Hi there - I'm Paul Green, the founder of The Business Community. I've been an independent business owner since 2003 and love working with small businesses; in particular family-run businesses. I'd like to share a little story about the reason for this and what my "why" is. What drives me My father ran his own small business designing, manufacturing and supplying electrical control panels to various companies within the UK and overseas. At the age of 11, unfortunately, the business went bust - as happens to quite a few businesses. This meant having to move house, move schools - money was tight and the atmosphere was not that great in the household. Having gone through this experience, it obviously left an impression. A few years ago, I attended a workshop (run by Jacky Sherman) looking at why a person is in business and exploring the type of businesses that I enjoyed working with. In this session, the seed that was subconsciously planted many years before emerged. It became apparent that what was driving me in my endeavours to support small, family-run businesses, is that I didn't want any children associated with the business owners to go through the trauma of a failed business! This is why I strive to impact the performance of the businesses I work with; having them be better at what they do - focusing on profitability and cashflow within the business. My journey My experience and knowledge of 20 years being employed by someone else and to date, working with 100s of business owners, gives me the confidence and ability to offer business advice, coaching and training when given the opportunity to do so. Having experienced the trials and tribulations that face a small business on that entrepreneurial journey, I am passionate about making sure businesses don't make the same mistakes that I made en route! I am a big believer in collaboration and encourage businesses to work together to grow their businesses; as well as offering help and support to each other for mutual gain. In 2020, my story culminated in the creation of The Business Community. This brings together my principles of businesses working together. I have over 20 years of experience; as a Primary Teacher, working and managing teams in Youth Justice, supporting schools as both an Education Safeguarding Advisor and LADO (responding to allegations against staff), most recently as a Virtual School Head focusing on Children Looked After and Previously Looked After. I can support the adults in your early years setting, school, alternative education provision, or sports or activity club to ensure that they can best respond to the needs of the children in their care. At the age of three I put on my first dance shoes and no one has been able to get me out of them since! From festivals, competitions, shows, pantomimes, and exams I couldn't get enough. I knew from a young age I wanted to share my passion with the world and therefore was determined to educate myself on how to teach performing arts. There has been much research on the positive effects of music for our health and happiness BBC News reported on research from a University in Montreal Canada (Nature Neuroscience study) 'An experiment by a primary school in England has revealed that music can also help in improving academic performance among pupils. New Delhi: It is no secret that music has therapeutic effect and can help students in combatting stress. Studies have also revealed that music helps in improving concentration.' After successfully completing a PGDE Teaching Qualification in Dance at Liverpool John Moores University as well as a Degree in Dance, Drama and Performing Arts at Edgehill University. I decided to open my own Dance Academy focusing on inclusivity, learning new skills, a love of music and fitness. I pride myself on having an inclusive academy where EVERYONE MATTERS! I continue my professional development in working with children and young people as I am passionate about each of my pupils reaching their individual potential.

From a young age In Brazil, I received an extensive music education. I studied piano and clarinet and had experience with orchestra and choir. I loved the connection with my teachers, fellow students, and the music itself. Consequently, I studied conducting at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. I decided to deepen my studies in Europe, focusing on early music and voice which led me to live and work in France and Germany for 11 years. I obtained the Diplome d Etudes Musicales at the conservatorium of Strasbourg (France) and a Master of Music from the University of Trossingen (Germany). My studies included vocal technique and interpretation, historically informed practice, harpsichord, and baroque theatre. I was fortunate to study, and work professionally as a vocal coach, choir conductor, and sang with leading European figures and groups, in the world of early music. In 2016, I returned to Brazil and worked on two important projects: Guri and Anima. Guri is a long-standing very influential institution in Sao Paulo, which offers free music education to disadvantaged children. Anima is a renowned musical group with 30 years of intensive research on the musical imagination of Brazil. I was invited as a soloist singer to record its last CD, Mar Anterior which establishes a dialogue between the Afro tradition of Candomble and Portuguese songs composed by the medieval King D. Dinis.

Sugar Storm has evolved with me as I’ve learnt, failed, experimented, struggled balancing working three jobs and running a business, supported my mental health, (and not supported my mental health) but at the heart of it has always been a love of the alternative, an encouragement of self-expression and a desire to be a little bit different. I created Sugar Storm as a call to arms, to encourage you to choose differently. Choose the things that feel like you, choose clothes that make you feel good the moment you put them on and every time after that, choose companies who are transparent, who support the things you support, choose yourself over and over again. Sugar Storm celebrates DIY, self-expression, unconventional living and embracing the things that make you unique. All those things that were at the heart of the business in the very beginning continue to shape the work I do. Over the course of 2022, and in large part due to the TOW development project and Metal residency for allowing the space to do so, I began to refocus and rebuild Sugar Storm Studio. This meant moving away from fashion and exploring new possibilities for my art practice, workshops, tarot and physical events. In 2023 I am focusing on creating new independent art projects and developing new ways to nurture creativity and empower unconventional individuals.
