The authors she represents include Jaspreet Kaur, Salma El-Wardany, Rachel Thompson, Annie Lord, Angelica Malin and Phil Ellis. Their books range from the heart-breaking and profound to the inspirational, funny and wise, with almost everything in between. She’s keen to find non-fiction and fiction writers who speak to a millennial and younger audience, be that a journalist who is looking to expand an idea, a screenwriter who is looking to try their hand at fiction or perhaps an activist with a social media platform.  She’s actively looking for writers who are under-represented in the publishing world, through non-traditional channels, as well as her submissions, and is interested in environmental and social issues. For fiction, she always loves comforting, funny and warm reads, as well as gripping page-turners. She’d love to see any of the above but her favourite thing is to escape with a story she can’t put down. If you think your book fits with that, then do send it to her.  In fiction, books that have really left Florence wanting one more chapter include Marian Keyes’s character, Rachel, from Rachel’s Holiday that left Florence with a compassion for addiction that only the most skilled of writers can conjure. Florence finds Catherine Newman to be a genuis for making hospice care so funny in We All Want Impossible Things. Smart page turners such as Anatomy of a Scandal, Such a Fun Age and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow wowed Florence with clever, gripping prose and complicated, flawed characters she hadn't met before. She also loves older classics like the Cazalet Chronicles and Georgette Heyer’s Regency novels – comforting, funny and warm reads will always her cup of tea. All sessions are recorded and students expected to watch any filming done of themselves each evening. Also, during the course, to self-film a monologue, and work on a scene to self tape and submit to Mel at conclusion of the course. Day 1 -Monday | Time (UK) 10:30am – 1.00pm & 2:30pm – 5.15pm You will be introduced to the course, discuss screen acting, self-taping and talk about the actors’ toolbox. Mel will then invite you to each share a real-life story and do your given monologue. Here you will observe how specific you are, and how much muscle memory you still have in your body from your real experiences. You will explore games and techniques that allow you to find the same life and truth when you are using learned lines. Homework: Students to watch their work on playback. Day 2 -Tuesday | Time (UK) 10:30am – 1.00pm & 2:30pm – 5.15pm On day two you will continue on your real life stories and monologues. Continuing work on real stories/ monologues. Each actor will get individual time within the group. (all present can see but participant is filmed as solo performance to watch later.) Homework: Students to watch their work on playback. Scenes sent after class; partners chosen – these to be learned and self-taped after the course. She is actively building a list that spans middle grade and YA fiction across all genres, commercial adult fiction, and romance and fantasy for all ages.  Alice is on the hunt for stories that are smart, commercial and bold, with a clear international appeal. She is looking for books with fresh and exciting concepts, whose voices can cross borders and speak out about important topics in an accessible and authentic manner. She is passionate about showcasing diverse and underrepresented voices in a joyful and uplifting way.  This year, she’d really love to find something special in the YA space. She’s open to all genres and is particularly interested in character-driven stories with lively storytelling, a strong emotional core, and attention-grabbing premises. She’s a fan of high-concept, speculative, historical and contemporary romance, heists, dystopias, and social thrillers with a twist.  In middle grade, Alice is drawn to sweeping adventures, big-concept ideas, and stories with a speculative or magical feel. She appreciates middle grade novels that do not talk down to the reader but remain fast-paced and fun. Some of her favourite authors include Kiran Millwood Hargrave, Michelle Harrison, Elle McNicoll, Jordan Lees and Jack Meggitt-Phillips. On the adult side, Alice is looking for fantasy that combines strong commercial appeal with a unique concept.
