Imaginative Drama Classes for childrenHi I’m Becca and I’m the founder and director of Dramabuds. I set up Dramabuds in May 2008 to offer classes that were new, exciting and different. Using my expertise in drama and the creative arts my idea was to create an imaginary play and drama class for the early years and Dramabuds was born! We offer classes for children aged 2 to 10 years, we base our classes around a story theme each week and we get the whole class involved in the action through drama, play, movement and song! Before setting up Dramabuds I learned my trade by studying at drama school and acting in theatres before leading and producing drama, theatre and education projects for arts companies and schools across London and the South East. I have worked with Cardboard Citizens, Cirque Du Soleil and Creative Partnerships on high profile projects. But the birth of my second daughter Eliza inspired me to create drama exclusively for the Early years. So Dramabuds was born in the summer of 2008 in my back garden with my daughter Florence (aged 2 and a half) who loves dressing up as a princess and acting out stories. A year later we were running our classes at venues across SW London and were awarded the runners up prize for ‘ Best new Activity for the under 5’s’in the whole of the UK by What’s on 4 little ones.

Vicki is a qualified teacher with over 20 years’ experience in schools, colleges and universities. She worked as a secondary school teacher for a number of years before working with students with additional needs. After several years running programmes for young people and adults in the FE sector, Vicki undertook a Masters in Education, specialising in Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs), along with additional training to assess for dyslexia. She is also a qualified SENCO and worked for several years as an Advisory Teacher for the local authority. Vicki currently works part-time in a HE setting assessing and tutoring individuals with specific learning difficulties. Each year she assesses over 80 students for Disabled Students Allowance and continues to offer advice and assessments to a number of local schools. Vicki is the current Chair of the Dorset PATOSS group. Vicki lives in Swanage and relaxes by walking in the Purbeck hills with her dog Poppy, pottering in her tiny garden and acting as roadie to her musical teenage sons. She helps out in the family bookshops whenever she can and has provided training on dyslexia to booksellers from across the UK. MEd. The Project Who are we? We are a newly formed co-housing group, created by a range of individuals who share common principles and who bring expertise to the project, in areas such as; eco design, engineering and construction, research, community development, fundraising, charity and homelessness sector, arts, education, facilitation and training. The story so far The group started informally in 2017 and later joined together as a formed group of five families and committed to progressing quickly in 2018. We have been supported by the Brighton & Hove Community Land Trust and have been successful in securing funding to work with Bioregional on their One Planet Affordable Living (OPAL) process to develop our project. We are continuing to apply for further funding, look for sites to build on, develop our membership policy and financial plan. What is our plan? We have developed a three year plan which involves securing significant funding, finding a site to build on and partnering with an eco developer. How will we finance & ownership work? We are in partnership with an experienced eco developer to support the development of an investment model which can incorporate home owning mortgages, rental and social housing. How will the community work? Homes will be separate units, there will some shared land/garden and play area and a common house; which will have a shared kitchen and dining area and possibly guest rooms, meeting/office space and laundry facilities. We are aiming for a simple community model – with the minimum amount of rules and process that allow us to live as harmoniously as possible. With everyone understanding that, if we all actively contribute to the community – the better it will be for all of us.

We can also provide tailor made courses for School Students in Pneumatics, ECT, Control and CAD/CAM, These again could be based in our training room or in the students’ own school premises. The delivery model we prefer, would typically involve school students attending our premises for training one day a week. This method of delivery would provide a cost-effective solution for schools to deliver Key Stage 3 & 4 curriculum content without having to invest heavily in all the associated hardware and software. Should our clients wish we are able to provide consultancy and training on a more general basis. For example we can provide training course on PC use, right from introductory sessions using Microsoft Applications right to detailed traing using specialist software from our portfolio. I was immensely proud to be appointed Principal of The Edge in 2018 and am thoroughly enjoying what is now my fifth year in role- I live locally, was born and bred in Northfield and have a great affinity for the academy having initially joined it as Vice Principal before becoming Principal.
