The HSA is an independent registered charity, founded in 1911. It is the only UK charity concerned exclusively in the promotion of the humane treatment of all food animals worldwide in markets, during transport, at slaughter, and killing for welfare reasons and disease control. Growing numbers of people are interested and concerned about the welfare of the animals that provide them with food and the HSA has gained an international reputation for providing practical, science-based solutions to improve food animal welfare. The objectives of the HSA are: The promotion of humane methods of slaughter; The introduction of reforms in livestock markets (including transport facilities) where needed to prevent the suffering of animals. The HSA works to achieve these through providing: Technical information and advice on all aspects of animal handling, transport and slaughter. Training and education in humane methods of handling and slaughter of livestock for farmers, vets, abattoir staff and students. Technical and educational publications in a range of formats. Independent advice to governments, animal welfare organisations and the food industry worldwide. Visits to farm animal handling and slaughtering facilities, recommending and advising on improvements where necessary. Funding and support for essential research and other projects aimed at improving animal welfare during transport, in markets and at slaughter. Assistance with development and application of scientific advances into the working practices of the meat industry. The HSA's work has resulted in many significant improvements for food animals around the world and many of the reforms it has promoted in transport, markets and slaughter are now taken for granted. Significant improvements continue to be achieved through working constructively alongside agricultural, meat industry, veterinary and other welfare and professional organisations. As a teenage gymnast, my weight was constantly being monitored by well-intentioned coaches and I started to develop a very unhealthy relationship with food; periods of eating very little, followed by uncontrolled binge eating. It took nearly a decade for me to completely heal my relationship with food. This long and arduous struggle is what inspired me to study clinical nutrition at Cornell University. As a dietician in a hospital setting 30+ years ago, I cared for many very sick patients who were often unwittingly sabotaging their health with their lifestyle choices. Now, thankfully, we know the monumental impact of nutrition on the prevention and reversal of chronic disease, but at the time, medical nutrition therapy was not considered an evidenced based science. lt was terribly frustrating to witness the patient disconnect with regard to their own lifestyle choices and their health. Consequently, I left the field and returned to school to study pharmacy. During my 20 years of hospital pharmacy practice, I have observed an incredible rise in the rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer, and I was again feeling frustrated and dissatisfied. I really wanted and needed to put health into my practice as a healthcare professional! My final wake-up call came a couple of years ago, when two of my colleagues (very close to my age) tragically died of cancer. They were only 58 and 62. It really forced me to look at my life and ask the questions-- What really matters to me and what do I want my life to stand for? During this same period, I completed a pharmacy continuing education module in health coaching, and I knew I had found the path to fulfill my potential as a true health advocate. I then applied to one of the best programs in the country, and completed my certification in Integrative Health Coaching at Duke Integrative Medicine.

Founded in 2005, GymFun Gymnastics Club began as a Newtownabbey based Gymnastics Club specialising in recreational gymnastics. We work in partnership with Ulster University and are based at the Jordanstown Campus. We provide fun-filled classes, training, participation and performance opportunities for boys, girls, teenagers and young adults of all abilities. The name GymFun reflects our approach to the sport of gymnastics. Our motto is ‘Serious Smiles' which captures the spirit of all of our activities. We focus on developing children's fundamental movement skills and confidence through a positive and FUN environment. We believe that all children can benefit from postitive gymnastics experiences and that this can help them develop the physical literacy needed for an active life. We fully subscribe to the belief that gymnastics is to sport and physical activity as the alphabet is to reading. We therefore emphasise the mastery of gymnastics skills rather than competitive success. It is our belief that all children, regardless of ability, should be provided with an enjoyable, high quality, recreational gymnastics experiences to enable them to achieve their potential. We strive to ensure our classes are run to the highest standards and we are constantly evolving our programme. Our Membership GymFun Jordanstown is one of the largest recreational gymnastics club in the Newtownabbey. In our Jordantown classes we have over 450 GymFunners training with us every week! Our members include primary and post primary boys and girls of all abilities. Most members attend once a week for a one hour class. Some members train up to 2.5 hours per week. Gymnasts progress, at their own pace, through 4 levels (Enjoy - Learn, Perform, Master) of the GymFun programme . I have spent over 15 years exploring, trying and testing many personal development principles whilst on the world stage of elite sport to help me create and instil high quality habits and thought patterns. This helped me to deal with the pressure of high level performance, to dare to dream bigger and to set and reach high quality goals. I was not a ‘natural’ at my sport but coaching took me to the top 20 in the world. You may think sports coaching is different but its all about personal transformation on the inside and out. I competed in the very demanding discipline of women's singles before finishing my sports career at the age of 35. Other highlights of my career were becoming Englands number 1 ladies singles player, 5x National Champion and achieving commonwealth and European medals. I am a driven, optimistic and highly motivated person. I strive for excellence and aim to always push my boundaries and reach beyond my comfort zone. I can be serious and I can be fun loving. My current hobbies are yoga and salsa dancing. Whilst being immersed in the 'masculine' world of high performance I like to maintain the femininity in me too. The art of balancing these two sides is what brings out my best self.

Following requests from young people for a safe meeting place in Monmomouth local residents came together with young people to meet that need. The group became known as Monmouth Youth Project. In 2001 the Attik youth centre was opened (by the Bus Station) providing Monmouth’s young people with a safe place to socialise which is supported by professional youth workers. Young people were actively involved in the design of the Attik and the appointment of staff. In 2011 the Attik relocated to the Library Annex, next to the Library on Whitecross Street. At the Attik, young people are able to access a range of facilities, activities, trips, workshops and on site services including specialist youth workers, counselling and a young people’s health clinic. OPEN TO ALL YOUNG PEOPLE The Attik is open to all young people aged 11 – 25 years though it is mainly used by those aged 11 – 16. Those aged 16 and above tend to drop in for specific services. The Attik is free to use. Staffing – Youth workers are employed by Monmouthshire County Council’s Youth Services. Staff are qualified to National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Youth and Community Work or working towards this qualification. All staff and volunteers with access to young people have been cleared by the Data Baring Scheme (Criminal Record Bureau).
