Situated in the heart of the community of Driffield, we are a unique and special place to learn. ‘Learning for Life’ is the foundation of all we do at Kings Mill and underpins our whole curriculum from Early Years through to Sixth form. The school caters for pupils aged 2-19 years. We are on two sites. The main school site houses Early Years through to Key Stage 4. The school was completed in May 2017 and has been purpose built to meet the needs of our pupils. Alongside eleven new classrooms we also have a new hydrotherapy pool, rebound room, sensory therapy room and sensory rooms. Students aged 16-19 are based at The Kings Mill Student Centre which is based at Driffield Secondary School approximately a mile away from the main site. This comprises three classrooms and a combined common room and food technology area. There is also opportunity for joint working with Driffield School. Our sixth form students also visit main site to access the facilities as required. All our pupils and students have complex needs and we offer specialist provision for pupils on the autistic spectrum and pupils with multi-sensory needs. Our curriculum principles and ethos are supported by a wide range of activities which happen on and off site. Sport plays a very important role in the life of the school and we believe in encouraging healthy competition and leadership skills. The school has enjoyed great success in local, regional and national sporting events. Please take time to browse our website which we hope will introduce you to our school and ethos. The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) is a networking community that assists local authorities who are striving to improve their frontline services. APSE works with more than 250 local authorities across the UK to advise and share information and expertise on a broad range of frontline public services. These councils are supported by a team of experts, who draw upon a wealth of knowledge in areas such as policy and practice, as well as in vital frontline service areas. Members of APSE have access to many excellent benefits that help local authorities to grow. These include regular briefings on the latest policy developments and operational issues, access to groups and forums that allow authorities to come together to share information and collaborate, and the ability to anonymously ask for - and give - advice on a range of service issues. One of the most important benefits APSE membership offers is the opportunity for local authority service providers to have their views voiced and represented at a national level. APSE carefully develops this voice by collaborating with members, and supports it using research, extensive campaigns and consistent media activities. APSE conducts research, publishes reports, and campaigns to create a positive role for local government, helping them to deliver high quality, effective and efficient public services. APSE's targeted training programme, regular briefings and inclusive events strive to keep council officers and elected members constantly updated on the latest public service issues. There is also APSE Solutions, an in-house team that works closely with individual authorities, offering high quality consultancy and interim management support for members and other relevant organisations. APSE has also developed the innovative Performance Networks service, which is the largest national voluntary local government benchmarking service. APSE is here to help local authorities and endeavours to do everything possible to help them achieve excellence in their frontline service

The Rochester Grammar School

the rochester grammar school

Kent

The Rochester Grammar School is a high-performing secondary which is part of the TSA Trust where diversity is celebrated as we create a safe and inspiring place for children to learn; where their rights are respected and they are able to develop their talents and abilities to their full potential. We started our RRSA journey in September 2021 and have achieved the Bronze Right Respecting School Award (RRSA) and are now working towards achieving our Silver Award. The RRSA (Rights Respecting Schools Award) is awarded by Unicef. Unicef is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential. The Award recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s planning, policies and practice. All children are taught about their rights at the Rochester Grammar School. Rights are the focus each week during form time with key discussion points and reflections activities. We also have a steering group where children come together to discuss their Rights. We celebrate our diversity as a school community as we endeavour to develop young people who are fully cognisant of their rights whilst respecting the rights of all members of our school community. As we work towards the SILVER accreditation we have: Weekly form assemblies where students use RRSA’s resources to explore the articles from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. These are linked to mental health, online safety, identity or equality and other topics. Planned for each form to create their own Form Charter that encourages children to behave in a 'rights respecting' manner. Established a 'Steering Group' of adults and children who help to drive the programme across the school. This captures the voice of the child and adds to the important jobs our Student Leaders already do. Undertaken staff CPD to secure a commitment from the whole staff to the principles of the RRSA and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Conducted a planning review: We are in the process of reviewing the KS3 curriculum to embed issues and themes of the UN Convention across our subject areas so that the children visit and revisit important concepts throughout their learning journey.

Chickenshed Theatre Company

chickenshed theatre company

London

We've been making pioneering, beautiful and inclusive theatre for over 40 years. And we're just getting started... Chickenshed is an inclusive theatre company that first began in 1974. Primarily based at our own purpose-built venue in North London, we create theatre for all ages and run successful outreach projects, education courses and membership programmes throughout the year. We are also a registered charity and rely heavily on the generous support of individuals, companies, trusts and foundations in order to continue our pioneering work. Performance Entertaining and thought-provoking Performance is at the heart of everything that we do, and brings together all aspects of the company. Our work uses the stage to celebrate diversity and performance as a vehicle to communicate with audiences and tackle topical social issues. We regularly present original and entertaining productions for young children, families and adults. We also create new work, inspired by the people around us, about personal and social issues that affect society today which we then take on tour to theatres, community centres and schools across the UK. You can visit our What's On section, to see our upcoming shows and events. Education Because everyone has a right Chickenshed changes lives by bringing young people from all social and economic backgrounds, cultures and abilities together to study creatively alongside each other, many of whom have been marginalised by society and excluded from mainstream educational settings. We welcome over 200 students onto our Level 3, Foundation Degree and BA courses every year. 66% of students would not otherwise have the opportunity to study, yet 95% of these same students achieve a nationally recognised qualification at Chickenshed. Participation Celebrating diversity We believe that every person who joins our company positively changes the way that we work. We work to every individual's strengths, finding the creative environment that will enable them to flourish. We hold weekly workshops for over 900 children and young people - providing them with a safe and rewarding environment where they can gain a new-found confidence and have the chance to regularly perform in major in-house productions. Outreach Targeting those who are difficult to reach Chickenshed has established a network of partners that enables us to effectively target children and young people who would otherwise not be able to access our work. We regularly take our inclusive outreach model on the road, delivering over 15 projects and benefiting over 15,000 young people every year in venues ranging from primary schools and young offender centres, to mainstream and special schools. Our work engages and educates young people about relevant social issues through the power of performance and active participation in workshops. ‘You must do the show in my primary school because that is when everything bad starts.' 13-year-old boy from a school in London. We also run Shedlink - an ongoing project that enables us to help community groups set up independent 'Sheds' around the UK (and two in Russia!) so that more people can benefit from our ethos and teaching style. Chickenshed Kensington & Chelsea Expanding our work to meet growing need In 2011, we launched our branch in Kensington & Chelsea to bring our work to an area of London polarised between rich and poor. This will ensure even more children and young people can experience the importance of being included and valued; not segregated or rejected. 50% of children in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea attend independent schools, yet 42% of children in the Borough are from low income families. Young Creators Vocational training programme Young Creators is a professional development programme which launched in 2013, providing young people with access to training and practical work experience in a variety of theatre skills. The programme provides a platform which teaches young people creative skills and arms them with the necessary tools to further their professional development. Each year, up to 165 Young Creators can benefit from the programme
