Stronger together . . . every child in a great school Welcome to Westcountry Schools Trust (WeST); a tight-knit family of schools based around natural geographical proximity in the South West. Initially formed as a small multi academy trust of only two schools in 2011, the Trust has experienced several iterations of growth and change. In essence, WeST as we recognise it today, was launched in September 2017 with the ambition of delivering exceptional education for 2-19 years olds with the additional ability to provide both undergraduate and postgraduate study through The Learning Institute (TLI). Whilst school trusts are now common place across the educational landscape, WeST significantly differs from many by not only having a Teaching School but through its Higher Education provision via TLI. The WeST family now extends to 27 schools of which 8 are secondary and 19 primary. All 19 primary schools naturally transition children into a WeST secondary school, an area of work we wish to further strengthen as our work matures. WeST holds a firm belief in giving each child every opportunity to learn and succeed in all that they do. Whilst we are a family of schools who share common values and beliefs, all our schools are unique and hold their own identity. We believe that by working collectively, sharing what works well and jointly developing best practice, we are stronger together and can provide the very best education for our children in our geographical area. Plymouth Dance connects, creates and celebrates dance in the city. Our mission is to engage people and communities within Plymouth with the transformational power of dance and to connect, create and celebrate dance in Plymouth by delivering citywide partnership projects that use dance as a vehicle for individual, cultural, organisational and social change. Why the community needs us We create and deliver the most exciting, innovative and accessible dance offer for our community. So many people don't have access to the transformational benefits of dance as part of their everyday life: such as the freedom to create; the opportunity to improve mental, physical and emotional health and well-being, whilst decreasing social isolation and exclusion. We know that it's vital that more people and communities have opportunities to watch, be part of and perform dance. Our impact on the community A total of 23,445 people have participated in Plymouth Dance workshops and events since 2009. 109 young people have volunteered for Plymouth Dance since the volunteering scheme began in 2014, logging 2,207 volunteering hours in total. Tea Dances with a Twist! is an intergenerational and inclusive social dance event that has attracted people aged 3.5 weeks to 104 years old. A total of 7,815 people have participated in our TDT events and TDT branch projects since 2016. Plymouth Dance has engaged 1,438 local, national and international artists and practitioners since 2009. Audiences for Plymouth Dance projects have ranged from 300 to 55,000. Over 13 years, Plymouth Dance has invested in excess of £1.27m into the city; 26% through trusts and charities, 50% through Arts Council England and 24% through earned income and commissions. Plymouth Dance is a member of the Plymouth Social Enterprise Network.

Sir John Dunford During his 50-year career in education, John Dunford has held a wide range of roles. These were outlined in the introduction to his book, ‘The School Leadership Journey’, published in November 2016 by John Catt. http://www.johncattbookshop.com/the-school-leadership-journey John was general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders (formerly the Secondary Heads Association) from 1998 to 2010. Prior to that, he was a member of the leadership team of three secondary schools in the north-east of England from 1974 to 1998, including 16 years as head of Durham Johnston Comprehensive School, an 11-18 school with 1500 pupils. John was a member of the Councils of Durham and Nottingham Universities for 11 and 6 years respectively and was a member of the Local Government Association’s Commission on the Organisation of the School Year. He was chair of Whole Education from 2010 to 2019, the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors from 2011 to 2014 and of the charity Step Together Volunteering from 2010 to 2018. He served on the board of trustees of Teach First and the advisory board of Future Leaders from the inception of those organisations and was a member of the governing council of the National College for School Leadership. John was the government’s National Pupil Premium Champion from 2013 to 2015, an independent role in which he worked with schools, trusts, teaching schools and local authorities on the effective use of the pupil premium to raise the educational achievement of disadvantaged pupils, reporting back to the Department for Education on issues raised by school leaders and teachers. John is a trustee of the Learn Academies Trust in south Leicestershire.

We host national and international artists from all cultures and career stages. We create a supportive and stimulating context in which new work and ideas can be developed, tested and shared. The bespoke and award-winning spaces we provide for residents and visitors to live, meet and work in, are located on an outstanding site overlooking Loch Long and the Firth of Clyde, just one hour from Glasgow, on Scotland’s west coast. Founded in 1999 by Peter and Eileen Jacobs, Cove Park is a charity funded by Creative Scotland, by trusts and foundations and by the generosity of individuals. Since 2000, Cove Park has hosted over 1,500 artists and our former residents include Margaret Atwood, Ann Carson, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Mariana Castillo Deball, Alasdair Gray, Beca Lipscombe, Tom Morris, Ciara Phillips, Elizabeth Price, Charlotte Prodger, Simon Starling, Christos Tsiolkas, Jan Verwoert and Louise Welsh. OIBC was launched in 1992 in order to improve health and the quality of life across the globe by promoting access to learning and research. Its maxim at that time was cooperation: cooperation between developed and developing countries; cooperation between academic and industrial institutions; cooperation between scientists, medical doctors and the public. Since then, other organisations have stepped in to promote one of our original aspirations, namely better cooperation between universities and industrial institutions. But the other aspirations remain, and over the last decade we have focussed particularly on youngsters in so far as better communication between scientists, medical doctors and the public is concerned. So now, our current strategy may be summarised as follows. VISION OIBC’s vision is of a world in which wider access to scientific learning brings better health and quality of life. CLOD ENSEMBLE create provocative, finely crafted performance and participation projects driven by movement and music. For over 25 years, director Suzy Willson and composer Paul Clark have developed a highly original performance language, in collaboration with dancers, actors, musicians, medics, architects and orchestras. Our core team work from our studios in the Design District on Greenwich Peninsula, and we work with a wide range of freelance artists on each project. Each production has a unique visual identity and distinctive musical score. Highlights include Silver Swan, featuring a choir of seven unaccompanied singers; Under Glass, where performers are contained within glass cases, from a jam jar to a test tube; An Anatomie in Four Quarters in which the audience cut a path through the auditorium of a large theatre and Red Ladies, a chorus of identically dressed women who transform, celebrate and interrupt the familiar streets of a city. Our work is presented in London, across the UK and internationally in theatres, dance houses, galleries and public spaces including Sadler’s Wells, Tate Modern, The Lowry, Wales Millennium Centre, Serralves Museum Porto and Public Theater New York. Our approach to performance making embraces difference and ambiguity, allowing us to work with complex ideas in complex systems. Each of our projects upholds movement, music and visual languages as vital ways of knowing, learning, and communicating. We offer a wide-reaching programme of education and participation projects in schools, higher education institutions and NHS Trusts. These different areas of our work overlap, creating fertile ground for dialogue, debate and collaboration. We offer a rich programme of Talent Development, developing the next generation of music, dance and interdisciplinary artists. Through learning programmes we inspire young people through music and movement in formal education settings and beyond. Performing Medicine is our award-winning, sector-leading initiative, primarily focused on the education and wellbeing of healthcare workers – developing their skills through creative practice so they can build healthier, respectful, caring, creative communities.

Library of Things and Repair Cafes. We are currently (as of Spring 2021) introducing HOW TO Reduce your Carbon Footprint workshops within the Share and Repair Shop and as a pilot project within primary schools. Another strand of ‘sharing’ is our Library of Things. We started this at the Weston Hub in November 2018 and changed our official name to Share & Repair in line with our expanded vision. We become a charity: In April 2020, Share and Repair gained charitable status as a CIO (charitable incorporated organisation) no 1189015. This is a major milestone for us and means we are accountable and can now raise funds through grant making trusts and from Gift Aid. We opened our first pop-up shop: In June 2020 we hit another major milestone when we opened the doors to the Share and Repair Shop in the centre of Bath. Our first location on Broad Street had an incredible response, raising awareness of sharing and repairing in Bath. In August 2021 we moved to another location at 3 York Buildings, George Street (BA1 2EB), which is now the new home for the Bath Library of Things and a place where we run even more repair sessions. HomeKIT launches: In Spring 2021 we officially launch HomeKIT. This is a new project that will see us taking donations of good-quality but unwanted kettles, irons and toasters and sharing these ‘home kits’ with partner charities who will distribute them to low-income households. If items need repairing, we certainly have the skills and means to do so. We’re really excited about expanding our work in this way and working with other organisations.

Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy is a larger-than-average mixed secondary school in the town of Birtley. The school role is usually around 1450 students, including around 200 in the sixth form. The school occupies a large site, elevated above the east side of the town. Birtley is situated in the borough of Gateshead, and is between Gateshead and Chester-le-Street. Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy is a stand-alone academy, with no affiliation to other schools or academy trusts. Secondary schools in Gateshead work closely together, with one another, with their cluster of primary schools and with the local authority. The school was founded in 1970 as an amalgamation of three previous secondary schools. The present school building was opened in September 2007, built as part of the government’s Private Finance Initiative. The building was constructed by Sir Robert McAlpine and is very well maintained. It provides good-sized classrooms and excellent facilities for learning. Andrew Fowler has been the Principal since June 2019. Previous principals were Mark Lovatt and, before him, David Grigg. The principal is assisted by a deputy principal and a small number of assistant principals. Departments are led by subject leaders, assisted in the larger subjects by deputy and assistant subject leaders. The school is named after Jack Lawson, who was an influential local trade union leader and Labour politician. Jack Lawson became a Member of Parliament, representing a constituency in County Durham. He was a minister in the MacDonald and Attlee governments. When Jack Lawson was given a life peerage in 1950, he took the title Baron Lawson of Beamish. The school’s vision and values are inspired by Jack Lawson’s dedication to public service and education. The school still enjoys strong links with local industry and politics.

Health & Social Care - By implementing our care sector-specific moving and handling training programme we reduced our customer's level of absenteeism and reported manual handling incidents by 38% in one year Special Education – We have developed bespoke training solutions for this sector and have on average saved schools around £700 a day in training costs. Our team and history: A successful business, established in 1994 by Paul Meek a former Operations Director of an ambulance service. Throughout Paul's career, he was exposed daily to the consequences of poorly managed risks, and this is what spurred Paul to establish Solutions Training, he wanted to bridge the visible but avoidable gaps in risk management and in particular health & safety education and the development of the equipment used to aid safer transportation of people.
