How we can help The physical and emotional stress of looking after an autistic child or adult is a huge strain on the parents and we want them to feel that they are not alone in their struggles. They can come to us for practical advice, information and emotional support so that they will be better equipped to cope with and care for their autistic children and any other siblings. We provide opportunities for them to have a guilt-free break from their caring responsibilities, safe in the knowledge their autistic child is being well looked after by staff who understand the challenges that autism can present. Communities Finally, we raise awareness of autism in the community in order to reduce misunderstanding about the condition. Through training and informative talks we educate schools, local businesses and community groups about the sort of behaviours that an autistic person may display and how best to respond to and be supportive of them. A sophisticated society cannot teach everything it knows to everyone. A secular society will inevitably make choices and promote knowledge according to its current understanding of what its people require to be successful and its definition of ‘success’ will change according to circumstances. However, a successful secular education will produce a generation with a secular way of looking at the world. A Christian society endeavours to live according to its understanding of what God requires. Its definition of success is primarily related to how far it is able to live according to those high standards. Its idea of a successful education will be one which produces young people with a Christian worldview. A Christian School is one which starts history with creation and man’s responsibility for what went wrong; one whose mandate is from Philippians 4:8: “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report;…think on these things;” one which celebrates learning, promotes understanding, and encourages wisdom, not merely the application of little-understood formulae to new situations. Christian Education should provide a whole package for the whole person and lead to success academically, spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, and even economically. It should result in people who are able to contribute in works of service to the church and to the world. They should be able to spread the gospel and take their place in church and civil life. Bea draws from a wealth of experience, knowledge and skills gained during careers spanning nearly three decades in various Leadership & Management roles in the public and private sector as well as in the equestrian world. Bea's equestrian experience spans over more than 30 years. Having discovered her passion for all things horses at a very young age, she took her 'hobby' to the professional level by becoming an apprentice jockey at one of Europe's oldest and most prestigious racecourses, Berlin-Hoppegarten, in Germany. There she graduated from Jockey School with distinction and qualified as a Specialist for Horse Keeping, Breeding & Professional Rider in 1991. To broaden her skill set further, Bea went on to work for 18 months at Berlin's Equine Veterinary University as a Veterinary Nurse, gaining invaluable experience and insights in equine health and welfare which have stood her in good stead all throughout her career. Bea continues to develop and broaden her own knowledge and skillset through regularly attending CPD training days. She previously trained with Kelly Marks (Intelligent Horsemanship) and is a committed student of Marijke de Jong's Straightness Training Home Study programme, employing these skills and techniques in her day-to-day work. Homefield College was founded in 1987 as a long-term residential provision for people with learning and communication difficulties. We have since expanded our offering with specialist further education and training, supporting both part-time and full-time day and residential students. The College now offers a range of individualised vocational education programmes based within local communities. All programmes are tailored to the needs of each individual with the starting point being that they feel safe in the environment that they are in. Once this is achieved it allows our staff to work with them to develop and improve their skills to enable them to live more independently once they leave the College. Our education provision is based upon our belief that young people achieve through experience and this is reflected in the activities provided in our programmes. Students will undertake work experience and we hope that for some of them this will lead to a supported internship.
