Maggi Toner-Edgar and Sarah Ames

Cockermouth

Maggi and Sarah created two projects to engage teenagers during the summer holidays, encouraging creativity and the development of new skills. The pack included a hard-backed sketchbook with a workbook of suggested art based activities, also Derwent Arts kindly donated some drawing equipment. The second project included a fully illustrated instruction booklet, coordinated fabrics, ribbons, needles and threads to create a decorative length of bunting, which could be customised with applique lettering or imagery. The scope of these projects could reach beyond the original pack and the summer holiday period, inspiring children to consider further individual projects. The quality of the pack and its learning materials encourages young people to work independently and the workbooks encouraged recipients to explore their own personal projects. The packs also contain Crafts Council project ideas to inspire children and teenagers, and support material for those who may wish to embark on the Arts Awards scheme. ‘Recreate Make’ intend to develop an Arts Award offering in the near future. With the help of the West Cumbria Learning Centre, Maggi and Sarah were able to distribute projects to 38 young people across West Cumbria who it was felt would find them beneficial. We gave the packs out during the summer holiday of 2021 to help additional homeschooling ideas for the arts. They were given to children from Wigton to Whitehaven, the majority centred around the Workington area.

Born To Swim School of Swimming

born to swim school of swimming

BORN TO SWIM is a small swimming school established for 16 years. We have taught thousands of babies and children throughout the London area with amazing results. As we like to say, we teach from crib to competition. We are passionate about what we do and as well as teaching we wish to inspire our swimmers. From our baby and toddler classes, to our children’s lessons and our bespoke one-to-one sessions you can see the differences between BORN TO SWIM members to babies and children taught elsewhere. We have little ones as young as 3 years old swimming 10 metres. Okay, it may not be the national recognised stroke at this point, but it is definitely not doggy paddle. We NEVER ever teach doggy paddle or use armbands. Our teachers are enthusiastic about our approach and are all trained in the BORN TO SWIM building block methodology. They love what they do. They love children and have bags of patience and understanding little ones needs. They are energetic, build confidence, give support and tons of encouragement. Our teachers make swimming lessons fun whist learning, creating a conducive learning environment. ALL of our teachers hold ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) or STA (Swimming Teachers’ Association) level 2 qualifications, CRB Enhanced Disclosure checks and a RLSS or NRASTC qualification. You are in safe hands. Whether blowing bubbles to swimming all four strokes with ease and perfection. From classes to bespoke one to one sessions. From crib to competition, BORN TO SWIM has a solution for you.

Mind Skills TrainingSuicide Is Preventable Suicide is preventable. As a society, we have a responsibility to ensure that young people, adults, teachers, parents and carers alike, within our community, have the opportunity to discuss the subject of mental health in an open, frank and honest way. We want to inspire, motivate and educate people with our positive message. So how do we help? And can you help, too? Please take the time to read about the work that Mind Skills Training does. Mental Health Matters Mindskills Training was developed out of a desire to help those suffering with their mental health or with the impact of suicide. Since its inception, we have worked hard to provide support where it's most needed. Orla Crummey “So informative, so much to learn and so much to take away from a fantastic mentor. Well done Phil and thank you. Cant wait to get the younger kids involved.” Dr. James Galezewski Clinical Psychologist, Associate Professor “Mr. Mc Taggart has presented to and spent considerable time with my graduate psychology students both in Belfast and in Chicago over a number of years. He has a keen knowledge of and insight into the dilemma of suicide, and the pain that is left in the wake of the suicide of a loved one. He has the expertise in community organisation and has left a lasting impression on my students and me, on the importance of individual awareness and reaching out person-to-person to those in distress.”
