I'm willing to bet You're smart and strong and in control of most aspects of your life! You likely have incredible kids and work hard in your chosen career, whether that’s working outside the home, or staying home to raise your children. Everything might look good on the outside — perfect even — but, if you’re reading this, I’m guessing that you (like so many other women) are living with a secret stress and shame, the weight of which is starting to pull you under. YOU’RE MISERABLE IN YOUR MARRIAGE AND YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO. Your husband might tell you that you’re the problem, and you know there are things you could work on, but are you really the whole problem? Isn’t it supposed to be 50/50? Maybe you keep reading about narcissism and you secretly wonder if your husband might be a narcissist. But if he is, then what does that make you? How on earth did you get here? This is all so confusing! I'm Dr Sue Palmer-Conn, aka The Divorce Doctor. I've been working with hundreds of women like you, all over the world, for fifteen years. I've been in your shoes myself I divorced at the age of 50 after a 25-year marriage. My husband was controlling, not physically but emotionally, and borderline narcissistic personality disordered. I was the first of my family and friends to get divorced. I didn't know where to turn. After I divorced, I started a new, very successful, career and alongside that developed a busy practice working with mid-life women thinking about and going through divorce. I am a multi-award-winning divorce coach, whose accolades include 'Global Divorce Coach of the Year'. I now run my own Divorce Coaching Academy training the next generation of divorce coaches.

Teridona School of Dance

teridona school of dance

Est. 1968About In 1968, Terry Farrington had a decision to make. As a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, she was told she was going to have to relocate away from Birmingham. Donna Jones was active in her daughter Paula’s dance studio and good friends with its owner. Terry’s mother convinced the girls into opening a studio and they chose the then eight year old city of Hueytown for the location. Terry had a strong background in dance and theater, while Donna had a strong background in music and voice. With the help of the Baumann family, they opened TeriDona School of Dance in a small building by Baumann Coatings. It soon moved to a location in Caffey Junction then to its current location in Hueytown, Alabama, which was purchased from the Vernon family. For over 50 years, thousands of students have walked through the studio doors. Many went on to use the training they got from TeriDona in performance-related fields, while others simply reminisce on the skills that would help them throughout their lives. One of the original TeriDona dance moms was none other than Jane Roton, whose daughters Paige and Peyton were among the first students. In 1971, Renee Lamar walked through those doors for the first time. Her mom had taken her to another studio for her first year of dance, but she attended a TeriDona Recital and made the decision to move her to that studio. Donna was Renee’s teacher and she immediately was drawn to her. Renee worked as hard as she could for Donna. Renee eventually worked her way into the more advanced classes taught by Terry and solos taught by Paula. The focus was always on the performance and knowing your audience. Being classy and entertaining. Working hard and having fun while doing it. Heather Goolsby showed up in 1997. A transfer from another studio, she was a handful. But she was spunky and funny and actually had talent. She worked her way up from a student teacher to an assistant and then a teacher. Renee and Heather knew they had some large shoes to fill when they took over in 2013. Living up to such a huge legacy has been challenging but one they never lost sight of. Every decision they make takes into consideration what Mrs. Terry and Mrs. Donna would think about it. Today, TeriDona School of Dance rehearses in Hueytown, AL and travels the world to perform in competitions, parades, and performances to showcase the talent of every dancer that steps into the studio.

Plus Size Pregnancy

plus size pregnancy

I’m Laura. Plus Size Mother of two. Advocate for plus size pregnant people and the marginalised. Let’s face it, from your very first midwife appointment, where they ask you what feels like a million questions and then they utter the words “just slip your shoes off and step on the scales for me please” and that’s it. They calculate your BMI and your path of care is decided. You may hear things such as: “You’re going to be put under consultant led care” “I’ll book you in for a GTT now” “You’ll have to have additional growth scans because it’s likely you’re going to have a big baby” “We’ll need to induce you at 40 weeks because of your BMI” All of this is absolute rubbish! After navigating my way through the maternity system as a plus size person twice, I realised that there is not enough support out there for us. There is not enough evidence based information and the information that is out there is hard to find and all over the place! So I created Plus Size Pregnancy so that I can not only teach you a fully comprehensive antenatal hypnobirthing course, but also teach you your rights, how to self-advocate with confidence and how to give birth however and wherever you want on your terms. My aim is for you to finish my course feeling informed, powerful, supported and ready for a positive birth experience. If you are looking for a hypnobirthing instructor who is: Going to be honest with you and tell you the truth about birth Going to teach you about your rights as a plus size pregnant person, how to self-advocate with confidence and how to navigate your way through a complicated and fatphobic maternity health care system Going to be your cheerleader There for you until your baby is born and beyond Teach you how incredible birth can be when you emotionally and physically prepare for it Teach you that being plus size doesn’t mean that you can’t have a straightforward pregnancy and birth and even if you are facing complications, that you still have rights and options Then I’m the instructor for you! I'm not the sort of instructor who is going to be all airy fairy, hippie dippie and wishy washy with you. I'm honest. I'm open. I'll answer every one of your questions even if you think that it might be a silly one. I'll give you all of the information and help you to build your confidence in yourself and your body without any bull.

Wilplan Training

As a carpenter Liverpool has been very good for me within the last few years due to the increase in personalised and customised furniture. However, another carpentry and woodworking service that has been very popular within the last few years especially has been the growing popularity of alcove and walk in wardrobes. Since both types of wardrobe projects are considered luxury and high end for most houses, many home owners are beginning to look for having one of either within their home. As a carpenter, this is one of the most expensive and biggest projects that we complete. It also means that it is a good opportunity to make a decent amount of money, and both the customer and us as a company win with a transaction such as this. I have had the opportunity to take many wardrobe creation projects within the last few years especially, and the demand for the wardrobes are only increasing. Projects like these can cost anywhere from £2,500 – £7,000 depending on the size of the project, especially if you are looking to create a more elaborate walk in closet for example. Some people decide that they want to turn their en-suite bathroom or even a spare bedroom into a walk-in closet if they have a lot of clothes or shoes but no need for the room itself. This isn’t as uncommon as you may believe, due to the amount of families that are deciding to not have children. With the number of gardens in Liverpool, it is also becoming common for many home owners to request the creation and construction of garden furniture such as benches and picnic tables. Many times, they want the furniture to be created from either a specific timber, or they want a specific carving or engraving within the furniture itself. This is more common with something such as a picnic table, where customers want what they would consider a posh picnic table. Other times, some customers are more artistic and just want a carving or engraved pattern within the table itself. This itself is an enjoyable project for carpenters, as it is rare to create something that others would consider a piece of art rather than just furniture. Thank you for reading today’s post. Tomorrow I want to discuss a bit more about the industry of carpentry over the last few years, especially within the city of Liverpool rather than for the residential areas. I hope you enjoyed the post, and make sure to check out some of the other posts within the last week or so!

New Life Horse Care Sanctuary

Hope is a belief that something will change for the better. This remains a solid mandate, and many people over the years can testify that their lives have changed when having the opportunity to be with horses. We look after horses, who through no fault of their own, require specialist care and attention. These include foals fostered from the Friends of the Dartmoor Hill Ponies Society. People who attend NLHCS with a range of mental and physical health issues, find comfort in the presence of these foals, who in turn benefit from being handled and loved. We provide art on prescription schemes at the sanctuary where people are welcome to participate in weekly workshops. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. These schemes enable those experiencing declining physical ability, chronic pain, carer stress, anxiety, depression and bereavement the opportunity to be involved in the arts. (see Art for Health and Wellbeing). New Life Horse Care Sanctuary achieved charity status in 2014 (Reg no. 1165384), and all donations are gratefully received. You can donate using the Paypal button, or alternatively you can donate by cheque or BACS, please contact us for details. 2021 Year in Review ART2HEART has kept going through 3 lockdowns providing funded Covid safe art tuition and therapy, support and friendship. We have a new group ART2HEART Stronger Together for people who for whatever reason cannot attend the Sanctuary, those who are shielding, self isolating etc who can post their art work and receive tuition by phone, messenger and WhatsApp. We are also providing tuition for those who want to send artwork in the post. It took a long time for the herd to settle after the death of Patriarch Obe, however Fleur stepped into his shoes and is now the lead mare. Surprisingly Mattie and Fleur have become friends and Mattie has got used to being without his sparring partner. So much so, that Elsa was very much on her own and therefore we have recently adopted another small pony from Cornwall. Tinkerbell arrived a couple of weeks ago, she is a 3 year old Dartmoor Hilly and has quickly found her place A number of people have attended the Way of The Horse sessions with trainer Heather Seems and have been able to observe first hand how an ex racehorse is rehabilitated. Fleur is changing week by week as she overcomes her anxiety and coping habits. She is very quiet and loving. All on all its been a very positive year and we take this opportunity to wish all our followers a very Happy New Year. Jackie Tye Manager

Melissa Liversedge Yoga

melissa liversedge yoga

I first became aware of yoga as a child. My grandmother used to tell me to practise ‘yoga breathing’ (long, slow inhalations and exhalations) if I ever felt worried or unwell. She swore by the benefits of yoga, both physically and mentally, and although I never actually saw her practise a single pose, I considered her to be the ultimate yoga guru! After University, I worked in the City as a stockbroker, at which point I officially started going to yoga classes, seeking a counter balance to the busy lifestyle I was living. I went to all sorts of different classes - whatever the gym had on offer and whatever I could find locally: flow yoga, power yoga, bikram yoga, sivananda yoga. I soon realised that yoga could be quite a different experience depending on the type and the teacher. I had the good fortune of meeting a Japanese colleague who swore by the benefits of Iyengar Yoga. She introduced me to a senior Iyengar teacher, Maxine Tobias, who completely transformed my experience of yoga. She had spent many years under the guidance of BKS Iyengar himself and was very inspirational. I was amazed how the Iyengar method gives you a deep understanding of your own body, its strengths and its weaknesses. Although the classes looked easier, and you got to use belts and blocks, actually I found them the most challenging. Furthermore, the classes were full of real people: all ages, shapes and sizes. Each person came to understand their limitations and their strengths and were on their own journey. It wasn’t about the gymnastics of the poses, it was about the relationship between the body and the mind. After several years of practice, I applied to do my teacher training course in 2005, but then found out I was pregnant. Life and babies took over, so it was only after another 10 years and a new life in Hampshire, I felt I was ready to reapply to train as an Iyengar Teacher. The training course was long and challenging, as it should be when you are dealing with other people’s bodies, but I was lucky enough to have one of the best and most experienced teachers living nearby, Judith Jones, who pushed and encouraged me to aim for precision and quality of teaching. Judith has spent many years visiting Pune and the Iyengar family, and has always been heavily involved with the Iyengar Yoga Association UK. She is truly remarkable and continues to be a great inspiration & mentor. I am currently preparing for the next level of qualification within the Iyengar Yoga system and hope to continue my yoga journey for as long as I am able. I have a great husband, 3 kids, 2 dogs, and a fish called Martin. I like the sea, travel, fashion, shoes and people. Family is the most important thing to me.

Kathryn Parsons

I live on the edge of the Cambridgeshire Fens for many years, right between the flat fenlands to the east and the first gently rolling hills to the west. It’s a fascinating place, immensely rich in history and with many nationally important nature reserves. Kathryn Parsons My work flows from my love of nature, small details and place combined with a life-long delight in exploring craft techniques. It’s an adventure driven by curiosity and a desire to seek out and share some of the fascinating stories of this amazing planet and the people who’ve lived here… because stories help us connect with places and each other, which is good for humans! And feeling connected also means we’re more likely to cherish and protect biodiversity and heritage. My deep grief for the damage that the natural world is sustaining adds drive and reason. Found in the Fields, detail As I spend time getting to know a place, delving in to archives and talking with people who know it best, I search for stories that capture my attention and which I think will fascinate others too. I intentionally allow space for discoveries to guide the final outcomes, and select materials and techniques that best tell the story. Sharing the research and exploration via social media draws others in to the adventure, and so the stories gently ripple out… the land is "re-storied" and people's connections with place and nature are strengthened and enriched. Kathryn Parsons Handcrafts and simple tools are at the heart of my work. I've always loved exploring what I can make different materials and processes do, right from a very young age. To me it's an exciting, fascinating adventure! And so I use a wide variety of processes and materials, depending on what best communicates the story... from eco-printed poems and sugar shoes to photography and mixed media sculptures. To reduce the environmental impact of my work I often use old or natural objects. And in very small quantities I use porcelain too, because for me it speaks deeply of the beauty, fragility and strength of the natural world. Much of my work is created to be displayed as temporary interventions in the place that it speaks about... adding richness and something new to see, while offering new ways for visitors to respond and engage. Kathryn Parsons My first career was in teaching, in primary, further and adult education - including teaching sugarcraft and competing in international sugarcraft competitions! Gradually I learned to listen to my heart, and follow its desire to use my creativity and love of learning to share fascinating stories of nature and place. I delight in nurturing the creativity of others and sharing my adventures through writing, workshops, demonstrations and talks. In 2022, I launched NatureCraft online mini workshops - a space to connect with nature, creativity and other nature-loving people from across the globe. Exhibitions, Residencies and Site-Specific Artworks I have exhibited at The National Centre for Craft & Design (solo and group exhibition), and created site-specific artworks for Burghley House, University of Leicester, John Clare Trust, Derby Museum’s porcelain gallery and on nature reserves. In 2012 one of my artworks was selected for “Inspired by…” exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. See C.V. for more details. Currently I am Artist in Residence with Langdyke Countryside Trust, a wildlife conservation and heritage charity. I tell the stories of local volunteers and the places, wildlife and heritage that they work to protect. About Alice Leahy Trust TRUST was founded in 1975, and this year we are 35 years working people who are homeless in Dublin. TRUST is a non-political, non-denominational voluntary body set up in 1975 as a private charitable trust (Charity No.CHY7014) to provide medical and related services for people who are homeless. We work in premises provided at a nominal rent by the Iveagh Trust. Between 30 and 40 men and women call each morning, the majority of whom are sleeping out (age 18 to 85). We see new people daily and often have people calling who were housed – settled- and become homeless again. Washing facilities are available and each month we give out in excess of 500 outfits of clothing to people who are homeless as part of our total health service. Members of the public, Rotary and church groups donate the clothes and shoes. Developing a Sense of Self-Worth We encourage and help people who come to us to avail of statutory services and to obtain their entitlements; to place a value on themselves; to develop a sense of self esteem and avoid dependence on private charity. “When we first entered TRUST on the Monday at the beginning of the week Alice asked us if we could ever see ourselves homeless and straight away we answered “No”. But now after all we’ve experienced and seen I now realise there is only a very, very fine line between having a home and being homeless. Homelessness is not just being houseless -it’s about not feeling wanted or belonging somewhere. Society has an awful opinion of homeless people as drunks, down and outs -whereas they are only human beings like the rest of us who just couldn’t keep up in the rat race. We met some very well spoken people -teachers who couldn’t get jobs, doctors who couldn’t “make it”. They become so institutionalised that they will not move out of a hostel. Before, I would have been anxious or afraid to approach a homeless person on the street but now I know that they would be happy to have someone to talk to. I also never realised all the organisations and people who devote and have spent most of their life working with the homeless” Extract from diary of student nurse on placement. Helping to Create a Society where Everyone is Important We see a major part of our work is in the field of advocacy or promoting more awareness of the outsiders amongst us, and the creation of this web site and our Transition Year Project and Essay Competition grew directly out of that commitment. We are a relatively small agency but through our work we have gained valuable insights and using our experience we try in different ways to bring that into the wider community and seek to effect change. For example, we have been intensely involved in prison and psychiatric work since the beginning of Trust. In 1998, Trust Director Alice Leahy was invited to join the National Crime Forum. Trust is on the Consultative Board of the Homeless Initiative and is involved in on-going training of specialist groups. We make submissions in response to requests from government agencies and are involved in relevant research on the issues relating to homelessness. Trust feels that some agencies involved with people who are homeless may not respect everybody’s right to the confidential use and storage of information. Some people who are homeless feel pressurised to take part in research into homelessness in case they may lose their hostel bed or their entitlements. Trust only participates in research when we believe the research design is sound, ethical and likely to provide useful information. “I was most impressed by your service. The bright coloured walls and wooden floors were warm and welcoming, and mirrored the bright cheerful staff who welcomed me… I was particularly impressed by the pictures on the wall, which captured the sensitive nature of the people who use your service and speaks of a place where everyone is accepted just as they are. Those pictures tell me that every life is a work of art. I felt I was in a solid, comfortable place and ordinary enough to feel at home.” Letter from Dr. Kieran McKeown,Social & Economic Research Consultant after a visit to TRUST
