I am lucky to have 2 amazing boys one of whom has Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder and a whole host of other SEN conditions. So the first thing to say is I am one of you! I have been the parent in the playground that people look at and have battled the EHCP system to get the support for my son that he needs, but along the way, I have also had some amazing experiences and met some wonderful people and children. My name is Jane Dunthorne. I am a wife and mother of three wonderful children, one of whom has autism. My husband and I moved to the United States from England in 1993 and have lived in the Pittsburgh area on and off ever since. Our darling son, Alex, was born here in 1999 and diagnosed with autism when he was three. He was non verbal except when he recited the words to the movie Monsters Inc. with 100% accuracy!! He struggled with managing his emotions and had severe meltdowns. He also suffered from various sensory processing issues which intensified his meltdowns. As soon as he was diagnosed, he started intensive wraparound services - 40 hours a week at home and then once he started school, he had complete TSS throughout the day. When he was six, we moved to the Wilkes Barre area and Alex continued receiving services. He was making steady progress and was beginning to be able to control his emotions and frustrations. In 2009, when he was 10, we returned to the Pittsburgh area.

Ingfield Manor School is a non-maintained special school for pupils aged 3–19. Our core offer supports individuals with neurological motor impairment such as cerebral palsy to access a conductive education cirriculum. These students have a range of abilities and associated learning difficulties arising from cerebral palsy and other disabilities. Who Can a Neurodevelopment Program Help? When I tell people that I am a neurodevelopment therapist, this is the most common question, and if you are looking at this website, the chances are you are looking for help for yourself or you child and most of all you want to know if you are in the right place. So simply put, neurodevelopment therapy is a way of giving the brain and neurological system a second chance at development. When some of the developmental stages are missed, primitive reflexes don't get a chance to develop properly or develop and remain active when they should have gone away. A reflex is an action that the body has no conscious control over, such as closing your eyes when you sneeze. We are most familiar with the moro reflex in babies, when they startle and fling their arms wide, then cling and cry. Reflex movements, which start from 5 weeks in utero, build the nervous system, allow the brain and body to organise and develop so that eventually you can stand, move, think and function with ease. When these processes don't develop as they should then problems can develop such as poor focus, balance, impulse control, anxiety, social interaction, reading and writing, sensory processing and other issues. Children then get labelled and lose their confidence. In many cases, all that is required is a reorganisation of the neurological system. A neurodevelopment programme can be used as a stand alone therapy or can be used alongside any other programme or treatment.
