One of the most exciting and unexplored worlds isn't located out in deep space like so many people believe. This largely unexplored world covers 70% of the surface of our own Earth and is a sustaining factor in our ecosystem. A spacesuit isn't needed to explore the otherworldly forms found beneath the surface, but proper dive gear can extend the stay. The easiest way to feel like you have been transported into another world is to scuba dive. Not only is the imagery alien, but a diver feels weightless as well. Add to this the feeling of carrying the life-support pack dive tank and viewing through dive masks and the diving experience can truly feel out of this world even though the diver may be actually getting closer to their evolutionary roots. Modern dive equipment allows the diver to experience underwater locations with incredible ease and comfort. Though the days of heavy hard to maneuver equipment are still around the trend has been towards more streamlined, sleek and user friendly designs that give the diver a better, less distorted field of view, increased locomotion and maneuverability, and allow longer dive times with less decompression. Even dive watches are becoming capable underwater computers that can calculate a number of dive situations simultaneously. These devices often work in tandem with advanced regulators that can preserve air and warn the diver of some potential dangers. One of the most promising diving developments is the introduction and use of re-breathers as opposed to regular scuba dive tanks. Typically a regulator will dispel the divers exhalation which contains dangerous CO2 as well as beneficial breathing air. This is the cloud of bubbles seen coming from most divers and not only does it scare away fish and other underwater life, but it contains a large amount of useful air. A re-breather uses a closed loop and air scrubbers that remove the CO2 from the loop and store it in cartridges. This is very similar to how the space shuttle recycles air in space. Not only does all the available air get saved for later use, increasing dive times exponentially, but here are no annoying and distracting bubbles blocking anyone's view or scaring away the wildlife. They are silent and surprisingly small, often smaller than two large dive tanks, and come with advanced dive computers and heads up displays. For technical diving, underwater filming, wreck exploration and caving a re-breather is absolutely essential and allows for an unprecedented range of movement coupled with the longest dive times. It is no wonder these are preferred by Navy seals. Swimming with all that equipment can be slow and tedious even with the biggest diving fins which is why an increasing number of divers have begun using diver propulsion vehicles, often called dive scooters. Dive time is limited by the amount of air and exertion quickly uses that available air up even if using a re-breather. The easiest and most fun way to increase dive time is with a strong dive scooter allowing for the best out of this world exploration this side of the moon. I'm sure that a whale would be just as surprised to see a diver for the first time as we would a being from outer space.

We were backstage and you could hear this buzz of expectation from the audience outside. I’d used all the security resources available to put it on and here I was with my actors saying they wouldn’t go through with it” Jo Darby set up Voice in the Room in 2016 but the seeds for the business were planted many years before. As a teenager with a love of acting she attended the National Youth Theatre. “I saw how directors were trying to help us to get the message of the play across and make a connection with the audience. That’s what they facilitated and that was the bit I found really interesting. How do you support people in a really positive way to achieve that? That was the point when I decided I didn’t want to do acting, I wanted to direct. When I later had the opportunity to do that at University, I grabbed it with both hands. Directing was a hobby that became a job.” As a Theatre Director Jo began creating productions in the North East at Northern Stage and the Live Theatre. She went onto launch her own theatre company and travel overseas to direct for the Australian Theatre for Young People before later working at Pilot Theatre Company and Bristol Old Vic. One early experience creating a brand new play with inmates at Northallerton Young Offenders Institute was particularly influential. “I was left on my own with the group to get on with rehearsals when one day things all kicked off, a fight broke out, there were chairs flying, the lot. I never felt threatened. I knew it wasn’t aimed at me and I was able to reassure staff such that we were allowed to continue. I persuaded the governor we should put on the play in front of the whole prison – in the prison chapel. Looking back now this seems unbelievable but it’s true! Just before the play was due to start my group refused to go on. We were backstage and you could hear this buzz of expectation from the audience outside. I’d used all the security resources available to put it on and here I was with my actors saying they wouldn’t go through with it. So I had to give them a big pep talk about how this was their opportunity to be heard and express themselves, remind them that they felt no one ever listened to them and this was their big chance. Eventually, they went out and did it. Everyone cheered and it all turned out fine. I still think now, goodness know’s what would have happened if it hadn’t gone ahead!

This funding represents a deliberate investment of over $180,000 in diverse talent. Reaching out to MSIs and HBCUs to inform them of our Course Development grant and other opportunities, to foster the creation of risk management classes and programs at more educational institutions that serve historically underrepresented groups. The Consortium was formed in 2011 to represent the progressive and outward looking role of nursery schools in the 21st century. We are a partnership of three maintained nursery schools in Haringey with a rich and diverse history of excellent integrated early years practice. Our central aim is to progress our role in leading system improvement in the Early Years in Haringey and beyond. Within our local authority we have established a strong reputation for providing high quality accredited and non-accredited training. This has been enhanced by working in partnership with the Haringey Early Years Team, Pen Green, Derby University, Middlesex University and Barnet and Southgate college. The schools are located in areas with some of the highest levels of deprivation within the borough of Haringey and serve a diverse population representing a rich cultural and ethnic mix. Typically 24 different languages are being spoken at each school and 65% of the pupil cohort have EAL. Each nursery school has an on site Children’s Centre and a key aspect of this work is supporting families onto pathways back into employment. The centres have effective on site volunteer training and placements for families within the community. We have been part of projects to enable and enhance children's learning and development across the curriculum and widened our partnership through collaborative creative projects including link work with Italy. Sweden, Finland & Denmark. We are one of 16 consortiums designated as an Early Years Teaching Centre, by the DfE in 2011, and we continue to develop and promote the training of staff in local early years settings. Staff training and development is associated with higher quality early years provision (Study of Early Education and Development (SEED), 2017) Children who experience high quality early years provision are well placed to achieve higher outcomes at school and develop better social, emotional and cognitive abilities necessary for life-long learning. The Haringey Nursery Schools Training Consortium is a collaboration between Rowland Hill, Woodlands Park and Pembury House Nursery School and Children’s Centres. This partnership was formed in 2010 in order to support young children and practitioners in Early Year’s settings locally and further afield. The Nursery Schools have on-site Children’s Centres and offer fully integrated care and education for families. The combined strength of the nursery schools together with children’s centre services and childcare enables them to offer a wide range of services to children and families. The Nursery Schools have been judged by Ofsted to have outstanding practice and in 2011 were awarded ‘Early Years Teaching Centre’ (EYTC) Status. What is our aim? The Nursery Schools have a reputation for exciting, innovative Early Years expertise, practice and research which we have developed in order to improve outcomes for young children and their families. Through a close, strategic partnership with the Local Authority and a range of other partners, we are able to offer a range of high quality training and development opportunities for those in the Early Years Workforce. This includes staff in Primary Schools, Nursery Schools, Private, Voluntary and Independent Early Years Settings and Childminders. A big thing for me was struggling to identify with my Japanese side. This not only created issues with my relationship with my mum, because of language and cultural barriers, but it also caused my own insecurities and self-doubt. (I am now very proud of my Japanese heritage, but this led to emotions I wasn’t equipped to deal with as a teenager). Because of this, I was often labelled a troublemaker at school. I even got expelled from my lessons just a few weeks before my GSCEs! Despite actually scoring well on the GCSEs, I did manage to spectacularly fail my AS levels. I worked extra hard to get into a good university (the first from both my mum and dad’s family, whoop! You’ve always got to celebrate your wins!), and that is when I started to love education. In my final term of university, I learned that I was in fact dyslexic, rather than just a “trouble-maker.” My teenage years and early adulthood were plagued with severe depression, and I endured battles with an eating disorder that consumed my life for a decade. Then, after getting married, I became a military wife and was so proud of him and felt like such a team… but had to endure having zero contact with my partner for months at a time when he was on deployment. I won’t lie, it was tough being a military wife! My life has been littered with a lot of setbacks (Oh, let’s not forget I also ‘failed’ at being a landlady in my early 20s, as well as a business owning a bar in SE Asia, and did I mention that I lost my job on the same day the offer on our first home got accepted?! All that excitement and build-up, only to have to let it go… It was a lot). So, with all these setbacks, the thing that pushed me through was mindset work and personal development…. And that is what led me to realising knowing what I really wanted to do. I wanted to help others tackle their own setbacks and be the support that I needed and create a life they love. When I started my coaching diploma in 2016, I didn’t look back. I was focused on creating my own life by design, not by default, and was determined to help others do the same But I still had hurdles. I won’t pretend the road to building a successful business I love has been plain sailing… I attempted to start my business in 2019, resulting in a false start (my burnout forced me to prioritise my health and take a break) and my marriage unexpectedly during 2020 when we were all going through the pandemic. So, no, my story isn’t perfect. I’m not perfect. But I know it’s also possible to restart and redefine your life, on your own terms. I learned that a good life doesn’t come from avoiding the bad times, but from learning to overcome them and become better from them. I’m not a product of my past or any situation and neither are you. I had to realise that I still had the power to create the life I wanted – just like you do!

I'm in my local gym, setting up my weights for body pump and a "strange lady" approaches??? Right out of the blue she says "I've been watching you", "I've seen you working hard and I'm looking for ladies to join a ladies crew to row 3000 miles across the Atlantic ocean!". Can I ask you a question???....... Have you ever been approached with a proposal like this? Do you know what is involved in rowing the Atlantic Ocean? Fortunately, a few years earlier, my son returned home one day and announced he was rowing the Atlantic ocean - What????????? I quickly started to get as much information together to understand what was involved so I could support him as much as possible despite knowing the risks (eek!!). Unfortunately, my son's challenge did not happen as planned however, had he not brought the challenge to my attention and had I not researched it, I would not have had the foggiest idea about what was involved in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge (TWAC) and thought this lady was "crazy"!! Strangely enough, I was really excited that this "strange lady" had approached "me"! "I want to break the Guinness world record for the oldest crew of ladies ever to row and ocean" she said. "Wouldn't that be just amazing" I thought to myself?!?!? Now...being 53years old, very near to being able to take flexi retirement, I was frequently asked about when I was retiring like I was well past my sell by date!!! What is it about ladies of a certain age that people seem to think we are "passed it!" After a little thought (not much) I was in! I hadn't got a clue how we were going to raise a minimum of £100,000 plus charity funds to complete the challenge, I couldn't row, I despised the rowing machine in the gym, I disliked deep water because I like to see what's below the surface of the water (thank you very much), plus so many more reasons for not accepting the challenge! "If not you, then who? If not now, then when?" To cut a long story short - you can see from the picture - we did it!!! The details for the trip are being saved for a book, after all everyone has a book within them! What's the point of me sharing this story? Not a lot really?!? I'm a very ordinary person (Mum, Wife, Midwife, Life Coach and Ocean Rower!) who had the privilege of doing something really unusual. I cannot put into words how incredible the experience was. I follow the annual TWAC and am there with the crews in spirit, knowing how exhilarating and frightening it can be out there in a small ocean rowing boat on that amazing ocean. I believe ordinary people can achieve incredible things if they want it and if they really believe in themselves hence, my passion for life coaching. I want to help women achieve those things they only dream of, I want to help women believe in themselves and their body, to gain confidence and empower them to lead a fulfilled life. I want to help women be the best version of themselves and influence their children and their children's children. We only have one life - lets live it!

We were delighted that the school secured the highest possible outcome from the process. Ofsted have concluded that whilst the school continues to offer our children a ‘good’ level of provision, there is sufficient evidence to suggest that the school may be judged outstanding if it received a full Section 5 inspection now. This means Ofsted will return to the school within the next 12-24 months to carry out a full Section 5 inspection.
