Woodworks - Hugh Ridsdill-Smith

woodworks - hugh ridsdill-smith

London

Woodwork and design have been lifelong interests of mine. My introduction to woodwork was with my father in his workshop at home. I studied woodwork, together with metalwork with Ted Mills in Maidstone and had regular lessons from Chris Hoad our local village carpenter in Marden, Kent. Woodwork runs in the family, I inherited my great grandfather’s tools and the workbench – a number of which which I use. I draw inspiration from many sources: the Design Museum is a particular favourite, but skilled work is all around. Recently I took part in a ‘Build a Tiny House’ course at the Centre for Alternative Technology. Their commitment to sustainable living is particularly important for me.I attend courses, exhibitions and trade shows regularly to keep up with the latest trends and developments. I established WoodWorks in September 2016. Our approach is practical, and we put our clients’ priorities first – be they design, practicalilty, affordability, aesthetic or sustainability. Wood is a wonderful material, flexible, strong and incredibly versatile. Most things are possible. If you’ve got a project in mind and want to find out whether and how it will work, I’d be happy to talk it over with you. In September 2020 I established Woodworks Learn, the teaching arm of the business. This was long an ambition of mine, using my background in teaching, coaching and informal community learning. I find immense pleasure helping people to develop their skills and to complete projects.

Chatham

Dream Academy is a Performing Arts School offer classes from 18 months right through to adults. We provide workshop style classes consisting of Singing, Dance and Drama to give a full creative experience for all performing arts students. All students perform a live summer show each year to give our students the platform to present their new found confidence and skills. We are also involved in varying external projects in Kent including; charity events, community fares and much more. Becoming accustom to performing publicly from an early age can combat issues often experienced in later life such as difficulty speaking to strangers on the phone, performing well in job interviews and building new relationships. Dream Academy’s core focus is to improve children’s self-confidence and social skills. We feel that our Performing Arts workshops are the perfect way for your child to develop these personal skills and attributes. As well as being a fulfilling creative outlet for children, we have also found that Performing Arts helps children build friendships more easily, feel more confident with public speaking and also improves children’s reading and writing skills. Performing arts help children learn important life skills. They boost social skills, encouraging children to work with and learn from others. They increase language skills because children are interested in learning more about the arts and how to improve their abilities in the arts. They help children be more tolerant of differences because the arts can immerse them in unfamiliar cultures that span other times and other countries. Most importantly, making and appreciating performing arts spurs curiosity, which helps develop lifelong learners. Horizons for learning as part of the John Hopkins School of Education released a publication showing the following: The Arts are an essential part of public education. From dance and music to theater and the visual arts, the arts give children a unique means of expression, capturing their passions and emotions, and allowing them to explore new ideas, subject matter, and cultures. They bring us joy in every aspect of our lives. Arts education not only enhances students’ understanding of the world around them, but it also broadens their perspective on traditional academics. The arts give us the creativity to express ourselves, while challenging our intellect. The arts integrate life and learning for all students and are integral in the development of the whole person. The Arts communicate and speak to us in ways that teach literacy and enhance our lives. We must continue to find a place for arts programs and partnerships not only for what it teaches students about art, but for what it teaches us all about the world we live in. Whether you are looking for an after school club in Kent for your child, childrens dance classes in Kent, childrens singing classes in Kent or childrens drama classes in Kent, then Dream Academy Performing Arts is the place to be! Contact us to find out more and to discuss our Performing Arts School locations around Kent including; Canterbury, Chatham, Maidstone, Gillingham, Dartford, Sittingbourne and Faversham.

Stow-on-the-wold

Although we employ our innate creativity whilst solving day-to-day problems, consciously engaging in creative activities can not only feel very enjoyable, it can further our knowledge of ourselves and the surrounding world, foster our self-acceptance and self-confidence, can help us slow down and reconnect with our values, so we can adapt quicker in this fast-paced and demanding world.  Artful Mindscape offers workshops that link psychology, neuroscience and art to help reconnect with ourselves in an enjoyable and meaningful way, one that enhances the sense of wellbeing and promotes growth. KARINE GAZARIAN, PHD Karine is the founder of Artful Mindscape and workshop facilitator. Originally from Lithuania, Karine studied psychology in Canada and clinical neuroscience in the UK. She spent over a decade in research labs exploring neuroplasticity of the human brain (the ability of the brain to change) and worked in universities in England, Canada and the United States. She gained her PhD in clinical neuroscience from the Institute of Neurology, University College London. Karine's purpose is to use her knowledge to support people on their journeys towards growth, resilience, meaning and fulfilment. She is a certified, ICF accredited coach and brings many of the coaching tools and knowledge in neuroscience to her workshops in order to create a unique and powerful experience.  Karine lives in the Cotswolds with her partner and children. She loves grooving to jazz, twirling in contemporary dance routines, soaking up the beauty of the hills, or immersing herself in drawing workshops.

London Writing School

london writing school

London Writing School offers online writing workshops designed to offer some inspiration, make you think about the craft of writing and carve out some time in the day to get pen to paper.  Our paid courses allow you develop an idea at your own pace. Who are the workshops for? Perhaps you want to give writing a go but aren’t sure what will happen. Maybe you used to write and want to get back to it. Or you write, but would like more structured inspiration and a practice session. The sessions are designed so that you can make the most of them whatever stage you're at.  What do we do? We usually have a warm up exercise around the theme of the workshop, do a little bit free writing, and then there’s a chance to build a more structured scene that could go on to become a short story, or even spark an idea for a novel. If you are full of ideas we hope to bring them into sharper focus, if you’re feeling a bit creatively empty we aim to fill you up and get you going again.  Do we share work? In the free sessions we don’t read out work or share it with others. Come and experiment with no judgement. About the teacher I've been shortlisted for various awards and schemes including the BBC Writers’ Room, Crime Writers Association Debut Dagger, Theatre 503 seed commissions and the Launch Pad Manuscript Competition. I write in different forms. My work has been on stage in London, audio drama 'The Grove' has thousands of downloads and my novel 'A Company of Roses' is available on Amazon. I have an MA in Screenwriting and a PGCE from Goldsmiths University where my focus was on creativity.
