Founded in 1959 by Yehudi Menuhin, the Bath Festival Orchestra has long been established as the beating heart and resident ensemble of The Bath Festival. Our reach is now international, having used the power of digital media and technologies to establish ambitious collaborative projects for worldwide audiences. From its inception in 1999 Foresight has grown from a group of enthusiastic volunteers with a mission to assist blind and partially sighted people to lead more fulfilled lives, into a well respected mainstream support organisation addressing the varied and complex needs of its clients. Demand for the services of the organisation is such that Foresight has already grown out of its first home and moved into a new improved premises. Whilst the organisation was delivering a limited range of services under a variety of grant-funded schemes these premises were adequate and indeed accommodated 10,000 visits last year. Foresight, however, realised some time ago, that if it was going to continue to grow and sustain itself in the future it needed to move away from grant dependency towards becoming a deliverer of mainstream services. During extensive market research with its client group, Foresight uncovered a massive range of needs and untold areas of distress that were not being addressed by the statutory authorities. After long negotiations with the local authority Foresight were able to successfully tender for its first contract to deliver services. These have proved so successful that the local authority has procured additional services from the organisation. Foresight has also applied to several external bodies for funding assistance on new projects and these are due to come online very shortly. The only obstacle now in the way of the organisations' expansion and sustainability is the building it occupies. It is not large enough to accommodate the increasing number of its clients, is not adaptable to meet the specialised needs of its clients and it cannot accommodate the new services Foresight wish to offer its growing client base. This will shortly be addressed as we establish a new base for the organisation that is fit for use and this will be a major stand of the organisations move towards sustainability and away from grant dependence. During its phenomenal growth Foresight has benefited from the wide experience of its Trustees, who have supported the staff and volunteers in growing the business in a sustainable and measured way and this experience will stand the organisation in good stead during its next phase of growth.

Not fully understanding emotions, the impact they have and how to manage them can lead to self-destructive behaviour and negative beliefs, which is not only hard for the young person but for the family around them too. Seeking help from someone objective, outside the family, might feel difficult but many of those I work with say they wish they’d done it sooner. Parenting is hard work and it’s ok not to struggle on alone. I have spent my entire career working with young people, spending 20 years as a secondary school teacher before becoming a coach. I’m also a mum-of-two myself, so I know how difficult it can be. How does coaching work? Using a combination of talking and listening, alongside a series of practical steps, I help guide and encourage your child. Together we work through the issues that are troubling them to come up with a sustainable plan to set them on the right path for the future. How we get through our teenage years can pave the way for how we manage the rest of our lives. I’m passionate about bringing out the best in every child and teenager and giving them the confidence and skills to succeed in the world. Beyond the C-19 pandemic; employees will expect more choice in how they work; regular remote working will become the norm, and Artificial Intelligence will soon make many current jobs redundant. Agility requires collective leadership capability – an adaptable, durable enterprise approach to leading and leadership which develops, executes and evolves strategy in the face of changing context and unexpected progress while pursuing change, transformation, innovation and business performance improvement. Agility requires the creation of 'directional clarity' and 'emotional engagement' on a dynamic basis; this is harder to do in dispersed and remote working conditions. Yet remote working can enable greater participation and collaboration as perceived hierarchical power is eliminated when everyone is a '2 inch box on a screen', and leaders are forced to trust their people more than they have done.
