The Evolving Project Manager - Past, Present and Future Tom Kasel, 2019 recipient of the Project Management Institute Educational Foundation (PMIEF) Kerzner Award for Excellence in Project Management, presents his perceptions and interpretations of the 'The Evolving Project Manager'. In his session, Tom shares a historical perspective of the project management profession, noting the formation of the Project Management Institute (PMI). He travels a theoretical journey that transcends PMI leadership styles of transactional and transformational leadership perspectives. He continues this discussion by noting the need for additional theoretical migration to Values-Based Leadership-an emerging concept that addresses the cultural, spiritual, political needs and diversity of today's global markets. Tom looks to inspire the PM community with his observations, which have the potential to transition the industry by focusing on universal - individual values, beliefs (The 'Cosmic Core') and practices.

It begins with selection, because when you tell the right story at the right time the results can be transformational. David Hutchens will introduce participants to storytelling through a lens of change management. They will discover the three stories they should be telling now in order to move the system and engage their team in a context of extreme uncertainty. Attendees of this session will: Explore how stories of continuity, novelty, and transition are needs that every organizational system has. If so, join us for this session on developing your 'Leadership Compass' - a roadmap to leading with passion and purpose. It is a highly interactive, reflective process that sets a path to transformational leadership. You will receive navigational direction to support others as you assert your leadership maturity and learn how your thinking and behavior impacts the way you lead others. Identify your leadership foundation Understand value-based leadership and align your actions accordingly Develop, communicate, and leading with a compelling vision Learn how to lead others and build collaboration, teamwork, and trust Regulate the organizational temperature so you and others are motivated to do their best

Building Hyper Performance Scrum Teams: Using Crew Resource Management Techniques from Aviation Have you ever been part of an organization or team where leaders failed to accept input from junior team members and a project or initiative failed? Now imagine being part of a team flying an aircraft where either failing to share information or not acting on critical information in a decisive manner can cause the aircraft you're in to crash. In the Flight Decks of today's aircraft, open communication and the ability to respectfully question authority are essential cognitive and interpersonal skills every crew member must learn so as a team they can mitigate the unforgiving risks inherent in their complex environment. Thirty years ago flight deck culture was entrenched in hierarchical command and control management. This is very similar to the legacy of waterfall command and control leadership styles that is impeding agile transformations around the globe. This and other IIL Learning in Minutes presentations qualify for PDUs. Some titles, such as Agile-related topics may qualify for other continuing education credits such as SEUs, or CEUs. Each professional development activity yields one PDU for one hour spent engaged in the activity. Some limitations apply and can be found in the Ways to Earn PDUs section that discusses PDU activities and associated policies. Fractions of PDUs may also be reported. The smallest increment of a PDU that can be reported is 0.25. This means that if you spent 15 minutes participating in a qualifying PDU activity, you may report 0.25 PDU. If you spend 30 minutes in a qualifying PDU activity, you may report 0.50 PDU.
