It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website and our school. William Edwards is a large, successful, harmonious and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, attending William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes. We firmly believe that your school days should be the best days of your life and that schools have a moral purpose to extend the life experiences of their pupils. That is why we boast the largest Duke of Edinburgh cohort of any school in the East of England and are one of only a very small number of secondary schools nationally to hold both the Artsmark Platinum Award and the Youth Sports Trust Gold Award for our work in these diverse fields. We were delighted that our last inspection report noted that “pupils who spoke to inspectors were effusive about their experience in school” and that “the breadth of curriculum opportunities available at the school is a real ‘gem’ in the school’s offer to its pupils”. The school is a proud founding member of the South West Essex Community Education Trust which runs three secondary schools and three primary schools across Thurrock and the London Borough of Havering. We were delighted that our last Ofsted inspection captured our considerable strengths in teaching, pastoral care, behaviour, pupil support and curriculum. We are pleased that these ‘cornerstones’ of high quality education remain strong at the school.

The Sapientia Education Trust (SET) was established in 2016 with the purpose of bringing like-minded schools together to work in partnership to deliver a world class education to pupils in Norfolk and Suffolk. The term Sapientia comes from the motto of the founding school, Wymondham College, and means wisdom. Our work is cross-phase and involves a strong commitment to staff development and on-going training for all staff in our schools. We believe that collaboration and partnership work helps raise standards and we work with a range of schools within and beyond our Trust. The Manchester Chinese Education Cultural Community Centre was established in 1979. There are 4 sections: Chinese Music, Martial Arts, Culture and The Chinese School. We have performed Chinese Music, Martial Arts, and Cultural plays and dances to the public many times. We are a non-profit making, non-political and non-religious body. The number of our pupils has been increasing steadily to over 300. In 1998 our school registered as a GCSE and GCE A-level examinations centre. Our school is governed by the school committee and managed by the headmistress and staff. All are volunteers. We depend on fees, fund-raising, donations and grants to finance our school. We aim to provide an opportunity to anybody who wishes to study Chinese Language, Culture, Geography and History, enabling them to appreciate our motto: "Chinese moral righteousness and manners". We also invite specialist artists from the UK and abroad to demonstrate Chinese Music, Arts and Crafts to stimulate the pupil's interest in Chinese Culture. On behalf of the centre committee I would like to thank you for your support and generous donations. We are very grateful to the headmistress and staff for sacrificing their valuable time to run the school. We would also like to praise and encourage our pupils in their excellent work.
