Our mission is to work with educational institutions to develop educational solutions to support today’s learners. This will be achieved through activities, which include the strategic design and delivery of interactive and engaging programmes of study through to small online skills based learning courses (eg MOOCs), or through active support of and advice about an institutions’ innovation and change agenda. Background The journey of today’s learners in the 21st century needs to reflect a world where shifting job roles and new technologies will impact significantly on career development. This is underpinned by current estimates about new millenials: They are estimated to work in some 15 to 20 job roles over their lifetime, The majority expect to work beyond 65 years of age (and 12% until they die), It is estimated that 65% of today’s school children will work in a job that doesn’t yet exist. Having the necessary skills and up to date knowledge and understanding to underpin multiple job roles over a lifetime will require a commitment to lifelong learning. With increasing state pension ages and average life expectancy worldwide this drives the need for educational solutions to support individuals gaining access to the right job roles and career development. Traditional models of higher education are increasingly costly for learners in developed markets and short of supply (and out of reach in terms of price) for learners in emerging economies. Innovative solutions are needed.

Bauer Academy was founded by Courtnay McLeod, a news broadcaster and academic, in 2014. Courtnay had seen that traditional education was in many instances failing employers and learners. She set up the Bauer Academy inside Bauer Media, initially to create a talent pipeline for Bauer’s multi-platform media business in the UK. The Bauer Academy grew rapidly, launching partnership programmes with The Big Lottery, The Rank Foundation, the European Social Fund, and The Prince’s Trust, amongst others. The learners on these programmes are given access to Bauer Media’s experts and resources to learn practical skills like content production and creative writing, as well as all-important employability training. In 2016, The Bauer Academy was accepted on to the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers. Apprenticeship Standards can be introduced to develop and increase skills in existing employees as well as new entrants, and our team have developed a smart, flexible and collaborative delivery model that has changed the language of Apprenticeships. The Bauer Academy’s work on diversity was featured in an Ofcom report and video, and has been showcased at an event we hosted at Westminster for MPs and leaders in education. We have introduced new programming roles within Bauer Media’s radio business, that specifically targeted and hired from under-represented female groups. The Academy’s contribution to tackling diversity issues is genuine, and creates not only a positive impact but genuine change within the media and other industries.

Stone Farm Study Centre is located on the edge of Dartmoor in the heart of the Devon countryside. Set in the foothills of the National Park, the site boasts 110 acres of organic park-land pasture and is an idyllic retreat for children to visit. Among 17th century listed buildings we have a traditional working farm where every morning and evening visiting groups can help with supervised farm jobs - complete with pigs, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, alpacas, a donkey, a pony, 'Hedwig' the African eagle owl and resident sheepdog Baloo there really is something for everyone! Stone Farm also has its own onsite lake where, if lucky, the children will be able to spot local birdlife including ducks, geese, moorhen and kingfishers. When taking a nature walk in the adjoining woodland we often see deer, foxes and badgers. First established in 1992 by two former teachers, Stone Farm Study Centre has welcomed schools for 30 years and we understand the educational, physical and emotional benefits school visits offer. We have attempted to create a Study Centre which we would want to visit ourselves and an environment in which every child can flourish and grow. We work closely with every school to ensure our on-site activities, and the excursions you choose in the local area, incorporate and complement the curriculum of each year group. Her work can be seen in a variety of museums, heritage sites & stately homes including the Royal Mews, the Royal Armouries, Historic Royal Palaces, The Victoria & Albert Museum, English Heritage, Chicago Museum of Art and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. She provided buttons, ribbons and braid for an award-winning project at Perth Museum, and hundreds of buttons for the film “Sweeney Todd”. Her latest film work includes buttons for "Napoleon" and "Lee". She has created buttons & trimmings for various series including “The Crown”, “Becoming Elizabeth” , “A Stitch in Time”. She is the author of a number of books including Buttons, A Passementerie Workshop Manual, Dorset Ring Buttons, Thread Wrapped Buttons, Zwirnknopf Buttons and the Making Passementerie range of instructional DVDs. She appears on the Create & Craft channel with demonstrations of passementerie techniques, representing her company Gina-B Silkworks. Gina is the contributor for the Passementerie entry in the Encyclopaedia of Medieval Dress and Textiles of the British Isles c. 450-1450 (Brill). She has also co-authored Tak V Bowes Departed: A 15th Century Braiding Manual Examined and 6 booklets on medieval narrow wares, and regularly produces how-to articles for magazines, as well as papers and essays on other forms of passementerie. Gina has been involved in textile research projects with groups around the world, and is a founder member of Soper Lane, a group begun in 1999 to research the lives and work of the medieval London silkwomen. Gina is a trained illustrator, with a background in historical and diagram illustration and graphic design. Her passion for textiles grew from studying historical costume for her illustrative work.
