When we registered, Companies House asked us to identify our main areas of business activity: - 68209 - Other letting and operating of own or leased real estate; 82990 - Other business support service activities not elsewhere classified; 85600 - Educational support services; 90040 - Operation of arts facilities Perhaps the best way to understand what we do, is to think of us as a charitable 'gap-plugger.' We provide small groups with the individualised support, assistance and / or expertise they need but do not have amongst their volunteers and cannot afford to 'buy in.' An example of this is acting as a banker by holding monies in trust and paying suppliers direct on the group's behalf when asked to do so. This simplifies the administrative burden greatly for groups and gives them more time to focus on what they set out to do. We also provide Governance advice so groups can get less bogged down in red tape. Digital services are also an area we help with, providing advice on how groups can promote themselves, and help them do so if they wish. Some of the groups we work with feature on this site. You will see some groups are publicised on this website - if that might be of help to you get in touch. We operate in a supportive way by only helping if (and when) asked. We play an important role within the profession of counselling in the UK and in May 2013 the Society was one of the first organisations to gain Accredited Register status with the Professional Standards Authority Accredited Register programme. Our belief is that counselling (and related therapies) should be seen as a vocation (not just a job but a worthy occupation) and that the relationship between counsellor and client is important for the outcome of therapy. We support and promote counselling and counsellors, offering a wide variety of benefits to our members and training providers. We have also created and published online CPD courses to support healthcare providers and those in public-facing roles. As an Accredited Register holder we meet the robust and exacting standards set by the Professional Standards Authority with particular emphasis on public safety and assuring that the best interests of the clients are protected. The National Counselling Society believes that all Accredited Registers should be seen as equal. To this end, we were instrumental in gaining recognition within the NHS for all Accredited Registers. NHS Choices information list Accredited Registers to reflect what should be equality of choice for all clients and patients. In addition, NHS Employers has added content encouraging the use and detailing the benefits of Accredited Registers, and the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme recognises the NCS alongside other Registers. We’re also very pleased that, again as a result of our efforts, Health Education England has amended the information on the NHS Health Careers website also to be in line with the aforementioned changes on NHS Choices and NHS employers sites, and promote inclusive hiring practices We are a not for profit organisation and the high standards of our Accredited Register are externally verified by the Professional Standards Authority. The organisation is bound by appropriate rules of governance including a constitution, codes of ethics, and a complaints procedure.

We met away from our home countries and settled in England decades ago. We are both keenly aware of how fortunate we have been in escaping the tragedy and destruction caused by war, occupation and poor governance. We also realise the importance of a strong civil society and the rule of law, of exposure to diversity and tolerance and the lasting impact of a good education. We established the Asfari Foundation in 2006, after years of reactive giving. We wanted to create a long-term impact that focuses on the issues we felt most passionately about – education, and the building of a strong civil society which is the foundation for any fair, resilient, sustainable and productive society. We are proud of what the Foundation has accomplished in its short life. Whilst there is no limit to what should be done, especially in the countries we originally came from, through our partners we have provided scholarships, fellowships and training to hundreds of young people across the UK and the Middle East, established the Asfari Centre for Civil Society and Citizenship at the American University in Beirut and provided relief and education to tens of thousands of Syrians, displaced following the recent uprising, to name just a few programmes. Young people deserve a good education and the right to live in tolerant and pluralistic societies. So much ability cannot be wasted. Hope for a better life will not die in the face of today’s grim realities, especially in the Middle East. We are a pioneering community-led learners' co-operative focused on improving the educational, physical and social well-being of children and families contextualised within family and community empowerment. We are commonly known as uLearn Naturally Learners' Co-operative. We are an umbrella organisation serving collectives with assistance in forming Abundance Centres Member Trusts. We also work to build various kinds of educational infrastructure to support our Member Trusts and the general public. These infrastructure works are mainly related to our Home-School-Knowledge Exchange project and our emerging uLearn Naturally Media Services. In general the objectives of the Trust are to carry out activities which benefit the communities of UK and members of the Trust in regard to community engagement, family directed learning and personal development in the realms of education, well-being and social networking. In particular, our mission is to establish and maintain centres of service with the principles and general intention of bringing about better community engagement, creativity, cross-curricular learning and/or unified ways of coming to know that which specifically enables and enriches the learning of the sciences and maths through the arts, intelligent play and the dissemination of wholistic (nature-centric) pedagogical (learning) practices. The Custom House and Canning Town Community Renewal Project … is a charity established in 1994 and is based in the refurbished old St Luke’s Church building in Canning Town. Our mission is to develop and manage self-sustaining local groups, community-controlled assets and a range of activities and enterprises for the benefit of the local people. The Charity obtained St. Luke’s for a peppercorn and organised a £2.25 million refurbishment which created 4 floors of spacious offices and amenities. Rent from the offices and the Abrahams nursery building makes the Charity self sustaining and provides a regular if modest sum for charitable activities. The Charity is governed almost entirely by local people. They do this for nothing. 7 of 8 trustees come from Newham and 6 are from Custom House and Canning Town. The Charity is run by LOCAL PEOPLE FOR LOCAL PEOPLE. The trustees delegate their power to the general manager (John McNeill) who runs all the essential business and project work of the Charity. John’s first duty is to keep the Trustees properly informed so they can make effective decisions. The Charity also employs a financial administrator (Mike Bowles). The CH&CTCRP has broad charitable objectives to promote purposes beneficial to local people including; the relief of poverty, the advancement of education and training, the preservation and protection of the environment and the provision of recreation in the interest of social welfare to improve the conditions of life of local people.
