Founded in 2018, Multiply Music Group is a privately owned business with headquarters in Buckinghamshire. We were founded by our two directors, Huw Williams and Harry O’Neill following success with the Multiply Music learning methods created by Huw in the years prior. We moved in to our headquarters at Poppy Road, Princes Risborough in the same year, which has quickly grown from two learning pods to six as you see it today. The Multiply Music learning method includes various teaching techniques that aim to keep our students engaged and keen to learn, without seeming like an extension to their school life. Students are encouraged to have fun and play interactive games with their teacher while we do the hard work and ensure they are following lesson plans and learning at the same time. A message from Sarah Bennett, IFtL CEO I know every CEO is proud of their Trust, their schools, the staff and the pupils within it…..and I am no exception. I know every CEO feels their Trust is unique, that their USP is different from every other; and they have a WOW factor that exceeds all. I am absolutely no exception to that either! I am personally so proud of the journey we have travelled and what we have achieved to date - created by people with a genuine desire: ‘To inspire the futures of us all through learning together’ We formed Inspiring Futures through Learning (IFtL) in 2016 as a natural extension of our school improvement journey. Indeed, for over twenty years our founding school, Two Mile Ash School had worked with very secure, high-quality partners in their ITT School-Based Partnership, supporting newly formed Trusts in turning schools in difficulty around and created our CPD programme to support the development of leadership and continual professional development both locally and nationally. There was a very strong track record of school improvement led by high performing leaders who shared a common vision. Developing a Multi-Academy Trust with like-minded schools and their leaders meant that our vision could circulate further, ensure the impact of our work reached out to more children and more staff benefited from high-quality development and learning from each other. Since 2016 we have achieved great success. We can quantify our success in Ofsted reports, performance data, financial spreadsheets and our recruitment and retention figures. However, most importantly to note is that we can only achieve such success because of our culture and ethos. It is our more qualitative success that makes IFtL truly unique. We are a strong family, with different personalities and differing abilities but we have the golden thread that pulls us together - a belief that we are stronger together; that we will go that extra mile for each other and support each other when things aren’t going the way we want them to. Our tutors are ambitious, social and enthusiastic top tier students who excel in their field of study and have an affinity with teaching. This is what we seek in a tutor in order to provide the best lessons for the student. Only with an 8 or higher and a genuine interest in the relevant subject will such a top tier student be selected. After an initial interview, it is up to the selected candidate to show us how he or she teaches. If that is sufficient, the teacher who has been hired will enter the training process, consisting of one or more trial lessons in which an actual lesson is simulated. During the entire period up to the first lesson and after that, the (prospective) teacher is extensively supervised by a quality manager who has several years of teaching experience and has shown superior results. Only tutors who are evaluated by students with an 8.0 average or higher for multiple actual lessons are given a permanent place in our team of tutors. All permanent lecturers take part in an advanced training programme, which focuses on improving teaching fundamentals, such as didactics, pedagogy, interpersonal communication and presentation skills. Students are often tempted to (only) make summaries and re-read or highlight textbooks, with the misleading idea that this improves their study results. Based on the available evidence, these study techniques are rated as being low utility learning (Dulonsky et al. 2013). At AthenaStudies, we are constantly analysing the most recent studies and assess student needs in order to find the most effective study methods to ensure the highest grades. It is proven that the most effective study method is retrieving the information out of the brain, instead of putting information into the brain. Spitzer et al. (1939) found that students who did one extra practice test scored about 10-15% better on their exam that students who did not. A more recent study from Butler et al. (2010) suggest an even bigger difference, with an estimated 30%. Hence, practice is key. Karpicke & Blunt (2011) takes this idea one step further and found that a group of students who read a topic four times scored less than students who practiced with the topic only once. Our tech team has created an ideal online environment where our teaching methods can flourish. Every course given by AthenaStudies is interactive and includes a lot of exam level practice material.
