Welcome to this website of the Northern Ireland Commission for Catholic Education which will act as a hub of information for Catholic education within Northern Ireland. As well as providing links to the schools within the Catholic Managed Sector in N.I. it will also link to other education partners. In addition, it will provide those interested in Catholic education with resources, guidance and policies to assist them in their work. It will also be a place of celebration for Catholic education and include examples of the Catholic ethos alive in our schools. Across Northern Ireland there are 489 Catholic schools serving the needs of 45.5% of the school population. Our schools, working with the parents as the primary educators of their children, strive to ensure that children and young people discover their uniqueness as individuals and develop their gifts and talents as full members of a faith community. Northern Ireland has experienced conflict. But our schools are not some sort of quaint relic from a divided past. They have shown themselves to be active contributors to reconciliation and the Common Good. Our schools are open and welcoming to children and young people of all nationalities and of all faiths and to those who have no religious affiliation. Within our schools we promote a belief that difference is to be understood and celebrated as a source of enrichment. This mission is undertaken by Governors, school leaders and staff who are dedicated and committed to supporting the children and young people in their care and the communities in which they are located.

I spent the early part of my career involved with commercial projects of varying size in the UK and overseas. More recently, I had the opportunity to indulge my true passion for old buildings whilst working with Donald Insall and Associates in the Chester and Shrewsbury branches. I relish the challenge of problem solving involved with manipulating existing buildings to accept new uses and love to see old buildings sitting harmoniously alongside modern extensions. Since then I have had the pleasure of working solely in the domestic sector and have a real passion for bringing well designed domestic projects to life. I enjoy delivering bespoke architectural solutions to smaller scale projects where I can provide the care and attention required to make a house a home. There is real joy in taking a Client through the design and build process to realise their dream home. My real ‘joie de vivre’ are transformative projects that look at the whole house to make the rooms and spaces flow and reveal a beautiful home where there may have stood an uninspiring building. I like to be as frugal with my Client’s budgets as possible and believe that good design shouldn’t cost a fortune. Who We Are Enable (Sheffield) is a charity based training organisation for people with disabilities. Our aim is to offer a quality care and training opportunities to meet their individual needs. Our training areas deliver themed subjects and topics relevant to suit our learner’s abilities and skills. First opening for business in 1994, with the intention to make a difference to the lives of people with disabilities in Sheffield. From the offset we have always involved our learners in the decision making process, and this is, we believe, the key to our success. Enable (Sheffield) has grown to become a well established and renown training provider for disabled adults in Sheffield, but began life in very humble beginnings. Founder Alan Finchett rented a room in a local school, for disabled adults from the area to use, initially repairing and recycling toys and bikes but gradually more activities were added to the schedules. Within a year, with more learners attending, space was getting tight so it was soon time to move to bigger premises. Skip along 8 years and demand was so great for places that work started on our purpose built building. Exactly 10 years after starting, Enable was ready to move into their new home. The centre has been designed specifically to meet the demands of disabled people, offering a bright, spacious learning place for all.
