It is with great sadness that Ipswich Mosque has learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Our deepest condolences to Her Majesty’s children and their families on this sad occasion. Her Majesty was a great example of devotion to civic duty and public life. She is not only the longest reigning monarch in British history she has also been the background to the lives of most of us alive today. She was the monarch who earned the widest possible respect here in the UK and throughout the world. Her Majesty always put duty first and brought dignity and decency to the highest office in the land. She embodied the best of qualities and was a focus for national unity and identity. Her Majesty has been the still calm centre of stability and reassurance to this nation and the other nations of which has been head of state for more than seventy years. While so much around her has changed she has been a distillation of our national identity, she has been a constant in an ever shifting world, steadfast, dependable dutiful. Her Majesty’s life was one of finely judged service true to the principles of constitutional monarchy driven by duty. Her Majesty’s life has been a huge inspiration and she will be sadly missed by all. Her Majesty’s passing is great loss to the nation. She was a remarkable human being who leaves a remarkable legacy to our country and beyond.

Originally from Russia, I lived in the UK since the late 1990s, making London my home and a place of infinite inspiration. I studied film history, gaining a PhD in the field of Soviet Holocaust cinema, while working with various film festivals and running my own cultural events production company. In 2014 after leaving my career in the arts sector, I launched KinoVino which rapidly gained recognition as one of the most original projects redefining London’s food scene. Since its launch I developed a bespoke event branch, hosted supper clubs under my own name exploring food from my native Russia and released my debut cookbook Salt and Time in 2019. My recipes are featured in The Guardian, Red Magazine, Olive Magazine, The Independent and House & Garden amongst other leading UK publications. While my events have been highlighted in Vogue, Elle, TimeOut, and I’ve been shortlisted for the Young British Foodie Awards in 2017. I’ve also had the honour of being listed at number one of the new voices in food by the Observer Food Magazine in February 2019, and having my cooking names a new trend for 2021 by Waitrose Magazine. Since 24 Feb 2022, I have started #CookforUkraine campaign using the language of food to raise awareness and funds for the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine right now. I have teamed up with my dear friend, Ukrainian chef, writer and activist, Olia Hercules, and the formidable team behind #CookforSyria to create a global movement to celebrate the food of Ukraine while providing the much needed humanitarian help vid UNICEF Emergency Relief Fund. He was an amazing horse who was a complete gentleman with a wicked sense of humour. He was extremely intelligent and very good at reading emotions and feelings; he was gentle and understanding however if you didn’t have a clue, he was capable of giving you a run for your money. He taught us the need for patience and that things in life cannot always be rushed. Over the years, through watching family and friends engaging with him we noticed how his behaviour changed to suit the approaches of the different people he came in contact with. If you were nervous then he was calm, if you were sad he could make you smile. However if you thought you knew more than you actually did, then he wasn’t long in letting you know how wrong you were. His loving and loyal nature made everyone feel at ease and showed us all the benefits of being around horses. Sadly, at the age of 28, after 24 years being part of Wilma’s family and Janis’s friend, he passed over the rainbow bridge. Phantom Our inspiration for Phantom's Legacy We had discussed for many years the possibility of opening a centre to provide therapy and education using horses. From our experience of being around Phantom and his best buddy Basil, we felt this could be possible. We talked a lot about it but never took it any further as we always found some reason not to. Phantom’s passing gave us the kick that we needed as we suddenly realised life is too short not to take the opportunity to help others experience what we learned from Phantom. In attempting to find a fitting memorial we decided that it was time to follow our dreams and keep his memory alive, Phantom’s Legacy was born.

The Leeds Library is the oldest surviving subscription library of its type in the UK and was founded in 1768. Annual membership from £66. Founded in 1768, The Leeds Library is a gem of a heritage library and the oldest surviving subscription library of its kind in the British Isles. We have a fascinating history. We’re Leeds’s oldest cultural institution—a thriving hub of creativity, ideas and inspiration and a book lover’s paradise! Amongst our founding members were eminent doctors, surgeons, clergymen, leading industrialists and businessmen, alongside members of The Royal Society. Revd Dr Joseph Priestley, our first secretary and most likely the primary driving force behind the Library’s creation, was perhaps the most famous of these men. A leading enlightenment thinker, radical preacher, and Fellow of The Royal Society, Priestley was celebrated for his experiments concerning electricity and oxygen—and the invention of carbonated water! In the beginning, the Library occupied a back room at Joseph Ogle’s bookshop on Kirkgate and he became the first librarian. When he died in 1774, his daughter, Mary, was appointed Librarian and remained so for another 37 years until her death in 1813. Over this period, the Library proved to be so successful that it outgrew this modest first home and moved further along Kirkgate to the Rotation Office. A few years later and a move to new premises was required once again to house the ever-growing collection of books. In 1808, the Library moved to a new purpose-built home on Commercial Street where we remain to this day. Built by Thomas Johnson, the town’s leading architect, the grade II* listed building is a rare surviving example of a Georgian public library.
