Westfield School is smaller than most: there are currently just over 60 learners on roll, between the ages of 2 and 19. This number varies year on year. The school dates from the early 1970's, but the buildings and grounds have undergone considerable improvement over the years, and now feature six class bases, two sensory areas, a specialist food technology room, therapy room, multi-purpose hall and sensory garden. Other facilities such as hydrotherapy and RDA are accessed via alternative providers. Our playground is divided into four distinct areas to enable different activities to take place with no effect on young people requiring ‘quiet time’. We regard playtimes as an extension of the curriculum and different activities are offered on different days, which enables learning to continue throughout leisure activities. It is a great feeling to witness four of the ECM outcomes happening every time you look out of the window: no-one has yet managed to achieve economic well-being out there!

We are part of Portsmouth City Councils Employment, Learning and Skills service. We are fully externally funded with the main source of funding being the contribution which comes through our contract with the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) which we seek to supplement though other sources, such as The Good Things Foundations UK Online Centres. This means that we are able to provide certain courses free of charge, others at heavily subsidised rates and offer reduced fees for those on means tested benefits – see our Curriculum Strategy and Fees Policy for more information. We operate from our purpose built centre; The Learning Place, 6 Derby Road, North End, in Nelson ward and you are welcome to drop-in and see us to find out more. The centre core opening times are 9.00 – 16.30 Monday to Thursday, and to 15.45 Fridays. Our aim is to provide high quality learning experiences for adults living and working in and around Portsmouth. All teaching staff are trained to teach adults, with appropriate additional subject specialism qualifications and are required to complete annual training / professional development. We understand that for some, learning supports leisure and for others it builds capacity and skills, enabling them to get back to work, take a greater role in their community or better support their childrens learning. We therefore try to provide a responsive programme which maximises access to community learning for adults, bringing new opportunities and improving lives, whatever people’s circumstances, such as: Qualification based courses supporting readiness to work / employability including: Functional Skills English, maths and ICT from entry levels up to level 2 Food Safety in Catering Apprenticeships for those aged 16+ New accredited courses are being run regularly. See the accredited courses tab for more information Community Learning programmes including: Computers and internet Family Learning and Parenting, including English and maths Community / non-accredited ESOL Introduction to Functional Skills English and maths Arts and Crafts Cookery Health and Wellbeing (e.g. confidence building, relaxation and stress busting) Improve Your Skills (e.g. CV Writing, Employability Support) If you are not able to find a course you are looking for on our website do please get in touch with us. The programme is subject to change and some courses with certain eligibility requirements are not always advertised on our website. We only have a limited budget but we do look to prioritise its use to meet identified demand, so tell us what you would like to learn and why! Many of our programmes can also be delivered in a range of venues, so if you represent a community or organisation and are interested in hosting some courses, let us know that too! In addition to the courses we deliver, a small proportion of our funding is allocated to enable quality contracted providers to be engaged, through a robust procurement process, resulting in a broader community reach. In 2021/22 our current key areas for development are: Work readiness, pre-employment skills including increased business / employer links internally and externally, to particularly support the ongoing development of Apprenticeship programmes. Digital inclusion: continuing to offer IT provision and seeking to use innovative solutions to support those who remain digitally excluded to engage with computers and the internet Health and Wellbeing: further developing the increasingly well documented links between learning, health and wellbeing. Qualifications I am a Level 3 First Aid & Defibrillation Instructor. I also have a Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF) and can teach the full range of Ofqual (The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) regulated Level 2 and Level 3 Awards in a range of First Aid qualifications. My Background I have worked for over 10 years in the leisure industry as a lifeguard, duty manager and swimming teacher. Between 2009 and 2011 I lived in New Zealand and worked as a team building instructor running educational school programmes and corporate days. I instructed climbing, archery and many other activities. I also designed educational climbing programmes promoting road safety that I delivered in schools working along side the New Zealand Police and Ambulance Services. In 2012 I joined Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and work as a retained firefighter in Okehampton. I have gained many qualifications and experiences with this role and am trained as a casualty carer. It was 2015 when I gained a first aid instructor's qualification. I wanted to run courses locally and make them accessible for businesses and individuals. I am passionate about training and promoting the need for first aid at work and within communities. I am a practical person and endeavour to make my courses as interactive and hands on as possible. In 2017 I helped form a new charity to equip Okehampton with 8 Public Access Defibrillators. Oke PADs is an organisation that will maintain and provide training free of charge to the community.

My Name is Monika Bammi and I am the proud owner of this business. Since I was a child I have always had a passion for helping people, I would help the kids in the street and elderly people where I lived and then when I grew up and married I studied and practised Reiki on people with the hope and prayer that the Universe would work its unimaginable power through me for the good of all. I studied reiki in India as well as in the U.K. over twenty years ago. Fast forward to present day and I’m now in a profession that does exactly what I have always hoped for. I have been blessed with the opportunity to pass on the healing and my life experience in helping others, to overcome their problems and issues and find the work-life balance that we have been searching for years. My Reiki and healing centre is based in Saks within the David Lloyd leisure centre in Moortown, Leeds. I am glad to say I have had many glowing referrals from people who have benefitted from this mysterious healing. I have had clients both rich and famous (no names) and I have had non-believers, all have felt the benefits and it has gone on to change their lives for the better. As well as Reiki, I do other treatments such as Life Coaching, NLP, Hopi Ear candles, Massage, Reflexology, Indian head massage. A Bespoke Course The course is exclusively aimed at learners with Education, Health and Care Plans. 1 Year Programme The programme will run for 15 hours a week over 3 days and transitions young people into further education or prepares them for the workplace. A Range of Modules The mandatory modules include progression routes which focus on preparing for further study or employment. There is an extensive range of optional modules should a person want to expand their knowledge in a specific area. Functional Skills We offer separate qualifications in both Maths and English ranging from Entry Level 1 up to Level 2. The qualification helps to prepare people for further learning or develop their knowledge and skills in a work-related subject. Functional Skills English and Maths qualifications included where needed, levels from Entry 1 to Level 2. Bespoke course delivered within a small group setting based on preparing to transition for the following academic year. Therapy Services – Symbol has one of the largest teams of Speech and Language Therapists in the UK offering specialist assessment, intervention, training and consultancy for children and adults with special needs. In addition, Symbol also employs Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Behavioural Therapists and Nurses in its Family Assessment Services. Symbol is increasingly deploying expertise from these valuable in-house therapeutic resources across all its activities giving Symbol a unique offer to the people who use and buy its services. Family Assessment Centre & Community Support – Symbol operates up to 10 places for parents with learning disabilities undertaking a parenting assessment and intervention service (Commissioned by the Family Law Courts and Local Authority Children’s Services) and provides 9 families with longer-term specialist parenting support in the community post-assessment. Day Opportunities (The Hopyard Services) – Symbol supports 54 people with learning disabilities in a range of meaningful activities to promote skills in work, learning and leisure operating out of 2 separate sites in Kent. Supported Living – Symbol currently supports 50 people with learning disabilities living in 15 different ordinary houses where they live as tenants. This service is growing rapidly in response to local demand. Short Breaks/Respite Care – Symbol is working with 35 young people and adults providing regular short breaks. The demand for this service is also growing. We have the facility to support up to 13 people at any one time. Community Support – Symbol supports 8 people living in their own homes on a peripatetic basis.

Discover our trades and industries including dyeing, explosives, pharmaceuticals and electronics. Kids (and adults) will love the hands on interactives which include make your own medicine, design your own banner, and even a smelling interactive. In this gallery visitors can learn about the Linlithgow Marches, sports and leisure, politics, education and so much more. Key objects include Tam Dalyell's typewriter, our Waldie digital interactive and the hugely impressive Scotch Brigade banners. Our flexible space for activities, talks and film screenings. Check out what’s on. The space is available for use by local groups and currently featuring a display of historic costumed dolls, and an exhibition celebrating 200 years of the Union Canal. Our dedicated team of volunteers have played a critical role in delivering an ambitious activity plan. Since moving to Tam Dalyell House, volunteers have contributed over 4,000 hours of their time. They have researched, documented, conserved and photographed the collection, conducted oral history interviews, taken part in archaeology digs, planned school sessions and developed activities for young people. We've run an animation project with St Josephs and Low Port Primary Schools. Bridgend Primary co-curated our first community exhibition. Springfield, Linlithgow and Linlithgow Bridge Primary Schools have delivered drama and song writing performances in the museum. We’ve delivered reminiscence, oral history programmes, community film showings and much, much more.
