Yolande’s first introduction to yoga was back in 1994, when a friend took her along to the local sports centre, to explore what this ancient form of “exercise” had to offer. The class was full and felt and smelt nice. A waft of incense and the subtle background sounds of Indian chants welcomed them in and she was kind of already sold at this point. The teacher a wonderful women called Sharon, from the sivinananda linage, spoke softly and taught various breathing techniques and body postures, that left her feeling strong and relaxed at the same time. She returned each week, and yoga has been Yolande’s bedrock ever since. Over the years Yolande has felt privileged to have spent time with many great teachers, all offering their own perspectives and experiences of yoga which have inspired, and paved the path for her own healing and transformation. After many years of practicing Yolande went on to study with Katy Appleton of appleyoga in London for her 200hr Yoga Teaching certificate, so she could go on to teach her passion, pregnancy yoga. Yolande studied pregnancy and postnatal yoga with Nadia Narain at Triyoga in London and as an Active Birth Teacher with Janet Balaskas. Yolande has also been supporting women and their partners as a birth doula since 2013. Having established a teaching practice the call to study deeper lead her to Rishikesh, India to study with Akhanda Yoga, under the guidance of Yogrishi Vishvketu, and complete 300hr Advanced Yoga Teaching certification and was given her spiritual name Jeevika Devi.

Shane has been involved with the martial arts since the early eighties. He started studying martial arts by learning Pentjak Silat Perisai Diri in 1983. He then moved to Chow Gar Tong Long Kung Fu with the Australian School of Kung Fu and Tai Chi with Si-Fu Tony Conley in 1986. After training full time, and becoming a senior instructor, he started teaching Tai Chi classes full time in 1990, mostly around the southern suburbs of Brisbane, Redlands and Ipswich. The club was originally called Powerline Health and Lifestyle, then after several years it changed to the Imperial Tai Chi Academy. The club Si-Sook Kung is Denis Sue -Tin and Si-Fu is Guy Sue-Tin. Studying Chinese medicine for four years, lead Shane to a greater understanding of the need to promote the natural benefits of the practice of Tai Chi. Body, mind and spirit are brought together by Tai Chi which generates a feeling of good health and vitality. The martial arts component of Tai Chi reinforces good health, both mental and physical, by promoting exercises which strengthen the body and promote overall fitness. So for Shane, Tai Chi became a relevant and meaningful activity for all ages. Shane has been teaching in the community for over 30 years and is proud to be able to make a difference to people's mobility and health. I don’t come from a dance or sports background, and originally trained as a textile designer. I still design, so now combine my love of printed pattern, with my fascination with people’s movement patterns. So I’m no stranger to what sitting at a desk staring at a computer screen does to your body. And how I long to stretch and move after a day of that. I first came across Pilates about 16 years ago in my late 20’s, when I felt it was about time I started exercise of some sort, never having been ‘sporty’ or a fan of the gym. I wasn’t sure what to expect from my first class, but I did like the sound of improved muscle tone and length. I soon discovered there was a whole lot more to it than that. Although there are many physical benefits, the reason I returned after that first class, and keep returning to my mat after all these years is simply how great it makes me feel. Energised and relaxed at the same time, and definitely walking taller (a bonus when you are only 5’ 4”!) I’m certain that doing Pilates has kept the niggling aches and pains of age at bay; has allowed me to do all the other things I love with ease and grace, and has left me feeling stronger and healthier now than I did when I first started. I completed my teacher training with Body Control Pilates in 2008, and since then have loved watching the changes in my client’s bodies and their enthusiasm as they learn, and I have also learnt so much from them in return. I am a supervising teacher for BCPA in Edinburgh, helping to train new teachers, so there may be a student teacher and an extra pair of eyes to assist you in your class!
