Children's first sporting experience is so important as it can influence them to go on to better things if taught properly. This is done through upskilling teachers, instructors and sports coaches in how to deliver high-quality PE and martial arts lessons. I am a qualified school teacher my specialist subject is physical education (PE) I'm also a martial arts instructor and I started training in Taekwondo in 1986 at Panther Taekwondo, I gained my black belt in 1990 and wanted a new challenge, so I started going on different coaching courses to increase my coaching knowledge. While studying for my teaching degree I joined an organisation called Teachsport. With Teachsport, I went on to develop a school's martial arts program which involves going into primary schools and teaching children taekwondo and fitness. Once I graduated from University, I decided to introduce martial arts as a PE option to our Teachsport programme to help children with their coordination and confidence. We now run numerous after- school clubs throughout London and the south east, covering a range of different sports. I have recently gained the status of vice president at Panther Taekwondo and Song Moo Kwan England my duties include safeguarding and wellbeing of students and instructors. I now work in schools in Haringey, Lewisham and Redbridge teaching PE and supporting teachers in how to deliver good to outstanding PE.

EVULVA is a health literacy platform used to promote education about vulvovaginal health and care at key intervention points. These stages include pre-puberty, puberty, fertility and family planning, peri-/menopause, and post-menopause. We are aiming to develop content that is customized to each user’s literacy level and to present information in a way that is culturally affirming, trans/queer-inclusive, and 100% FREE. 6/10 adults in the UK are unable to understand and act on health information Health literacy costs America an estimated 238 billion dollars annually and the economic health costs of poor health literacy in England is crudely estimated to be 4.95 billion annually. Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic/ Black and Indigenous People of Colour (BAME/BIPOC), trans/queer and other marginalized groups are disproportionately represented in these numbers, making this a human rights and public health issue. EVULVA is designed to improve health literacy and reduce these health inequalities through evidence-based research and the support of BAME/BIPOC community leaders and allied health professionals focusing on needs specific to culturally diverse groups. There are more than 5.8 million results when you type ‘vulvovaginal health’ into google. Some websites will have information that is too difficult for the reader to consume while others will underrepresent cultures, isolating people from obtaining life-saving information about their body. More than 4 in 10 adults in the UK struggle with health content. That number raises to 6 in 10 adults when numbers and statistics are added to health content. Many websites hypersexualise BAME/BIPOC groups adding another level of stress and deleteriously adding to decreased mental wellness around vulvovaginal health concern

Since inception in 1975, Canvey Island Swimming Club (CISC) has been competing in the world of swimming and has pupils from all local areas. Swimmers are personally trained and developed in line with Swim England Swim Plans, then fed through to the Club’s Squad Teams. Once swimmers reach Squad level, Head Coach and Teachers work closely together with members to transform them into competitive swimmers. We are a competitive club whilst encouraging younger swimmers to attend for the fitness and fun side of swimming in a Swim Club environment. All swimmers are introduced into a sporting environment where fitness along with nutrition play a vital role. CISC competes in local, regional and national swimming leagues. We swim against other clubs in and around Essex and at County level. All our swimmers develop confidence and courage to compete in races either as an individual or in team events. So, come on Canvey! From August 2011 to August 2013 – CISC temporarily moved to Runnymede whilst Waterside underwent major development work. We had no Coach and no Squads at this point. The Club provided Swim School and Swim Development lessons. Late 2013 saw the return of a Coach and Squad groups slowly built. In 2018 the full committee resigned, leaving the club in disrepair, with no Swim School Teacher and no Head Coach. Some of the parents pulled together to become the new committee, their first action was to re-employ Paul as Head Coach and Alison as Head Teacher. They revised Membership/payment/insurance costs and Teamed together to make what the club is today, a family friendly swimming club.

I am a freelance designer-maker, applied artist, crafts-woman, whatever you want to call me – I stitch stuff by hand; fabric, metal, porcelain, leather, vitreous enamel.. . My work is various, it depends whether I am working for myself, to commission or collaborating with other artists. But whatever I do is slow to make; detailed hand stitching in any material whether in silk, linen, wool or wire takes time, consequently my work is also slow to evolve. I decided to show on this site what I do, who I am work with, how I work and also how I think. I want to show the work behind HER WORK not just the finished things. The journey from the first idea, searching, researching, drawing, sampling and eventually making the finished piece. You will be able to watch my work progress, or not; maybe by seeing this record people will come to value making that is manufactured by hand, heart and eye. In May 2010 I developed – Heart Space Studios ( from my yoga practice “Put your Hands in your Heart Space”) and for 5 years it was a space in Bristol England for all things textile. The activities at the studios can still be viewed – I closed the studio workshops in 2015 – the classes remain on this site as part of the blog, they contain many of my most popular posts….. Heart Space Studios continues as a group of makers who develop projects primarily for publishing companies. Most notably we work with designer Kaffe Fassett in the production of his patchwork quilt books and other fabrics.

ALHA (Avon Local History & Archaeology) is an umbrella group, aiming to encourage and coordinate activities of the various local history, archaeological and heritage groups that lie within the Avon area. Our area is the former County of Avon, now the council areas of Bath & North-East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire in the West of England. There are some eighty societies in ALHA, with a collective membership of about 10,000. Some are region-wide but with special interests like the Bristol & Avon Family History Society; while many are parish- or district-based. They are listed on our Groups page. We also have links with local institutions, such as Record Offices, Libraries, Museums and Universities. We are managed by an elected Executive Committee meeting once a quarter, and operate through a small number of voluntary officers. Membership of ALHA is open to both groups or other institutions, and to individuals. Group members receive a free copy of the Speakers List and all members receive a copy of the Newsletter. I am passionate about delivering useful, relevant legal training for busy practitioners to support them in developing legally literate good practice in adult social care. I am trusted and valued by a lengthy list of local authorities to provide high quality, excellent value bespoke training to their staff which engages and empowers them as practitioners. A subject expert with specialisms in adult social care and health law and in autism, my genuine commitment and enthusiasm for improving legal literacy and best practice in adult social care is evident to those attending my training. I am able to create a supportive learning atmosphere in which practitioners with a range of levels of experience feel confident to express themselves and have the space to develop their skills and reflect on their practice. My training is very popular with staff because of the relevant content and support they receive in applying the law to practice. I am readily able to answer questions at all levels and give realistic examples to support participants in applying the law to the realities of practice. In addition to my extensive experience in developing and delivering training for the public sector, I have a particular skill at explaining complex legal topics in an accessible and engaging way. I create and deliver training on all aspects of the Care Act; Adult Safeguarding law and practice from Safeguarding Enquiries to advanced legal options for complex case work; Mental Capacity law including CoP and BIA Refresher; DOLS and LPS; aspects of Mental Health Law including s.117 and nearest relative; Transitions; Human Rights and broad Legal Literacy training for Adult Social Care. I always deliver all legal training personally. Please see my current courses page for a more detailed list. I also develop bespoke, practically-focused training on all aspects of autism. I specialise in advanced autism knowledge specifically for public sector professionals: social care staff, teachers, health staff at all levels. I bring together my extensive knowledge of autism and my familiarity with the social care, health and education sectors to support practitioners with practical knowledge such as: practical communication with autistic people across the spectrum; supporting autistic people to cope with change. Many of these courses are now delivered on my behalf by a small group of autistic trainers. I also offer specialist autism training specifically for social work (including Care Act and capacity assessment of autistic people & safeguarding autistic people.) I am also able to provide specialist courses in autism for educational settings. I offer a consultancy service in both of my fields of expertise providing tailored support, research and specialist knowledge for a range of purposes. This includes change management consultancy within the public sector aimed at service improvement: around autism and/or improved compliance with legal frameworks. In the autism field, this included a successful and extensive change management project supporting an autism special school to become a Centre of Excellence, consultancy work and outreach with a range of mainstream schools across the area, local authority and health staff and a series of videos on practical autism topics for the Scottish Government. Recent work on the legal framework of social care has involved training for a variety of local authorities, including bespoke courses and advanced training on Safeguarding, the Care Act and in the area of Mental Capacity Law/DOLS/LPS. I am currently project managing a substantial project on Inclusive Governance on behalf of the National Autistic Taskforce (working in partnership with ARGH and AMASE) for Scottish Autism. I represent NAT on the Workforce for Autism Group England (WAGE) co-ordinated by Skills for Health/Skills for Care and was involved with the development of the Core Capabilities Framework for supporting autistic people. Prior to my involvement with NAT, I acted as legal and policy consultant for the National Autism Project and was the company secretary of Autscape for many years.
