Who We Are & Where We Are High Peak School is part of the Kedleston Group and opened in 2014.Our specialist multi-disciplinary team of leaders, carers, therapists and educationalists work seamlessly together. They teach and proactively support pupils who have been subjected to adverse childhood experiences, including trauma, toxic stress and associated mental wellbeing difficulties, aiming to break the cycle of adversity. Children and young people may also come to us because they are challenged by attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, and dyspraxia or moderate and specific learning difficulties. We have a specific provision within the school called the Quiet Learning Zone where we support children and young people who have an autistic spectrum condition including Asperger’s syndrome and those who have communication and sensory difficulties. The environment and teaching approaches are bespoke and tailored to ensure our children and young people thrive and can develop their self-esteem. We have extensive experience of supporting those with attachment disorders or those who have been victims of abuse and neglect. We actively encourage the development of life skills such as staying safe, acting responsibly and being respectful whether that be at school, at home or in the local community. From our beautiful rural location in Cheshire, we offer a unique setting having been converted from a hotel to create innovative and inspiring learning, social, recreational and living spaces.

Batik Experience Days in Derbyshire, UK Try your hand at the ancient art of batik. Using hot wax and an array of colourful dyes to produce textile and paper creations, batik is a fun and unique way to craft. The process of creating batik offers a journey of discovery and surprise. The applied hot wax saves an area of colour which then resists further applications of colour as the piece builds and changes before you. Learn how to develop motifs & pattern with each subsequent application of the waxing and dyeing process and be amazed at what is finally revealed once all the wax is removed! My name is Sue and I am an experienced artist and crafts tutor with many years practicing batik. Please see www.susan-rhodes.co.uk for examples of my batik work. Opened in November 2018, Attic Batik was originally housed in the Market Place of Belper’s historic former public house, The White Swan. I've been developing front end web and mobile apps in the United Kingdom for over 10 years. Recently my focus has been developing websites using Gatsby JS & TypeScript with various headless CMS's such as Prismic, Contentful, Headless WordPress, & DatoCMS, to name a few. DatoCMS is by far my favourite headless CMS. I've created a few open source plugins for DatoCMS. My two most popular can be viewed here along with the repos: Font Awesome v5 icons: PluginRepo Responsive widths: PluginRepo As well as contracting for various large SAAS platforms mainly using React JS, Gatsby JS & TypeScript, I'm now compiling and teaching a catalogue of courses on front end web development. Online Courses & Tutorials Way back when I was a junior developer, I was fortunate enough to have been mentored by experts in the field. This allowed me to rapidly progress in my career and understand and architect multiple large projects in my time as an expert front end developer. While I'm still largely involved in contract work, I'm simultaneously passing on the buck and sharing my knowledge. The research arm of The Griffin Institute is working on two areas of potential benefit to people living with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) by creating a replacement bowel tissue for transplantation and by developing an in vitro platform for evaluating candidate drugs for the treatment of those patients who are not suitable for surgery. Our tissue engineering approach could also be used to treat other bowel diseases including reconstructive surgery after cancer removal. Approximately 50% of patients with Crohn’s disease and 20% with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) will require life-changing surgery that involves removal of part of the bowel resulting in complications with stool frequency, malnutrition and infections. As a proof of concept, we will grow stem cells on a biological inert scaffold in the laboratory to optimise the conditions for seeding the patient’s own stem cells for eventual transplantation. Use of the patients own stem cells avoids immune rejection. This proof of concept will lay the foundation for translational studies and eventual clinical trials for the management of UC and other bowel conditions in humans. We also hope that this work will lead to the development of a 3D model where the model tissue populated with healthy cells will be used to better understand the natural progression of UC for the purposes of testing interventions for early stage disease.

Kathy King is a Science and Psychology specialist who has worked with a variety of vulnerable groups including young people with special educational needs, including social, emotional and behavioural problems, and the homeless. She is passionate about showing others the power of being active in nature and using outdoor activities as a tool to improve wellbeing. Her research has proven that participation in a 6-week Forest School programme can increase attendance and reduce exclusion rates from mainstream school. Applying the fundamentals of the holistic Forest School approach in all that she does, Kathy believes this can create positive changes in behaviour. Kathy made a life-changing decision to leave teaching and enrol on an outdoor instructor programme after experiencing high levels of work-related stress and anxiety. The 2-day a week course provided an opportunity to master new skills and focus on what she considered to be most important in life. It was on the water that the idea for the Wild Camp Training Programme was born. This is a project aimed at young women who are currently out of education, employment and/or training (N.E.E.T) and is designed to empower and increase physical and mental health. Since then, the charity has evolved to deliver after school clubs, forest school sessions, holiday clubs, 1-1 outdoor activity sessions and group days out.
