In 2018, I went along to the Potters Bar carnival and despite never having done this type of work before, I decided I wanted to join as a carer after seeing all the information and talking to the staff. I was invited to an interview and the rest is history! The company is great, so friendly and flexible to work for. My typical day consists of checking my rota and visiting my regular clients. Each client is different, with morning visits getting people out of bed and feeding them breakfast, lunch time visits can be more about companionship, with evening visits a time to ensure everyone is ready for bed and happy to settle for the evening. I was so scared of changing jobs after 18 years working in retail, however over the past 12 months I’ve built up some amazing relationships with my clients and I know they are so pleased to see me when I visit them in their home. The company has a real open-door policy - all the carers meet on regular basis, and discuss ideas, improvements, clients and have a general catch up over a cuppa. The role is different every day as you are dealing with people and building trust, but it’s so rewarding and I would thoroughly recommend Wilnash – a great family feel company, who have given me the confidence and skills I need to carry out this role. Wilnash accelerated my training and helped me to qualify for the Care Certificate in under a year - I am so happy having made the change in careers; I am so much more fulfilled than I ever was plus I have more time with my family.

Once they started in full time education, Tracy went back to college and after that there was no stopping her! She achieved the L3 Advanced National Certificate in Floristry, L4 Higher Diploma in Floristry and the Certificate in Education within 5 years whilst running her own retail florist shop in Kent. Tracy then completed the Master Diploma in January 2014; the highest qualification you can receive in the UK with Distinction and also received the highest grade throughout the UK for the practical exam. Furthermore, She also attends numerous CPD courses to ensure she retains her position in the industry. Tracy understands what a vital tool CPD is and has had the opportunity to attend the House of Commons on behalf of Institute for Learning Skills Council to talk about her own subject specialism and how it enhances the industry. Invited to launch Institute of Professional Floristry in the Houses of Commons (2015). Glass has always interested me and I have enjoyed working with glass for many years, repairing and making leaded glass panels and making terrariums as gifts. Lampworking In 2010 I started my journey of lampwork bead making . I love lampworking because of the reactions of the glass that occur when used with varying conditions in the flame and kiln using different types of glass. Beads can be made from a wide variety of glasses that if used together must be compatible with each other, and when worked can come out of the kiln looking totally different. Making sets of beads provides another level of accuracy to achieve. Opening the kiln the next day always brings surprises !! Studio Workshop Now that I have retired, my wife April and I have opened a retail studio workshop in Astwood Bank, Worcestershire. We run lampwork and jewellery making classes/courses which can be organised to suit your requirements. These are bookable on line. The lampwork studio can comfortably accommodate 2 students. I also provide one to one tuition for people wishing to learn individually. Findings along with my lampwork beads are for sale in the shop and I also do lampworking demonstrations, so if you’re interested come along and see me in action. April, (Fuchsia Cottage Crafts) and my daughter Jay (Jays Jewels) are both avid seed beaders and have made some of my beads into beautiful pieces of jewellery – these are on sale in the shop so if you’re passing – pop in, and take a look. Troed y Rhiw is a 23 acre mixed organic farm situated in Ceredigion’s coastal belt, less than two miles from the sea. Established in 2008, it is owned and run by Nathan Richards and Alicia Miller. The farm’s ethos is built around a belief in the necessity of farming sustainably in the 21st century. This means a whole farm holistic approach to food production which starts with the microbial worlds within our soil and encompasses everything from habitat protection and creation, to the role that the farm has within the local community. Along with horticulture production, we also have a small herd of Highland cattle which contribute to the farm’s fertility and provide meat for the family and our customers. We focus on local food, serving our immediate community through a box scheme delivered within thirty miles of the farm, local producer’s markets, and retail outlets such as restaurants and green grocers. Staying local means our food is fresh, mostly picked and sold on the same day, and fresh food is the key to good cooking. The farm supports a range of wildlife. Pipistrelle and Brown Long-eared bats roost in the specially designed bat loft in the roof of our stone dairies. Rabbits, badgers and foxes all live in and around the farm. There is a wide range of bird life living on the farm including Jays, Nuthatches, Blue Tits, Wagtails and other garden birds as well as birds of prey, from Barn Owls and Red Kites to Buzzards which hunt in the surrounding countryside. A Heron regularly visits our pond during the summer months. The farm hosts a colony of bees kept in fourteen hives. A wide variety of butterflies and moths flourish on the farm encouraged by the farm’s diverse habitat and because we don’t use any pesticides.
