My name is Heather Dugdale and I am a local lass who has always loved animals, especially dogs and horses.  My Grandfather had a small holding in Kilwinning where he bred Clydesdales and Springer Spaniels,  so I think it’s definitely in the genes.  After many years of working with the Council as an IT Technician I decided to start studying dog behaviour and science based training in the hope that I could become a Dog Trainer when I retired, lucky enough for me I was given the opportunity to take early release (sounds like a prison sentence!) and follow my passion . In 2017 I gained an Ofqual recognised level 4 Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management and Training from Animal Jobs Direct,  and passed an Animal Behaviour and Welfare course from the University of Edinburgh,  successfully completed a Dog Emotion and Cognition course with Duke University and  went on to assist a fully qualified Kennel Club Instructor with her Canis Dog Training Classes which where invaluable,  and gave me the hands on experience I needed to start my own classes. I continued my education and became a member and accredited trainer with the IMDT , having passed my exam with a distinction in 2021.  I gained membership of the APDT in June 2023, which is a highly valued organisation in the Professional Dog Training Industry,  and with this rigorous exam came the opportunity to be listed on the ABTC register, which is a Council that sets and maintains standards of knowledge and practical skills needed to be an animal trainer, training instructor or animal behaviour therapist and is used by shelters and vets.    At present I am also a member of the Kennel Club,  and my club is listed for the Good Citizen Award Scheme, which is probably the most well-known training scheme in the world,  but you don't need to sit any exams,  just have fun training and if you change your mind as you become more confident,  why not go for it!  so if you would like to find out more then please visit  https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/training/good-citizen-dog-training-scheme/ [https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/training/good-citizen-dog-training-scheme/] . In the near future I hope to become a Kennel Club Accredited Instructor for both Companion Dog Training, assistance dogs, and the Good Citizen Award scheme,  this kitemark of quality and excellence is also highly valued in the Dog Training Industry.   In the distant future, I hope to become a fully qualified behaviorist and add this to my list of services.    I think training should be fun, and I believe happy dogs make for happy owners, and that’s why I chose the name Heathers Happy Hounds.  So come and have some fun!

Rather than just signing you up for tuition, we like to sit down with parents & students to learn more about them. What do you enjoy? What challenges you? Mentoring & advice We understand that making decisions about education and careers can be difficult and stressful. That’s why we’re always happy to offer students advice– especially those studying GCSE and A-Levels — to help them navigate subject and career options. Bespoke syllabus Like private schools, we have dedicated Subject Coordinators building our bespoke syllabus (fully aligned to the National Curriculum and major exam boards like AQA, OCR and Edexcel). This central control allows us to plan lessons for the entire year and cover everything students need to learn for exams. Assessment every 6 weeks After 5 weeks of learning a particular set of topics, students are tested on week 6 to assess how much they’ve learnt. The results show us where the student is successful, but also gives us an idea of where there is room for improvement so that we can reinforce those topics. Homework for every lesson Every student receives approximately 30 minutes worth of homework for each hour of tuition. We find it’s a good amount of work that will keep their brains stimulated outside of school & tuition, without being too stressful. Parent conferences Want regular updates about how your child is progressing? Every 12 weeks we organise a parent conference, allowing parents to catch up with tutors and ask any questions. Qualified & experienced tutors We only use UK qualified and experienced tutors that are either active/experienced school teachers, or industry professionals like trainee doctors, dentists and engineers that are currently working in their respective fields. Small classes Schools can overcrowd classrooms with 25-30 children at one go, making it difficult to give them individual attention. Our centre maintains an average of 6-8 students per class so that everyone gets the support they need to succeed.

In the News It is always this time around the year that many of our students reap the fruits of their hard work thoughout the last academic year. The first exams independent of teacher assessments after COVID pandemic restrictions were held this year. Results of both our homeschool and tuition programs were record high. Congrats to all those who passed and achieved excellent results. Special thanks to Sumaya Ali who achieved EIGHT GRADE 9s and TWO GRADE 8s for the 10 different subjects. she sat Ashraf Mohamed of our homeschool program was equally impressive as he secured THREE GRADE 8s and ONE GRADE 9 for the 4 early GCSE subjects he sat this year whilst he was still in year 10.
