CoCo has a team of staff and volunteers dedicated to building confidence, self-esteem and support positive lifestyle changes in young people via the conduits of education, sport and culture. Our staff have a background in mentoring and life coaching, project management, social inclusion, vocational training, and sports coaching. Our community based values are manifested in our training activities in the classroom, and our team activities which take place in positive open spaces and parks around Brighton and Hove. CoCo works with a variety of local organisations and stakeholders to achieve its goals and deliver its activities. For example, we work directly with youth clubs, Job Centre Plus, and youth/employment networks (Brighton’s Women’s Centre, the Chamber of Commerce, Brighton and Hove Youth Collective, and The Platform) to engage directly with young people that are interested in career planning, job search, our vocational courses, or sport team building activities. We also have close ties with sports clubs such as Hassocks Tennis Club, Preston Park Tennis Club, Pavilion and Avenue Tennis Club, Preston Panthers FC, Withdean FC and Patcham FC. With these clubs we organise team building events, joint sports days and in house training to develop soft and employability skills via sport. Our team has worked with hundreds of young people across Sussex to provide vocational training, mentoring and employability training. Our reach is growing and in 2017 hope to reach even more young people. Specifically, our qualified staff provide VET courses such as City and Guilds Level 1 Principles of Coaching Sport, Level 1-2 Employability Skills and Level 2 Travel and Tourism Destinations. We also provide Coaching and Mentoring Sessions with a qualified life coach, cultural activities and overseas team sports tours in Europe. Our aim is to support young people not in employment, education or training, aged 18-24, early school leavers now long term unemployed, general unemployed young people, and we place special emphasis on the participation of young women and the more socially excluded members of society. We use our links with local colleges, the local authority, community groups and youth networks to support young people into vocational training, improve their confidence and support them into further vocational training, work experience or employment. For a long time, I worked within the Heritage Sector, leading a Visitor Experience team at several places within the South West, helping to look after special places to leave a leagacy for future generations. In 2014 and 2018 I negotiated returning to my role on a flexible working pattern after being on parental leave twice. I did this through recruiting, training and developing a fantastic team of staff and volunteers to support the visitor operation. Enabling me to lead on the department’s business plan objectives and also lead the visitor experience of a major £3.2 million restoration project. Discovering what I wanted and making it happen In 2020, as a result of the fall out of the Covid pandemic, I took voluntary redundancy. I knew that I wanted to use my people skills in my next career path, so with my warm, calm and empathetic approach and a desire to reach and help far more people, after my own journey of self explorations, I decided I wanted to become a coach! So in 2020, I decided to make it official and went through a rigorous training programme for 11 months, to achieve my diploma and become a certified Personal Devlopment coach with The Coaching Academy. I now use my coaching to help.. -Parents achieve clarity, happiness and fulfilment in life, enabling them to be the shining light for their children, showing them what is possible. - Senior Professionals who have worked in a role for many years and are questioning their next steps and are seeking clarity, direction and professional career transition suppport. Problem solving, teamwork, leadership, and emotional intelligence. Practical skills, knot work, building shelters, modelling sand. Water safety, hazards on the beach, survival, risk assessment. Innovative use of technology such as film making or recording and composing using the sounds of the beach. Numeracy, literacy, science and technology curriculum requirements. Opportunity to go on the water in boats or sit on kayaks or building their own rafts with qualified instructors. This course offers children the opportunity to get to know an environment in different conditions and see it change. They work closely with a beach school leader who has time to develop trusted relationships with the children and respond to both intellectual and emotional needs and offer challenges that inspire deeper learning. This is recommended in the Welsh Government guidance for educational opportunities of this type. A non-profit association of volunteers under the banner of the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre (BAC) was formed on December 7, 1986 under the leadership of Mr. R. Neelakanta Rao Jagdale. Mr. Jagdale has taken keen interest in the activities of the Centre. In the midst of his busy schedule as an industrialist, he has acquired considerable knowledge in the science of swimming training by obtaining certification from the American Swimming coaches Association (ASCA). The association is registered as a society under the Karnataka state societies ACT 1960. The name of the association has been subsequently changed to Basavangudi Aquatic Centre. BAC - 25 Years and Beyond Since December 1986, 25 consecutive state team championship awards. 2451 medals to the Karnataka state at the National-level Swimming Competitions. 285 National records at the National-level Swimming Competitions. 123 medals to the country at International-level swimming competitions by around 120 swimmers. Over 70 medals to the Karnataka state in the National Games conducted at Poona, Bangalore, Manipur, Hyderabad and Guwahati. Three Olympic participants - Nisha Millet (2000), Rehan Poncha (2008). and Gagan Ullalmath (2012) Four Arjun Award winners - Nisha Millet, Abhijith J. Rao, Rehan Poncha, and Prasanth Karmakar Over 23 Ekalavya Award winners. Karnataka Olympic Association Award to the President, Mr. Neelakanta Rao R. Jagdale and head coach, Mr. Pradeep Kumar. Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre (BAC) is one of the few sports clubs in India, which has completed 25 glorious years and takes pride in being the first swimming organization in Karnataka, where the Public-private Partnership took place and is being executed successfully. Today, it provides training using scientific methods to more than 500 swimmers on a regular basis, and over 600 swimmers during the weekend programs. BAC conducts "Learn to Swim” camps during the summer (April and May) and winter (October) seasons to impart basic water safety skills to the children and adults. Over 3000 swimmers aged between 6 to 12 years are taught water safety skills during these camps every year. BAC believes in tapping talented children at young age through their school programs. The Centre is associated with schools in the Basavangudi area and teaches basic swimming skills. The Centre provides well-maintained and hygienically-clean pool to the general public. The swimming pools at the Centre have been acclaimed as the best maintained swimming pools in the country.
