Oxfordshire Chinese Brush Painting Group (OCBPG) was set up about 6 years ago by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to learn more about this fascinating art form, and practise their developing skills together. The aim of the group is to promote Chinese Brush Painting in all its’ forms. We do this by meeting regularly, holding workshops, talks and visits and organising exhibitions of members’ work. In addition, we organise a programme of day workshops from experienced Chinese Brush Painting tutors throughout the year. In 2018 and 2019, we held one day Workshops, including one with the international artist, Qu Leilei, one of the original members of the Stars Art Movement in China in the 1970’s and 80’s. In 2018, we began exhibiting our work and have several exhibitions planned in the future. We hold regular monthly meetings on the fourth Thursday of the month from 1pm to 4pm in the excellent facilities of Stanton Harcourt Village Hall. Here, you can get support from friendly like-minded people, borrow books from our excellent Library, and, we are beginning to stock some basic Chinese Art Supplies for members to buy at cost. We are a warm and welcoming community and you are more than welcome to contact us if you would like to try out this beautiful art form, or if you are a more experienced painter and want to share your skills and learning with others

David Simon is an author and educationalist. He is the author of the Genius series that includes the best-selling books How to Unlock Your Child’s Genius and How to Unlock Your Genius Using Black History. He co-founded Simon Education in 1987 which has gone on to support over 6000 African-Caribbean families in the UK. He has won numerous awards as an educationalist and a novelist/poet, including the Peterloo Poetry Award. He is also the founder of Black Book Festival, an annual event to promote Black writers globally. David’s other publications includes: Secrets of the Sapodilla (1986), the play Mountaintop (1987) which was nominated for the London Fringe Awards, the novels Garvey’s Last Soldier (1999) and Pastor Pastor (2019). The company currently runs a publishing house, an online school and provides teacher-training to schools in Africa and the Caribbean. Leonora Simon-Bleasdille has worked as a scientist for over 35 years and taught students at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. She co-founded Ebony Supplementary Saturday School, now Simon Education, where I taught English, mathematics, science, and Black history for over 35 years. Nneb Akpom-Simon has worked in supplementary education for 30 years; tutoring and coaching children, young people and parents. Inclusion Expert’s founder, Daniel Sobel, is an internationally respected leader in inclusive education and has advised the DfE, the EU and governments abroad. Daniel is a well-known speaker, writes regularly for publications including Headteacher Update and The Guardian, and is the author of several books including Narrowing the Attainment Gap. Daniel left school with no A Levels and read his first book aged 18. Gradually he fell in love with study and managed to secure a place on a Master’s course in Education Psychology. He went on to take four graduate courses in Psychology and Education, eventually running out of money in the middle of doctoral training. Daniel moved to full time teaching and quickly became a SENCO. Dismayed by how much of the job was pointless meetings and paperwork, he started designing tools to better support his students. During a stint as Assistant Head he continued to develop simple systems to help teachers manage information and maximise the impact of their interventions. Realising that many teachers were struggling with inclusion, that his ideas really worked, and that there was an opportunity to make a difference to children across the country, Daniel left teaching, somewhat hesitantly, to form Inclusion Expert. Over the last few years the company has grown rapidly to encompass a team of experienced practitioners who share Daniel’s vision that every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their potential, regardless of needs, background or ability.

Lilyput Lane is a cute, child sized street perfect for role playing and imaginative play. The ‘Lane’ has a police station, house, beauty salon, café, shop, vet and doctors surgeries. All rooms are fully equipped with related toys so children can embrace each theme. In addition to the ‘Lane’ there is a child size road complete with road signs and traffic lights where children can ride on our number of different vehicles. There is also a train table where children can build their own train tracks to play with and a car table where they are able to drive the toy cars. A construction area is also provided with bricks and tools to play with and dress up area where children could be anything from a princess to a superhero. We also provide a designated baby area with plenty of baby toys and a lovely calm area with cushions to lie on and books to read. We have a small craft room where crafts will always be available to do and a lovely big display wall where our budding artists can display their work ! For the parents/carers there is a lovely café area where you can relax with a cuppa and bite to eat in the knowledge your child has a safe environment in which to play.
