Thank you for visiting the St Mary’s School and College website. We are a non-maintained residential special school for children with Speech, Language and Communication needs. St Mary's is based on the south east coast of England in Bexhill, East Sussex and we cater for both residential and day pupils aged 7 to 19. Since 1922, it has been our mission to ensure that children with Speech, Language and Communication needs and additional difficulties receive the integrated support they need to enable them to achieve their potential and take their place in the community. St Mary’s is a total communication environment. This means we utilise a range of approaches that enable our pupils to succeed in their development of their communication skills. All of our staff, including those in non-child facing roles, are trained in sign-supported English. Our staff team provide assistance for parents and carers who wish to learn to sign in order that they can support their child in the home. In addition, we value and proactively invest in communication and learning technologies.

Hello! I'm Michelle and I live in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. I am a qualified teacher who, after 26 years rewarding years, has left the classroom behind her to pursue a passion for all things creative. Through my business, The Art in Martins, I aim to share this with others. In 2007 I attended a Stampin'Up party and fell in love with the products and have used them to create my own cards, gifts and memory books in my spare time. Becoming a demonstrator in 2020 seemed like a perfect step for me. Not only do I get to be creative, I can use my teaching skills when running parties, workshops and classes, offering fresh project ideas and encouragement to my customers and friends. For me, helping someone put together that perfect project for a special occasion is the best feeling in the entire world. After all, creating cards, scrapbook pages, and gift items is about more than just stamps and ink—it’s about sharing a part of yourself with the people you love.

A very warm welcome to our new school website! We really do feel that the video and photographs show the warmth and welcoming nature that is always commented on when we have visitors. We filmed them on the hottest day of the year last summer- uniform became the coolest clothing possible whilst we made the most of the sun (and shade) to share with you what Simonside Primary School is all about. We are extremely proud of our school and the work we do here.
