Sami Green is a teacher, mentor, and workshop facilitator in Bristol and North Somerset. She completed a Fine Art BA at University Centre Somerset with Honours in 2021. Before this, Sami worked for 15 years creating, coordinating and building imaginative decorative environments for events. Wedding magazines and blogs across the world featured her styled photoshoots. Installation commissions include Plimsoll Productions, Tokyo World and Awesome Events. In May 2021, her degree artworks won a window display space and funding at Weston-Super-Shop Windows, a community project organised by Weston Arts Space. In 2022 her community-centred artwork Flutter II for St. John’s Church, Highbridge, won a new artist bursary from Somerset Art Works. Sami continues to develop The Transformation Project, curating responses through artist collaboration for SAW Festival in September 2022. Sami used her degree studies as an opportunity to develop ideas about perception and experience within critical spatial practice. A development from events experience. Her July 2021 exhibition, Emergentism, experimented with the sensory and intellectual processes that help us understand the world around us. Taking inspiration from nature, her unusual, abstract, material, and process-driven forms offered participants immersive, light and sound experiences through colour and frequency. In 2022, ideas led by research into art education practices and the benefits of art and culture to the wellbeing of a community have become central to development. Sami has worked with the community to develop a socially engaged artwork, exploring the collective potential and the possibilities in collaboration. She is working with cross-disciplinary performers and makers to promote a four-dimensional approach to experience through sculptural installation, sound, performance, and workshops. Sarah specialises in providing bespoke hand carved items ranging from lettering and relief decoration to producing architectural details such as corbel brackets and ceiling roses. By adding hand carved decoration, items that are otherwise plain and ordinary are transformed into unique pieces that are personal to the owner. This applies just as much to everyday objects such as chopping boards as to more elaborate ornamental features to decorate the home. Wood carving is incredibly versatile and Sarah can either work from existing designs you may have seen or create a completely new piece for you. As well as producing the initial carved work Sarah can offer a variety of finishes including oil and water gilding using genuine Gold and Silver leaf. Sarah's interest in traditional crafts began whilst studying for A Levels in Art & History of Art at the Royal Latin School, Buckinghamshire. Through understanding how the country's great buildings were built and furnished, along with the reasoning behind their design, she developed an even greater respect for their creators and understood why it is important to maintain these buildings for future generations. From Buckingham she moved to Portsmouth to study a degree in Restoration and Decorative Studies at Portsmouth University. Within her first year she had grasped the basics in a variety of traditional decorative techniques including faux finishing, gilding and scagliola. In her final two years she decided to focus her studies on woodcarving and plasterwork- both in a restorative sense and in creating new designs using traditional materials and methods. During her time at University she was provided with the opportunity to hone her skills in both woodcarving and plasterwork. Her projects included 3-coat lime plastering, using the lime plaster she'd made from scratch using traditional recipes. She researched the historic and almost extinct technique of freehand stucco work, creating her own designs and experimenting with various recipes, including those that were used in the restoration of Uppark in Hampshire. Thankfully all that hard work paid off and she graduated with a 1st Class Honours. Sadly, her year was the last to complete this course as the University decided to end it in back in 2008. From Hampshire she was on the move again, this time to Shropshire where she began work with a heritage company. Here she built upon her project managing skills and learnt more about the structural side of building restoration, particularly timber framed buildings. Whilst she enjoyed her time in Shropshire, she decided that she was much happier in her workshop among the sawdust and plaster, which leads her to her current home back in West Sussex.

Merseyside Polonia is the most recognised Polish not for profit organisation in the Northwest of England. It was established in 2009 as a charitable organisation. The organisation is based in Liverpool but the project and events often involve communities from other boroughs on both sides of the River Mersey. In the past few years, Merseyside Polonia has built up strong links with local authorities and services, arts and community organisations as well as other institutions and founders: among them Liverpool City Council, Polish Cultural Insititute in London or BBC Children in Need. The organisation was registered on 9th of June 2009 and is governed by a Board of Trustees. Merseyside Polonia governing documents are Memorandum and Articles of Association. Main objects of the organisation are: to raise awareness of the Polish Community and culture among the local community to support community development of Polish and other communities to build community cohesion by increasing understanding between communities representing different cultural backgrounds Areas of work ARTS Polish names such as Polanski, Chopin or Lem are well known worldwide. Our aim is to give you a chance to celebrate and experience contemporary Polish arts in Liverpool together. We support a range of activities across the arts – from literature and film festivals, reading groups, poetry slams, film premiers, to music concerts and dance workshops. In the past few years we have been working with local artists, well known Polish writers and filmmakers, storytellers, poets, musicians, UK based publishers, arts institutions, and venues. Amala (formerly known as Sky School) was conceived in 2017, in response to the gap in quality education provision for displaced youth. Our name is inspired by the Arabic word for hope, which our education embodies. We believe that young refugees - as all people - have a right to quality education. Yet, fewer than one in three refugees are able to complete their secondary education and only 6% are able to access higher education. In 2016, Amala co-founders Mia and Polly were working on a prestigious scholarship; the programme admitted refugees to schools around the world to complete their upper secondary education. They found that for every scholarship place available, hundreds of promising applicants were turned away. Their subsequent research showed that there were few educational opportunities available for refugee youth aged 16-25, many of whom are forced to drop out of educational systems due to the barriers they face. The idea for Amala was born: to provide transformational learning programmes for displaced youth and their host communities to improve their lives today and open up opportunities for the future. Amala has two key programmes: The Amala High School Diploma, the first high school diploma designed for and with refugee youth, and Changemaker Courses in areas such as Peace-building, Ethical Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship. Amala supports students to access further opportunities for education, training and work beyond their studies. Read more about our programmes here. Amala’s curriculum has been developed with the support of our educational partner UWC South East Asia, one of the largest international schools in the world with an expertise in values-based curriculum development, and led by UWCSEA’s former Director of Teaching and Learning Stuart MacAlpine, in collaboration with refugee youth and 150 educators. Amala learning focuses on the development of learner agency as well as competencies that enable learners to make change in their lives and communities. Amala learning is delivered through a blended learning model and in light of Covid-19 many courses have been adapted to an online model. Amala programmes are delivered both directly by Amala and in collaboration with partners whose missions are aligned to our own. Through collaborating with partners we have been able to bring transformational education to refugees in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe and Latin America. My name is Amy Powell and I am a catalyst for reconnecting people with their innate creativity. At Bristol Art For All we facilitate friendly, inclusive learning environments where people can explore their creativity. We started in 2015 running an open access drop in face-to-face community art class in Easton in Bristol. From December 2019 to March 2020 sessions moved to Hamilton House in Stokes Croft Bristol and since April 2020 have been online. Online sessions are run in partnership with local charities as well as sessions open to all adults. Current partners include Age UK and St Mungo’s Recovery College. All online sessions are around a theme selected by the participants, who use the art materials and skills they already have to devise their own projects. Support is on hand to give input on what is made. The sessions act as an online art studio with time for making and opportunities to share and get feedback on artwork. Participants are seen as artists first with the acceptance that we are all on our own life journeys. The focus is on creating learning environments where people enjoy the process of making. With this strong foundation people can have the confidence and resilience to develop further skills. This website gives a taste of the work made over the course of Bristol Art For All. Myself and Rosa Hewitt began Bristol Art For All in 2015. In 2017 Rosa went to the University of Hertfordshire to study Art Therapy. She now works in London as an art therapist with children. I continued with the project in Bristol with the support of volunteers, building my knowledge, experience and skills by studying courses in teaching, facilitation, communication and social enterprise. As well as volunteering with Arts and Health organisations including Studio Upstairs, Bristol Art on Prescription, Workers Education Association (WEA), Milestones Expressions programme and St Mungos Recovery College where I currently run their online art class. I love being a catalyst for people to reconnect with their creativity. It is a great privilege to have worked with over 200 people across Bristol and beyond. Some have attended for years others for one session but all have been welcome and encouraged in their art making. I am currently in the process of making Bristol Art For All into an online art school to reach people who would otherwise struggle to access mainstream arts education. I am interested to connect with organisations, which work with clients who would benefit from exploring and developing their creativity with the support of being in a group.
