Westfield School is smaller than most: there are currently just over 60 learners on roll, between the ages of 2 and 19. This number varies year on year. The school dates from the early 1970's, but the buildings and grounds have undergone considerable improvement over the years, and now feature six class bases, two sensory areas, a specialist food technology room, therapy room, multi-purpose hall and sensory garden. Other facilities such as hydrotherapy and RDA are accessed via alternative providers. Our playground is divided into four distinct areas to enable different activities to take place with no effect on young people requiring ‘quiet time’. We regard playtimes as an extension of the curriculum and different activities are offered on different days, which enables learning to continue throughout leisure activities. It is a great feeling to witness four of the ECM outcomes happening every time you look out of the window: no-one has yet managed to achieve economic well-being out there!

Our current priorities in school include a focus on wellbeing, particularly mental health for both staff and pupils. The development of a curriculum intent that ensures all pupils are able to develop their knowledge and passions is taking place within all subject areas in school. During the seven years our pupils are with us they are given the skills and access to opportunities needed to make the next steps in to their adult lives. As a school we are never quite satisfied and build ongoing self-evaluation in to the school calendar to allow us to constantly review and reflect on our practice in order to improve. Alder Grangers are rightly proud of their school and our often repeated phrase, ‘once an Alder Granger always an Alder Granger,’ reflects the strength of feeling our young people have for their school. I have been a member of staff at Alder Grange since 1998 and I feel immensely proud and privileged to be Headteacher. As you may (or may not) know, earlier this year (2022), I made the challenging decision to 'retire' Healthy Muslimah in a bid to 'practice what I preach' - namely, "simplification", knowing that by trying to manage multiple platforms, I was spread thin and not able to serve anyone to the best of my ability. Alhamdullilah, I have fully transitioned to a single focus and single platform, Finding Sakeenah - A Journey to Tranquility Through Simplicity, helping sisters navigate the noise of this modern world, reduce overwhelm and make space for change, one small and simple step at a time, closing one chapter so that I could open another. Krystal Roney-Smith APRN, MSN FNP Master Trainer, Owner Krystal Roney-Smith, M.S.N., RN, FNP-C, earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas School of Nursing at Tyler in 2004, and received a Master of Science in Nursing, graduating as a Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society member from Prairie View A&M University School of Nursing in Houston in 2015. She has been drawn to healthcare since childhood and became a nurse because she loved taking care of people. After 11 years of being a nurse in women’s services, Krystal decided she wanted to have a closer interaction with the community and earned a Master of Science in Nursing and became a nurse practitioner at Memorial Hermann Health System. It was after one year of working as a Family Nurse Practitioner she decided that she wanted to take a step further and started teaching as a professor at Chamberlain University. She was then trained by a board-certified plastic surgeon and learned aesthetics. Medical Aesthetics Education was developed after she encountered so many healthcare professionals struggling to get into the industry. She wanted to bridge the gap with her knowledge and injecting expertise. Also, she wanted to empower new injectors to get better at their skill with a mentorship program, which is not offered after most training courses. Krystal enjoys working as a nurse practitioner injector and training others to become the best. She is a perfectionist when it comes to her clients getting the best results. She considers her skills a form of artistry to enhance natural beauty. Krystal states that the biggest advantage of her role is the instant gratification, she takes pride in the boost of confidence that her clients receive. Recently, she has successfully launched her own full-scale spa, Lush RX, located in the Greater Area of Houston, Texas. She is excited to share her knowledge and help others become their best selves and possible entrepreneurs.
