The Young Reporter Scheme has been running since 2008 in partnership with Newsquest Media Group. It is a quality programme, delivering lectures and teachings to help mould young people, not only into the world of the media, but also into worthwhile careers for the future. Starting with two pilot schools and a handful of students in South West London, it grew exponentially and since then we have taken thousands of students through the process. Initially, students from the two pilot schools, wrote for The Local Guardian online newspaper but as the scheme grew, we extended the range of titles and now they write for Newsquest’s range of online newspapers throughout the entire of the UK. The scheme is open to Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 and students start their ‘writing career’ uploading articles directly onto the Newsquest websites, within specified deadlines and categories.   What is involved?  • Students sign up for eight months writing one article per month  • ALL articles are published on our online newspapers  • The scheme runs from September through to April of each academic year  • All those completing the scheme receive a written recommendation  • At the end of the scheme, there is a chance to go forward and compete for prizes  • Winners receive an undergraduate day at a London University  • Top thirty-three students attend a Media Award Ceremony  • One student from each age group becomes the face of Young Reporter for the next year   • Students doing Duke of Edinburgh can do the scheme as one of their skills   Costs  There is a minimal administration charge from the school and an additional cost for each student All monies received purely cover the running costs of the scheme, supporting students and mentoring sessions, as we are totally self-funding.

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website and our school. William Edwards is a large, successful, harmonious and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, attending William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes. Juniper Green Tots is a small, family orientated nursery based in Juniper Green, Edinburgh. We offer full and part time places for children aged between 6 months and 5 years. We are governed by the Care Commission, and our staff have been specifically chosen for their commitment to providing quality care for each individual child in our setting. Each member of our team has a recognised childcare qualification. Our staff offer a secure, warm atmosphere where your child can grow and flourish. Each child has a special carer to ensure the care they receive during their time at nursery is tailored to their individual needs. A balance of fun activities including brain gym classes, singing, story time, painting, sticking, baking, construction, sand play, water play and much, much more is provided to encourage and stimulate all aspects of development. Juniper Green Tots is divided into two play areas to accommodate the wide development stage of 0-30 months - our busy messy area where toddlers can enjoy and investigate a wide range of play experiences and a quieter area where our babies can explore and discover in a much calmer atmosphere. Alexandra was born in the USA and spent her formative years in London and Glasgow. Her musical abilities were recognised from a very young age and she began having regular piano and vocal lessons at the age of four. Alexandra had the honour of being the youngest singing student to be accepted at the prestigious Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. Whilst studying there, she benefited from singing lessons, vocal workshops and master-classes with both formidable voice teachers and visiting leading professionals. This early exposure to such a high standard of coaching was a great source of inspiration for an aspiring young soprano. Alexandra was invited to attend the Association Of Teachers Of Singing training course for four consecutive years, which provided her with a solid foundation for developing her own teaching technique which she loves to share in her own teaching lessons. Having always had a special love of Scotland, it seemed to be a natural progression for her to complete her studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow (now known as The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) where Alexandra was awarded her Bachelor of Music with Honours Degree. Now based in Central Scotland and accessible from Falkirk, Stirling, Glasgow amd Edinburgh, Alexandra enjoys working as a freelance singer (soprano) and singing teacher. She is currently delighted to be working with Music in Hospitals and Care (MiHC) with whom she has regular concert engagements and tours.
