I have had an interest in Art for most of my adult life and having never studied it at school I was nervous of taking up any classes so late in life. However, by chance whilst trying to find local art classes I happened to stumble upon Back Room Art and I sent an enquiring email. From the very first communication Heather put me immediately at ease and gave me the confidence to go to my first class. I joined a wonderful group of people. Heather works well to ensure we are all included in the lessons, working at our own pace and with projects and materials we feel comfortable to use. Heather’s inspiration, openness and motivation have given me a confidence in doing something I never felt capable of doing. Our works are encouraged and praised and Heather’s communication with everyone is brilliant to ensure we all get something out of it. She listens carefully to our aspirations and helps us to achieve them with advice, suggestions and with realistic goals. The facilities we work in are relaxed, friendly and well stocked with all the artistic materials you could wish for, giving me a chance to use resources I would not generally have tried out at home on my own. Lisa Sayers is a CNHC and BANT registered BSc nutritional therapist, nutrigenetics counsellor, ACSM certified exercise physiologist/health fitness specialist, sports massage therapist, Stott Pilates instructor, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) practitioner, CHEK practitioner, former qualified general nurse and venepuncturist working as a personal trainer and nutritional therapist in Henley-on-Thames, Reading, Marlow (Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire). Lisa qualified as a nurse in 1988, began working in the fitness and health industry in 2003 and has been running her own successful practice since 2005. She regularly teaches in a number of locations including Drummond physiotherapy clinic and Drummond Education, and has published several articles for them and other local health related practices. Lisa now operates from her own air conditioned and well equipped studio and consulting room in Henley-on-Thames where there is private parking available. Lisa’s unique skill sets allow her to take a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to help clients with all types of needs move towards their health and fitness goals. Clients vary from teenagers to the elderly, and range from the able bodied seeking to improve an aspect of their well-being to those suffering from disease, metabolic disorders or in recovery from injury or surgery. Here Lisa is able to offer help drawing upon a range of specialisms including biomechanical analysis, strength training, dietary analysis and programming, nutri-genetic counselling (which enables her to understand an individual genetic strengths and weaknesses-which may impact on health and performance), disease and weight management, back pain management, and post-rehabilitation. Lisa passionately believes that the structure of the body and its overall performance is dependent on genetic make-up and its response to our internal and external environment (this includes exposure to diet, stress, medications, pollutants, toxins and exercise). Therefore by modifying diet, environment and providing 'sensitive' exercise programming a person may be helped to reduce their risk of disease expression, optimise performance and increase health and vitality. Lisa works closely with consultants, surgeons, physiotherapists and complimentary therapists, and takes an evidence based medicine approach to continually improving her own professional practice so that she can help her clients make intelligent decisions relating to their health and fitness goals. Outside of her practice, Lisa is a mum with three grown up daughters and enjoys a number of activities including marathon running and cooking. Lisa enjoys supporting those in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction at Yeldall Manor, Towards Recovery and local community support groups. Lisa is committed to the pursuit of knowledge and continual improvement. She seeks to invest 10% of her time into research and further specialist training, recognising that it is the intelligent application of knowledge as a functionally trained medicine practitioner that is one of her key differentiators. In this digital age there is more competition for our attention than ever before. This has a knock on impact on our lives as where we place our attention determines what we experience and how we feel... I, Alex La Via, was inspired to set up Live More Offline after noticing the impact of digital technology in my work and home life. Digital wellness is about using technology in a way that brings us closer to the things and people we value rather than being distracted away from our goals. Examples of unhelpful digital habits can be the extra episode of Netflix which leaves us feeling tired the next day, digital notifications that get in the way of focused work or scrolling time away yet feeling we don't have the time for the things we love. I am passionate about helping people to create a relationship with technology that is on their terms and creates the life they want! Alex La Via The Live More Offline approach is rooted in the evidence base of mindfulness and neuroscience. Drawing on research emerging on the impact of digital technology on focus, memory, creativity, empathy, wellbeing and sleep, to name just a few areas. I have experienced the 'always on' culture first-hand, within my corporate career, and understand the challenges of managing the blurred line between work and home life. In addition, I noticed my greatest challenge with technology on relocating to Yorkshire in early 2018 and being between jobs. At this time, I started spending more time on social media and Netflix. After noticing the impact on my life, I took the bold decision to disconnect from digital technology by flying to Spain and walking 500 miles on the Camino de Santiago. Spending six weeks walking in nature and disconnecting from digital technology, I felt energised, healthy and inspired. This led me to question how to get the right balance back at home. From this moment, I have undertaken academic research and furthered my training into the impact that digital technology is having on wellbeing and creating the lives we want. I now bring this combination of personal experience and knowledge to empower others to find a balance with digital technology which supports their goals and the life they want to live. I've taken other photography classes, but nothing compared to what I learned from the classes I took at Henry's. I looked forward to taking them each week. Jim, the instructor, was very knowledgeable, patient and explained the material with great detail. He took the time to fully answer any questions we had and provided quality feedback about my photography. Since taking the classes, everyone noticed the great improvement of my photos, and I'm more excited than ever to trying new things with the photography techniques I've learned. The other students in the class I was in also enjoyed it as much as I did, so much so that almost everyone took the more advanced classes together. Now, I no longer rely on the auto-mode on my camera and enjoy tweaking the setting and seeing the improvement of my photos. The classes and the expert instruction gave me the opportunities to see what potential my camera has and what setting work best in any given environment. I can't stress enough how many compliments on the improvement of my photos when posting on Facebook. My photos really now capture what I'm seeing, instead of dull version of real life. My only disappointment is that there's no more classes left for me to take. To anyone who wants to take their photography to the next level, The courses at Henry's Toronto are for you. But I took the leap and signed up for Henry's 101 course with Jim Ogilvie. It was the best decision I made. Jim was great at explaining and demonstrating the various aspects of photography - I was amazed at how much we covered in 5 weeks. There’s no replacement for having an instructor walk you through concepts and answer your questions directly. I was so pleased that I signed up for 201 course with Jim and it was even better! I recommend both courses, whether you are brand new to photography or, like me, are self-taught and you know there may be some gaps. Decluttering to Get Organised With an extensive background in Interior Design and Contemporary Art logistics and installations I have a great eye for detail and plenty of solutions for organisation, styling and storage. I aim to create freedom from things and functionality in spaces that have ceased to fulfil potential. This extends to archiving materials such as photographs and documents; decluttering and packing in preparation for a move; unpacking and dressing a new space. My clients may aspire to a goal such as home decluttering with the view to redecorate afterwards. I really enjoy being part of this fresh start and so we can get stuck into the painting and finishing touches together. In the case of a commercial space, this is something I can organise as a service. I have an initial consultation with new clients to assess the job and needs and wants, and then I’ll go away and devise a plan of action. Once you are happy with the plan the exciting new journey begins. Clients may have suffered a bereavement and find it challenging to go through the emotional process of letting go. Other clients may have a tendency towards collecting, or hoarding, and find it challenging to let go due to the relationship between the items and memories. I manage this in my own life and so I have many techniques and fresh ways of re-looking at your objects and what they represent in your life. I will be sensitive and patient. Objects often unlock memories that you need to take the time to process before you let go and I understand that. We are working together towards success in your long-term goals Professional organising and one-to-one coaching are my passions Many clients choose one-to-one coaching. We spend time together focusing specifically on personal goals and ways of achieving them. With most of my clients I aim to introduce movement and light exercise, new hobbies (I teach calligraphy, digital photography, arts and crafts, writing and poetry, easy to follow dance workouts…), dealing with triggers and developing coping mechanisms (relating to conditions such as anxiety), building confidence, tackling difficult social situations and practical advice on areas such as overcoming anxiety before an exam, e.g. driving, job interview techniques, and managing stress. Don’t worry about the light exercise – it is all feel-good factor and nothing to do with training or learning routines. We are going to have fun together. I will make a programme tailored to you and you will be amazed where you can be in four weeks, three months, six months, a year... I have personal experience with PTSD, anxiety, panic disorder and depression. I know these conditions change your life, but they don’t have to limit it. I was stalled in a comfortable yet loveless relationship that was dispassionate and wonted. I felt lost, confused, and alone. Most painfully, I was caught in a corporate job that while financially beneficial, sucked the life out of my soul. I was unable to perceive a way out, depressed because I couldn’t decipher what steps to take next to change my life, and at a total loss as to how to regain happiness. I was caught in unhealthy habits, addictions, and fears. It was a silent suffering, like slowly suffocating from carbon monoxide poisoning. Then I became crippled with anxiety. My heart would race, I would break out in a cold sweat, my vision would narrow, and I would edge nearer and nearer toward fainting or vomiting. The experience was visceral and terrifying. And, it brought me to yoga. I remember very little about my first yoga class except that it was the first time I sat face-to-face with my pain, and I survived! Laying down for Savasana, the final resting posture, I surrendered into the floor. Layers of stress, fear, and panic melted away. For the first time, in a long time, I felt at peace in my body and in my mind. I don’t remember when I went back to yoga again, but I know I did. I left class knowing I had just met my biggest challenge and my greatest gift. Yoga would eventually teach me that I could experience the depth of my pain, and not only survive but thrive. Meditation would eventually teach me that I could feel my feelings and not run away. Yoga and meditation shifted the entire course of my life. Today I live a life that many people dream of. I travel the world, do what I love, help others, and am married to a man I love and who loves me in return. I would not be here without the roadmap the practices of yoga, meditation, and personal growth provide and I promise they will help you achieve your unique vision of a life you are head over heels in love with too.
