m perhaps best known for portraits of people’s pets but, whatever the subject, for me it’s all about capturing a personality, or an essence, and creating something that looks real. With everything I paint I want the viewer to feel they can walk in to the picture – or perhaps my subject might be just about to jump out into the real world!

Pawsitive Dog Behaviour Consultancy

Nottingham

I started my journey with rescue dogs in 2006 at Nottingham Trent University, where I did two degrees with canine-specific modules focused on behaviour. I brought my first rescue dog home in 2007, Scrappy the Jack Russell had an entire fleet of behavioural problems, severe separation anxiety, a lack of impulse control, no bite inhibition, he was extremely reactive and terrified of other dogs, and it took many years to help him, and initially, I did everything wrong, I made massive mistakes! My approach to dog training and behaviour modification has completely changed from the early days. Balanced dog training methods appeared to help, and I was desperate to fix my dog. I got it wrong, my dog suffered as a consequence. I do bad, I feel bad, and things got worse before they got better because of this. What I should have been doing is helping my dog choose a more desirable behaviour in a kind, compassionate force-free way. My dog forgave me and fortunately I become an expert in reactivity and aggression in terriers, hounds, UK and imported rescues, but those mistakes still haunt me. I have spent over 12 years dedicating my life to training and working with severely reactive and aggressive rescue dogs, all while promoting no-pain, no-fear and no-force dog training. I do good, I feel good. Training should not make you or your dog feel bad, it should be uplifting, enjoyable and both of you should be working as a team. I believe in inclusivity, whatever your background my only interest is helping you help your dog. This is my story. In loving memory of Scrappy, to whom I will always owe everything!

The Cello Teacher - Lessons For All

Cradley Heath

As a freelance 'cello teacher I have many years of teaching experience from teaching in both the state and private sector. I have also work for Music Services, involving individual and group tuition, at junior and senior levels.  I try and use many of the pedagogical ideas of the ‘Kodaly System’, especially when teaching beginners, with its emphasis on singing,  musical games, rhythm and with the introduction of music-reading, fluency in the musical alphabet. Other areas of my work in education have always included close involvement in the production of lecture-recitals and demonstration workshops, mostly with the Astaria String Quartet, the Foundation for Music in Hospitals or in the past, Live Music Now! I have presented workshops and lecture-recitals for Arts Alive, Birmingham University, the City of Edinburgh Music School and the Education Department at Symphony Hall Birmingham, often to National Curriculum and National Lottery specifications. During the summer months, I have been a regular tutor on the 'Fantasia Music School' music course for many years. I have also researched authentic performance-practice and contemporary (classical) music, through both commissions and subsequent performances. This has led to intensive collaboration with eminent composers as well as time spent coaching student composers, giving me valuable insight into the creative process of compositions and the interpretive and technical difficulties for the performer. My own personal interest and inspiration has always been teaching, performing and coaching chamber music, specifically the genre of string quartets. As an experienced chamber musician, I have performed and coached the main works for string quartet, the chamber music for 'cello with flute, clarinet and piano as well as the solo repertoire for violoncello. I am also familiar with the orchestral repertoire, opera and theatre music, through extensive work as a freelance player. Please request my CV for my professional referees.
