The International Feng Shui Association (IFSA) of Singapore is pleased to announce the establishment of its UK Chapter in London on 20th October 2021. We invite you to join the IOU Education Distance Learning Initiative for the Incarcerated. This is an effort to bring Islamic Education to a population that needs it most. IOU has embarked on a journey to provide it’s Diploma and Undergraduate course of Islamic and Arabic studies, and other course offerings to the incarcerated Muslim population across the country, and around the world where requested. Efforts are underway in several state and federal correctional facilities to provide authentic Islamic Education through this initiative, to Muslim inmates in an effort to aid their rehabilitation process and to assist in preparing them for a successful and productive life after prison. Because the Islamic Online University was founded as an internet-based institution of learning, to accomplish the above-stated objective has required a “paradigm shift” away from the internet resource, to that of hard-copy materials, i.e. soft-back, non-spiral bound text-books, (cds and dvds where staff supervision is available.) There is no need for the inmate to access the internet, as the materials are made available to him or her, free of charge. The cost of the Diploma program to the inmate is free, through the generous donations of global and local donors. Currently male and female Muslim inmates are enrolled in 26 states and Puerto Rico. To date more than two thousand (2000) inmates are registered in the program across the country, with an active enrollment of more than one thousand (1000) inmates.

The Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) was established as the National Association of Theatre Nurses, NATN, in 1964. As a membership organisation and registered charity AfPP works to enhance skills and knowledge within operating departments, associated areas and sterile services departments. AfPP aims to enhance the quality of care and patient safety in the NHS and the independent sector throughout the UK. In April 2005 NATN changed its name, structures and systems in recognition of the significant changes that were happening in the healthcare sector and the wider perioperative environment and to accommodate the growing numbers of Operating Department Practitioners and Healthcare Support Workers who were previously not eligible for full membership. AfPP also works to encourage the exchange of professional information between members and co-operation with other professional bodies. These include the Departments of Health in the UK, the Perioperative Care Collaborative, the Medical Royal Colleges, Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs) of all four member countries, Skills for Health and many of the British Safety Institution Committees and other groups set up to discuss specific issues related to perioperative care. Materiality is central to my practice, which has evolved into a deep investigation into the spatial and tactile qualities of poetry. Considering words themselves as a material, I explore the textural layers that I encounter within poems by translating these into drawings, paintings, collages and mixed media sculptural forms, ranging from books and ladders, to unique forms that I have developed and call ‘Poem-Houses’. These ‘Poem-Houses’ have evolved as a result of my experience of poems, as ‘things’ which feel very much like ‘rooms’ and in which I am able to spend time exploring the possibilities of mood and meaning that are part of the atmosphere there and around whose delicate edges, insights and alternative or new meanings begin to suggest themselves. My work becomes a visual refrain – an echo, of sorts – responding to what I have found in such places by means of a process that feels to be almost archaeological and to apparently be reconnecting with how it all began for me. As my process continues, the raw material that I have discovered inside a poem transmutes into and gradually becomes a delicate interweaving of words, natural forms, tissue, wire, thread, wax, with found and other materials, as if by some kind of alchemy, so eluding definition and transcending boundaries of categorisation. Such an unfettering of my “attitude of mind” (see Kathleen Jamie’s poem) has encouraged me to cross boundaries that are perceived between disciplines, ‘allowing’ me to work with media such as video and porcelain clay to create short video and ceramic pieces, through which I experience a liberating feeling of ‘flow’, my natural curiosity piqued by all that I do not know

I am a freelance designer-maker, applied artist, crafts-woman, whatever you want to call me – I stitch stuff by hand; fabric, metal, porcelain, leather, vitreous enamel.. . My work is various, it depends whether I am working for myself, to commission or collaborating with other artists. But whatever I do is slow to make; detailed hand stitching in any material whether in silk, linen, wool or wire takes time, consequently my work is also slow to evolve. I decided to show on this site what I do, who I am work with, how I work and also how I think. I want to show the work behind HER WORK not just the finished things. The journey from the first idea, searching, researching, drawing, sampling and eventually making the finished piece. You will be able to watch my work progress, or not; maybe by seeing this record people will come to value making that is manufactured by hand, heart and eye. In May 2010 I developed – Heart Space Studios ( from my yoga practice “Put your Hands in your Heart Space”) and for 5 years it was a space in Bristol England for all things textile. The activities at the studios can still be viewed – I closed the studio workshops in 2015 – the classes remain on this site as part of the blog, they contain many of my most popular posts….. Heart Space Studios continues as a group of makers who develop projects primarily for publishing companies. Most notably we work with designer Kaffe Fassett in the production of his patchwork quilt books and other fabrics.

My career as an artist started in 1996 when I was asked to illustrate articles from a national religious magazine in Italy. Through the years I developed skills in both digital illustration and hand paint with watercolour and acrylic. In 2002 I decided to take it further and attend a school of art and, in 2005, I graduated as a Comics illustrator and special effects artist. Since I was always attracted by the movie world, I decided to use my new certificate to approach this fantastic world. I worked few years for a production company which took me away from my Country of origin and gave me the opportunity to develop my skills as an artist and writer. I wrote several screenplays for the big screen and illustrated storyboards on a daily basis and here is when I started thinking about writing and illustrating stories for children. “The first tale of Sarah” in fact was born as an idea for a children’s movie but not developed more than a script. In 2015 I moved in the UK and I started working on my first personal project “The Tale of Sarah”, a three books series which I’m writing and illustrating. The first one was published in 2017 and I’m currently working on the second volume. My goal in sharing these stories is to share a message of hope with readers of all ages. As an artist I keep on developing my skills every day and trying new ways and techniques to improve my illustrations. In 2018, I enrolled BA in Illustration at the Open College of the Arts.

For most, home education is far more like university than school. It's about curiosity. Formulating a question or thought and researching it. The parents roll is not to formally teach but to facilitate that journey. It doesn't really matter too much what the child is curios about, the trick is to develop and facilitate curiosity, kindle it like a precious flame, and ultimately develop those critical thinking skills necessary to formulate new ideas for so it becomes a raging inferno. That sounds complicated perhaps, but it's really not. It's what all parents do for their children especially when they're small. Every time a child asks a question you start a journey of discovery. If parents see themselves not as teachers but as facilitators in this way, they will see progress they didn't imagine possible. It's exciting and fun but it can also be scary. Scary because as a parent you've been led to believe children need to be steered along a certain path, that there's a set of knowledge all children should have. But if that's not the child's path, or if it's a part of a journey your child has not yet encountered, you're effectively imposing ideas on the child and run the risk, along side millions of other children, of alienating your child from the learning process, suppressing their own intrinsic curiosity for the imposed ideas of others. How often has a child asked "what's the point in this?" Far too many I suspect. Spark a child's curiosity, facilitate their journey of discovery, put the child behind the wheel and they will take responsibility for their own course and progress, because they will be intrinsically motivated to satisfy their curiosity. For the overwhelming majority of parents, this is the beauty of home education. By answering questions they themselves pose, they retain what they learn because it's part of their own journey. (The Special Rapporteur to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights 8th April 1999) Parents are responsible for the education of their offspring regardless of whether they are in school or out of it. In law the right to an education is an obligatory right, it may neither be denied to, nor refused by, a child. Thus since children may not refuse education and there is no academic consensus on what constitutes an effective education, we believe that the state must be flexible in defining what a 'suitable' education is. While the law expresses the right to home educate as a parental right, it is my belief that, in the same way that young people have the right to decide upon medical procedures, a specific education should not be imposed upon them. This is not only right in principle but in practice, since intrinsically motivated learning will most readily "achieve that which it sets out to achieve". Learning cannot be imposed.
