Meriden Coventry

The business first operated from premises in the small village of Knowle in Solihull but moved into larger premises in July 2012 to accommodate the larger tile projects that they were being requested to supply. The showroom offers and extensive range of unique and innovative collections on display, with access to thousands of samples. The showroom offers modern meeting spaces and a state of the art office space all under one roof. We can provide onsite CPD training and various types of technical testing. The directors are supported in their day to day business operations by an experienced and talented back office team who cover administration, warehousing, finance and sales. They are currently looking to further expand this team in order to manage the additional demand and retain their reputation for excellent customer service, something with which they have become known for. The company is particularly proud of the clients that they have accumulated over the years who include many household names both in the UK and abroad. Over the past four years the company has also exhibited at shows such as 100% Design and Surface while featuring in FX Magazine and IDFX Magazine as well as being members of the TTA. The Directors have visited Cersaie in Italy each year since the company’s inception to meet with suppliers and further cement their relationships guaranteeing their clients access to the latest and most technologically advanced tile ranges. Allison Maxwell

London

Allison Maxwell was first introduced to the great benefits of yoga 26 years ago while studying at university. She was pretty hyperactive, had frequent headaches and difficulty sleeping. A friend suggested she should try yoga, so they both joined the local College of Further Education class in Oxford. After just one course Allison was hooked and made it her priority to get to her weekly yoga class. Since then Allison has tried just about every type of yoga on offer and since qualifying as a teacher some 15 years ago has developed her own style that reflects her personality. Picture Picture Qualifications Allison's teaching qualification is from the British Wheel of Yoga (BWYDip) where she holds a diploma, which she completed in 2000. The British Wheel of Yoga is the UK’s largest yoga community and is renowned for it’s 500 hour yoga teacher training courses that are also accredited with the Yoga Alliance and take approximately two years to complete. Following this she trained to teach yoga to mother and babies and obtained a certificate from Cambridge Active Birth in 2002. She then went on to train to teach yoga to children studying with the Calm for Kids institute and completed this in 2005. As a qualified BWY yoga teacher Allison maintains a current First Aid certificate, is fully insured and attends regular CPD training days. The Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs Teacher Training course (YHLB-R), is accredited as a Recognized Centre of excellence in training and standards by The British Wheel of Yoga (the national governing body for yoga for Sports England and Sports & Recreation Alliance UK) - view www.yogaforbacks.co.uk. How yoga helped me - Allison's own words " During my role as Health Clinic Manager in a busy private clinic in central London, my health started to suffer. I often worked 12-hour days, managing staff, dealing with clients and meeting press deadlines. The one aspect of my life I never gave up was my regular yoga classes and I found that yoga was an escape from my busy schedule enabling me to 'recharge my batteries' for the next week ahead. With so many of my high flying clients suffering with addictions to alcohol and anti-depressants, I was so glad I found yoga as my release from stress! Following this I decided to study for a Master's degree at Southampton University. On completion of my MSc in Public Health Nutrition I decided to treat myslef to a yoga retreat in South India. I had no idea of the impact it would have on my life and it was life changing in many ways. Firstly, I had been plagued by almost daily headaches for over fifteen years, since suffering a neck injury from a trampolining accident at school. On my return to England my headaches has disappeared. Despite spending a fortune on other therapies over the years it was yoga that got rid of them! Also I felt more in control, happier and focused for the first time in my life. The positive impact yoga had on my life inspired me to train to be a yoga teacher. The first yoga class I taught was for Lewisham Council in London, for a group of people suffering stress and anxiety. I was thrown in at the deep end and it was a memorable experience. However, I was delighted at the benefits enjoyed by many members of the group. After moving to Berkshire I then taught in a variety of venues in Marlow, Wokingham and Reading, including Reading University (staff and students), schools, nurseries and exclusive health clubs and spas. In 2008 we moved to Colwall and shortly after we arrived I set up my first yoga class in my home and now offer two classes a week and one-to-one sessions. I also teach at three further classes in Malvern and run regular retreats at The Clover Mill Spa."

Good Practice: Ethics for the caring professions

By Human Givens College

Essential knowledge – for counsellors, psychotherapists and anyone else working with distressed people This new online course is designed to stimulate deeper thinking about the ethical dilemmas and professional difficulties you may encounter when working with people suffering emotional distress. It gives you sound principles to remember and realistic guidelines to follow whenever difficult ethical situations arise. Whilst primarily designed for counsellors and psychotherapists, anyone interested in thinking more clearly about ethical matters, including social workers, occupational therapists, mental health workers, medical and legal professionals, can complete the course. The guidance offered is not a list of static ‘rules’ but a framework of interlocking ideas and insights through which it is possible to create clear and reasonable codes of professional conduct to help ensure we act ethically. The discussions between the tutors raise important considerations – deriving from real case histories – and give you valuable insights about the evolution of ethical behaviour and the nature of ethical problems today. Why this course is needed We live in a world that, despite technological progress, seems to have lost its moral compass. It should go without saying that all therapists should act ethically with their patients, but some don’t. The consequences of this can prove distressing and even damaging for the client involved, and, for the practitioner, can mean anything from public censure, suspension from practice, or full-scale striking off. So, in addition to following guidelines and a code of practice, therapists need to develop a sound inner intuition of what the right thing to do is in any particular circumstance. However, developing this intuition requires us to escape from our mental pigeon-holes so that we can develop richer patterns of thought, through consideration of a wide range of potential pitfalls and ethical dilemmas, to draw upon and return to throughout our professional lives. What will you explore The foundations of ethics Ethics and human nature The difference between ethics, morals and the law The reason ethical dilemmas arise The HG Code of Ethics Examples of modern ethical quandaries Living in a ‘victim culture’ that’s obsessed with blaming Why ethical behaviour is socially conditioned The importance of learning from mistakes Why relying on systems can inhibit flexibility of thought and behaviour Why organisational rigidity drives bureaucracies to behave unethically What determines our individual nature, character and mental health The assumptions we make that get in the way of ethical decision making Typical case histories dealt with by the HGI’s Registration and Professional Standards Committee Ethics: needs and wants Ethics, tribalism and political correctness Our inbuilt range of moral emotional responses The illusion of shared perceptions Three ethical safeguards arising from the Human Givens approach The importance of spare capacity when helping others The danger of patients putting therapists on a pedestal Why technology, using artificial intelligence, raises ethical questions Accredited CPD certificate and much more… Counts towards a Diploma By taking this course, you could be on your way to completing Part 1 of the Human Givens Diploma – a flexible, part-time psychotherapy course which will deepen your psychological knowledge and increase your ability to help people effectively and quickly.  Course Programme Part 1The nature of ethical problems Part 2Ethical Foundations Part 3Practitioners Code of Conduct Part 4Case Histories What's included? 24 Videos 30 Quizzes Life-long access CPD Certificate Course format This online ethics course is delivered by four distinguished Fellows of the HGI, Sue Saunders, Ian Thomson, Ivan Tyrrell and Denise Winn – their discussions provide much food for thought and draw on real case histories that have come before the HGI’s Registration and Professional Standards Committee. As with all our online courses, you are required to answer multiple-choice questions designed to add to your knowledge and deepen your understanding: an enjoyable, thought-provoking part of the learning process. Once you have completed the course, you will receive an Accredited CPD certificate, which counts towards the Human Givens Diploma. This course has been independently assessed by the internationally recognised CPD Standards Office for 6 hours of CPD training. From Stress to Psychosis

By Human Givens College

How to prevent mental illness New insights into the causes of mental illness, including severe conditions like schizophrenia, are explaining distressing symptoms and reducing suffering… Despite the billions spent trying to alleviate mental illness around the world, the rates of mental and emotional distress are increasing. Why? What is going wrong? Why are millions of people so stressed? And what can we do about it? Brilliant online course! At last, a clear explanation of what causes mental illnesses.PSYCHOLOGIST Why take this course ‘From Stress to Psychosis: how to prevent mental illness’ gives you the answers – and much more.. Over the last two decades, course tutor Ivan Tyrrell has played an influential role in integrating psychotherapy and counselling with the latest findings about brain functioning and human behaviour. On his enlightening course, you will find out how this knowledge – and the many insights derived from it – can be easily applied to improve the mental health of people suffering from a wide range of conditions, including the more serious. He explains, among other things, what happens to us when the brain is put under stress; why stress is associated with mental illness; why some people experience psychotic episodes and others don’t; what the difference is between being ‘stressed’ – which doesn’t feel good – and being ‘stretched’, which does. And why people on the autistic spectrum experience stress so intensely. You will also discover what people need to lead mentally and emotionally healthy lives – and what the best type of help is for anyone requiring psychotherapeutic interventions in order to recover quickly from stress overload, depression and anxiety disorders (including PTSD). And you will learn about a revolutionary new theory – described by some psychiatrists as “the only model on the table that explains the symptoms of schizophrenia” – which throws much-needed light on this distressing illness and explains why it has been virtually eliminated in communities where the correct approach to dealing with early onset of psychosis exists. The resulting psychotherapeutic human givens guidelines are already improving treatment – bringing important new hope to sufferers and those working with or caring for them. A different approach to the medical model – more humane and holistic, which is what is needed.OUTREACH & DEVELOPMENT WORKER (MENTAL HEALTH) What will you learn A better understanding of what ‘mental illness’ is The three reasons why all mental illnesses arise Why some stressed people – but not others – go on to experience psychotic symptoms (such as hallucinations, delusions and hearing voices) A richer understanding of the mind/body connection and its impact on our emotional and psychological health What increasing stress levels do to our brains and bodies Information about more effective treatment possibilities that are opening up for clinical psychology, psychotherapy and counselling A moving insight into Asperger’s syndrome Why high functioning people with Asperger’s are easily stressed and cause stress in others What everyone needs to be mentally and emotionally healthy – and how to maintain that wellbeing Natural ways of reducing emotional arousal and avoiding stress overload The central role of emotions in our lives – and why taking it into account is essential for psychotherapy to be successful Knowledge of the APET™ model – which rapidly improves psychotherapeutic outcomes and interventions – and how to integrate it into your work Illuminating case histories The brain as a pattern-matching organ – and what this means for mental health and successful therapy A remarkable observation (shown on film) about the connection between stress, dreaming, depression and psychosis Includes: Course notes Accredited CPD certificate and much more… Counts towards a Diploma By taking this course, you could be on your way to completing Part 1 of the Human Givens Diploma – a flexible, part-time psychotherapy course which will deepen your psychological knowledge and increase your ability to help people effectively and quickly. Grief and Bereavement

By Human Givens College

Understanding loss and the best ways to help This sensitive course gives you greater insight into our natural grieving process, what can go wrong, the myths about grief, and how you can support those going through it Accredited CPD: 6 hours Incredibly helpful online grief course, very informativeEMMA WARDROPPER Loss is a common human experience and major part of life – every one of us will face the loss of a loved one at some time in our lives. Grief and bereavement can hit us in other ways too – like when we lose someone through dementia, addiction or divorce, or lose something significant, like the ability to have our own children or our physical health. This online course helps explain the different ways people react to grief, offers guidance on the most appropriate ways to support people and will also help you with your own grief when the time comes. Véronique's compassion and own extensive experience of grief and supporting others really shines through Why take this course In our Western culture death and dying have largely been taken into the realm of professionals, with many of us dying in hospital. Death is rarely a part of our conversations. Many don’t feel comfortable around the bereaved, they don’t know what to say or do for the best, or what to expect when faced with a bereaved person. This can make the experience of being bereaved very lonely, particularly as there are also many misunderstandings around grief, which can sometimes make matters worse. Véronique is passionate about dispelling these myths and giving people a clear roadmap to demystify what is a normal, healthy response to the death of a loved one – and identify when professional help might be needed. As well as her own personal experiences of grief, she has supported countless others over the years through her professional role as a Human Givens practitioner as well as on a personal level. This compassionate online course, which is illustrated with case histories and packed full of practical tips, will help you feel more confident when supporting grieving friends, patients, family or neighbours – and leave you better prepared for what to expect in your own times of grief. What will you learn The common myths surrounding grief and bereavement – what’s true and what isn’t How differing cultural, religious and belief-based views impact on how people grieve What the science and the latest research tells us about the grieving process The 3 common responses to the death of a loved one When grieving becomes a problem; complicated, avoidant or delayed grief Grieving for someone who is still alive Two different sorts of crying Pathological grieving – how to tell if professional help is needed Guilt and grieving over the loss of someone you feel you might have helped, e.g. suicide, drug or alcohol related death Why our innate emotional needs (part of our ‘human givens’) have a protective role Essential ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ for those wanting to support an individual who has lost a loved one – and how these can change over time or depending on the context How the circumstances around a death can affect how individuals grieve The impact of sudden, unexpected death What to expect in the early days following the loss of a loved one The value and use of ritual The role of our emotions – and why they can come up again out of the blue, sometimes years later How to help children and teenagers deal with death Living loss: grieving over e.g. divorce, infertility, caring for a loved one who is terminally ill, estrangement from friends or family members, the loss of job, or status, freedom, hope etc. The effects of trauma on the process of grief and when to detraumatise the memory How depression and trauma can impact on grieving Practical ways to help someone immersed in grief Case history showing how a human givens therapist helped with extreme grief Help for those that are grieving Case studies: personal experiences of being bereaved and what helped Strategies to avoid being overwhelmed – dipping in and out of grief The use of targeted specialist groups (e.g. death by suicide, drugs, alcohol, the death of a child, of a life partner, cancer, sudden death, stillbirth, sepsis or Covid) and social media Finding meaning and purpose after loss Re-engaging with life Integrating the changes. Course Programme Part 1How and why we grieve Part 2What you need to know about grief and bereavement Part 3 Practical things you can do to help Who is this course suitable for This course is for anyone who would like to understand more about grief and the different ways loss can affect us, and to feel more confident in helping those who are bereaved.
