Bishop Milner Catholic College

Dudley

The Latin motto of our college is Pro Petri Fide which means For the Love of Peter. Jesus made Saint Peter the leader of the Apostles and it was on Saint Peter’s faith that Jesus said he would build his Church, Bishop Milner Catholic College is part of this Church and our faith is indeed the faith of Peter. Therefore, our college is committed to offering Christian love and care to each person within it irrespective of their faith background. As such, everyone is valued as a gift from God and treated with utmost respect. Our History Up to 1960 there was no secondary school in Dudley for Roman Catholic children. At the end of 1956 approval was given to build a three storey Roman Catholic secondary school for 400 students. Construction of Bishop Milner Catholic School began September 1957. The build cost of this new school was estimated at around £191,000, it was to include a gymnasium, science and art rooms, a library and a large assembly hall. As the school buildings neared completion, it was decided that the school would be named after Bishop John Milner, the vicar Apostolic of the Midlands. The official opening took place on 21st September 1960 and was conducted by the Most Rev. Francis Grimshaw, Archbishop of Birmingham. There have been many changes to the original building over the years. In 1963 a three floor extension was added to the main building along with a new dining hall. In September 1981 a “Secretary’s” block was also opened. In September 1994 a new large two storey building was built, which included drama and dance studios. In 2003 construction was well underway of what was to become the Bishop Milner Catholic College of today , with multiple ICT suites, Learning Resource Centre, study areas and many new class rooms to replace the 1960s buildings.

Burton on Trent

A global Lean consultancy and training organisation with offices in Australia and the UK, servicing forward-thinking clients throughout Europe, North America and Australasia. Complete Lean Solutions was established in 2004 by Richard Pounder and Andy Kelsall. Between them they had over 22 years experience of working for Toyota in the UK and Europe. Initially offering straightforward Lean specialist services in Australia, it quickly became apparent that there was a market for structured Lean training. CLS-developed training programs have been created around real business need as opposed to simply ‘ticking the right boxes’ to obtain certification. With more diverse clients came the need for more diverse approaches. From banking through to telcos, pharma, food and healthcare, each project offers fresh challenges. The one thing that remains the same, however, is the Lean mindset. From some of the largest companies in the world through to business with only six employees, our approach is always the same: engage the people, listen to what they have to say and coach them through to success. In 2008, CLS commenced operations in the UK, quickly becoming established as a respected and successful Lean consultancy within manufacturing operations in the Midlands. Since then, CLS have become a nationally accredited training provider for NVQ’s in the UK, and have continually delivered successful Profit Improvement Projects (PIPs) in the UK, Europe, North America and Canada. In 2012 Andrew Lunn, General Manager of operations in UK, was invited to join the committee for Birmingham Best Practice in Construction (BBPC) and was responsible for identifying ‘transferable skills.’ Using our extensive knowledge in automotive and manufacturing, CLS developed training and materials that can be readily utilised within the construction industry.

This has been our story for more than a century, and the challenge remains great. More than 14,000 people are killed in accidents across the UK each year with thousands more suffering injuries, many of which are life-changing. Yet, accidents don’t have to happen. Smiling happy young baby in his white cot We’re proud to be at the heart of accident prevention in the UK and around the world, working to stop the needless loss and devastation that accidents cause to individuals, families, communities, businesses and society as a whole. The only UK charity to work across occupational health and safety, and road, home, leisure and education safety, we promote the exchange of life-enhancing skills and knowledge by: Researching the evidence base for accident prevention, campaigning on the big issues and sharing advice and information Providing training, consultancy, qualifications, events and products for businesses and professionals to help them manage risks to their workers and others Welcoming organisations into our membership and awards communities where they can learn from best practice and celebrate their achievements. The significant reductions in death and injury on the roads and in workplaces across the UK have demonstrated that a systematic approach to accident prevention works, and we are proud to have played our part. We are committed to continuing this legacy, and invite you to find out more about what we do and how you can get involved.
