An introduction from our Chief Executive Robert Candy… I started the Scaffolding Association in 2011 with the intention of creating an open and inclusive organisation that would provide unbiased support to businesses operating in the scaffolding and access sector. Since then we have made considerable progress with our strategic campaign to raise safety standards, strengthen skills training, improve the levels of scaffolding competence and extend our independent audit process to protect product and service quality. Our membership growth demonstrates that we’re creating a business framework that allows scaffolding contractors of all sizes to deliver professional services while improving the safety, and competitive nature, of the whole industry. Robert Candy The new Audited Membership category has been developed in line with PAS91 specifically to demonstrate that scaffolding contractors operate to the highest standards. It offers an independent third party audit, against a scaffolding-specific procurement standard. This move has been welcomed by house builders, local authorities and major contractors who now see the benefit of our members on their tender lists and construction sites. The health and well-being of the workforce is our number one priority. Our vision is one of workplaces that are incident- and injury-free, where everyone returns home safely. The Association continues work with designers, clients and other stakeholders to achieve this. The Association also meets regularly with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to learn from incidents and to work together across the industry to produce policies and procedures that benefit everyone. Safety alerts and standards have been prepared with the HSE covering a range of issues including edge protection and loading bay gates. Training provision and the setting out of best practice is one of the key strategic aims of the Association. We are creating a central hub of knowledge for the whole industry, and we’re committed to leading the way in the provision of world class training in the use of scaffolding. Our members represent a significant percentage of the sector’s capacity and our aim has always been to aid companies in expanding their services and capabilities safely and efficiently. By having such a broad range of members that include clients, erectors, designers, and health and safety professionals, we have been able to assist in creating new opportunities that allow our members to leverage greater value and standards in the scaffolding industry.

Research in the Journal of Education suggests that better informed teenagers are likely to make more advantageous careers choices and this in turn can be linked to higher earnings in adult life and that is why excellent preparation for the future is part of our mission statement. I have been a science teacher for over 20 years and a senior leader for more than 15 years, working in multicultural and diverse schools across both Leeds and Bradford. As headteacher I have an absolute passion and commitment to inclusive education as a way of improving the life chances of young people and their families. I believe that this is done through delivering the highest quality teaching and learning, whilst developing the whole young person in terms of their character, skills and ability to show resilience to the ever changing and challenging world around them. In the Winter of 2014, Pole Place opened its first studio just South of London in West Sussex. A second studio followed shortly after north of the border in the heart of Glasgow’s city centre. Founded by Ruby Rose Jackson in her hometown of Horsham, Pole Place’s original home was on the second floor of a popular bar on Piries Place - B52’s. Ruby had long dreamt of opening her own Pole studio having become hooked years earlier. Qualifying as an instructor, and with an ever-growing Pole skillset combined with a natural passion for teaching and inspiring those around her the initial idea of Pole Place was firmly at the visionary stage. Like any new business, funding was required to move it from the ideas stage to cutting the ribbon. With the studio as the inspiration Ruby began to fly as cabin crew with British Airways. Without revealing the un-glamorous side to air travel, on many random nights in many random places, hotel rooms all around the world became Ruby’s office - any spare minute she could find would go into business planning, designing, developing and creating her dream - Pole Place. Her dedication eventually paid off and she was able to leave her full-time post flying to finally open Pole Place’s studio doors. Pole Place initially began with a handful of clients. Steadily growing within the first couple of years, the Horsham studio later moved into our larger, current home on Church Street in Warnham. In 2016, a change in Ruby’s personal life presented her with a family move to Scotland. This gave way for an ideal opportunity to open a Pole Place sister venue on West Nile Street in Glasgow’s city centre which provides our Scottish “hame”! At Pole Place, we are extremely proud to have created a safe space for anyone to come and step out of their comfort zone and into an exciting new world. Where hair is flicked, confidence is boosted and dreams are made. Growing over the years, we have had the pleasure of teaching thousands of clients across both our studios. With nine instructors within our team, we are honoured to provide support and inspiration to all of our clients. From teaching the basics to mastering tricks, giving new skills, confidence and empowering one another. You can be anyone you want to be in the studio with zero judgement and only encouragement from all of the Pole Place Family.

Where we started Need often finds a way to drive an idea, sometimes further than we all expect, and Bounce Back was just such an idea. In 2011 we started a small painting and decorating social enterprise, with the sole purpose of employing people who were coming out of prison. Recruitment was done through interviews in the prison and the first team of 5 people were commissioned to start off by re-building and decorating our offices. They did a very creative job despite the rather erratic grouting and a few hitches with the quality of electrical fitting and we were all delighted. When other people asked if they could use the decorators we would point out that the team had just left prison and clients would say ‘if its ok with you its ok with us’ and that was when we realised we could change perception by endorsing people, giving people trust and putting our belief in them. As the work grew, clients wanted decorating but also wanted to make a difference and we quickly realised that there was an opportunity to do more including training people to be ready for work. Anyone who starts a charity tends to believe in serendipity and the passion for what we choose to do enables us to circumnavigate barriers and overlook obstacles. ‘Outcomes’ were not something we’d ever heard of and simply delivering success for the guys leaving prison was all we wanted to achieve. Fate and amazing people along the way stepped in. HMP Wandsworth supported our recruitment, The London Probation Trust helped us, we were given guidance to set up training and then we were lucky enough to be given a building for a year in which to flourish. Finally, through the support of our decorating clients we were working all the time and thanks to some amazing organisations, the first of which was Axis, we started to grow. We always knew that through the power of skills training and a job, we could make a difference and see change in our participants. However, we also realised early on that change could only come with support for the individuals, which led to our case management team working with individuals for as long as they need it when they leave prison and are go into work.

For over 2 decades I’ve been supporting my clients in their health and wellbeing through various forms of massage and healing. I offer effective treatments in my clinic and stimulating education in the classroom. Leaving my past life as a graphic designer, I went back to college and studied Aromatherapy. Fast forward many years and experiences, I have gone on to train in Abdominal Therapy, Reflexology, Reiki, Indian Head Massage, Thai Yoga Massage and On-Site Acupressure Chair Massage (Amma Massage). Constantly striving to improve my skills has lead me to various exotic places, from the Thai jungle, rainforests of Central America, throughout North America, and then the rolling hills in Surrey, UK. I first learned about Abdominal Therapy in 2004, after a chance meeting with Dr. Rosita Arvigo, whilst on holiday in Belize, Central America. This inspired me to seek Abdominal Therapy when I returned home to the UK. Driven by personal health issues, I received regular treatments which supported and reframed my attitude to my own pelvic health. Abdominal Therapy not only transformed my health, but also my outlook on life. Years later, and after working with hundreds of clients, I now teach Abdominal Therapy, running workshops at personal and professional level, both in person and online specialising in the art of gaining and maintaining abdominal health. I run Abdominal workshops for those who seek a deeper understanding and healing from digestive or pelvic issues, and train professional therapists in the art of Abdominal Therapy within The Abdominal Therapy Collective. I was a graphic designer for 15 years, immersed in the discipline of explaining concepts, products and events in a way that was easy to understand and visually striking, I bring these qualities to my teaching, always seeking simple and effective ways to explain healing concepts and methods to my students. I have created a beautiful haven for healing and learning in my home in leafy Twickenham, South West London, UK. Offering treatments at the top of my home in my cocoon-like therapy room, and a fun and engaging workshop space at the bottom, in my kitchen and garden studio. My passion for pelvic health education draws me near and far, for those seeking personal healing or professional growth alike. I am a mum to one energetic little boy who loves to sing, dance and play silly games. I am also a registered childminder, after doing some research and investigation into Moo Music I decided that this was right MOOove for me as I have long wanted to give office work a rest and do something that is both rewarding and fun and would give me the opportunity to spend more time with my son, so I took the giant step and brought Moo Music to the Isle of Man. We run our musical fun and interactive music sessions for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old every week and It's a fantastic way to make new friends - both for the children and the adults alike! Early exposure to rhythmic sounds can aid language and literacy skills. Moo Music songs have been written in a way in which children can learn about and understand the world around them. Words and actions in certain songs which have associated actions allow children to make connections as and when they begin to read and write. We are the experts in recreational gymnastics teaching and welcome any Club, School or individual to share in our learning resources and training programmes. NRG Training Courses and supporting resources have been developed to address the growing demand for coaching professionals in the sport. This demand is not for high performance coaching, but for a new style of coaching specifically aimed at meeting the needs of recreational gymnasts, which has been growing exponentially in recent years. The demand for gymnastics has increased in Britain by 42% since the 2012 Olympics. This is great news for the sport, but at the same time has highlighted a very real challenge, namely where and how to accommodate all these eager participants. Gymnastics Clubs are overflowing with huge waiting lists, and there are a finite number of purpose-built centres. The NRG Coaching programme has been carefully developed over a number of years to equip sports providers with the knowledge and tools to effectively coach and lead recreational, mixed ability, mixed age gymnastics classes in any number of environments, not just those specifically built for gymnastics. This pathway fully and safely explores the techniques and skills of gymnastics, still allowing able gymnasts to develop to their full potential, but approaches it from a recreational standpoint where fun, and personal challenge are the key objectives. There is no need for specific gymnastic apparatus, simply an open space, and some very basic, generic apparatus, found in most leisure facilities and educational centres. Our courses provide a professional pathway for individuals, and sports providers who are interested in training to deliver recreational gymnastics, and schools, wanting to enhance their delivery of gymnastics in PE.
