After leaving art college with a diploma in Art and Design, I left the world of art and spent the next 20 years working in marketing and account management, and bringing up my son. I didn't have much time to dedicate to my love of art, but now my son is much older, so I have more time on my hands to create the art that I love. I started out painting flowers and landscapes, which I shipped all over the UK and USA and a few even went to Australia! My love of animals has always been there, I've had horses and so many dogs and cats from being really young, so it was only natural that animals feature regularly in my art. My artwork has more recently turned towards painting dancers, landscapes, and the beach too. I love to paint in watercolour, in acrylics or in oils, and regularly create different collections in these different mediums. I set up Healds Green Gallery, named after the converted church that we currently live in, and run workshops from the gallery in Chadderton and also from locations in Cheshire too. We have classes starting in January in Tatton Park in Knutsford which is such a beautiful place to visit! We run watercolour and acrylic classes and sometimes branch out by getting other expert tutors in to provide glass craft and pottery workshops too. All of our classes are perfect for beginners or people who have always wanted to try painting but don't have the equipment, or never get round to it at home. Having had young children, it sometimes feels quite self-indulgent to spend time doing something that is just for you, but you deserve that time. I love every minute I spend drawing and painting, its time spent solely concentrating on just that, and not worrying about other things. My aim is to share my love of art to everyone and to make you all feel good enough to come along and try it out. You don't have to be the next Rembrandt, just come along and enjoy the time. I hope I can tempt you to want to try it out yourself and join us on one of our workshops!

Hi, my name is Sue and I originally studied botanical illustration, but found it too exacting. Now I enjoy creating characters, and giving them their own lives and adventures. I come from a family of happy campers and I enjoy drawing them too, especially ones that are really part of a family with their own original name. I love plants and small intricate objects like shells and starfish. I like fine details, and I’m especially into ‘shadows’ a botanical illustrative discipline, showing what’s in front. I work in ink and watercolours, and occasionally pencil. I always try and see the funny side of everyhing. There’s always plenty to laugh about if you know where to look, the mirror’s usually a good start. I am a company director and accounts administrator for our family business. But in my dreams, I’m an illustrator. I love creating characters and giving them life on the page. So much so that I’m thinking of giving up the day job and taking early retirement, allowing me more time to travel and draw. I studied botanical illustration at Leicester college and took a certificate at Sheffield University, but now after a serious illness, I’d rather concentrate on things that I really enjoy, as botanical illustration is so exacting. The flowers that I paint now are simplified and I like to give them an outline in ink. I have a bit of a thing about shells and starfish, so there will be more of them on the way. My characters grew out of my illustrated diaries. They make me happy, and I hope that you like them too.

I created Maleficent Things in 2016 out of my love of movies and fondness for fairytales. I began by making a collection of character themed charm bracelets representing princesses, heroines, villains and the misunderstood, from the likes of Cinderella to Hermione, the Evil Queen to Maleficent herself. Since then I have designed hundreds of items inspired by films, fairytales and literature. From quote pendants and pins to pin cushions and watercolour prints, Maleficent Things presents an enchanting collection of original film, fairytale and book inspired jewellery, stationery and gifts. I am delighted to also offer private workshops, jewellery making classes and parties for adults and children. All can be tailored to create the perfect bespoke package, so do get in touch if you would like to discuss ideas. When the pandemic made workshops and parties difficult, I created make-at-home craft kits to help people enjoy creative happy time at home, and so Charming Crafty Things was born. I now have a wide range of kits available here on this website, and you can find a handpicked selection on my Charming Crafty Things Etsy and Small and Beautiful shops too. I studied Art many moons ago and am delighted to once again have the opportunity to paint, design and create, alongside looking after my three delightful boys (superhero powers: sarcasm, hugs and sideblinding) and a huge fluffy dog (superhero power: mood enhancement). I thoroughly enjoy designing my Maleficent Things and creating crafty kits brimming with beautiful materials so that you can make your own lovely things too. My name is Barbara and I'm a graphic designer, art lover but foremost a mum of three wonderful children. We all love to draw and paint together, and try out new techniques and let our creativity flow. I've been drawing, crafting and painting with kids of different ages for many years and occasions, and I would love to see your little and older artist in one of my classes. Fostering creativity won't just increase a child's chances of becoming the next Picasso. It will also help to develop mentally, socially, and emotionally. Creating art may boost young children's ability to analyze and problem-solve in many ways. As kids manipulate a paintbrush, their fine motor skills improve. By counting pieces and colors, they learn the basics of math. When children experiment with materials, they dabble in science. Most important perhaps, when kids feel good while they are creating, art helps boost self-confidence. And children who feel able to experiment and to make mistakes feel free to invent new ways of thinking, which extends well beyond the craft room.

Our classroom for 2 and 3 year old children is a room for social development. In all of activities we will have a large focus on sharing and learning to clean up after ourselves. Besides those basic social skills, your little one will learn age appropriate activities in: Language: Developing vocabulary, listening and communication skills; Arts and Crafts: Use of different mediums of paint, chalk, crayons. using colors, eye-hand coordination, with self-expression; Large and Small Motor Development: Running, climbing, riding tricycles, throwing, catching & bouncing ball, stringing beads, lacing cards puzzles. We understand that most children in this classroom will still be working to master potty training. As the child becomes ready (showing more than one sign they are interested in toilet training), we will work with them on this skill. Toilet training is a process and we know that keeping the process consistent between the home and school is a key factor. We will work with each family as the time comes and make the process as positive and effortless as possible!

I set up my business as I wanted to offer my enthusiasm for art to the wider community. The building that is now Yogawest has been at the heart of Iyengar yoga in Bristol since the early ’90s. Originally a British Legion club, the BIYC (the Bristol Iyengar Yoga Centre) was set up by Bob and Kathy Welham. A few years later Gerry Chambers and Lynda Purvis took over and set up Yogawest which they ran for over a decade, developing the building over the years into a 2-studio space, hosting classes and workshops at the highest standard. Diana and Mike Penny started the latest chapter in the story of Yogawest on Friday 2nd September 2011. There were a few days of downtime to re-paint and make some layout changes and the doors opened again on 10th September 2011 with a well-attended Open Day complete with Yogawest balloons! We intend to continue to provide the very best yoga teaching in Bristol, with classes for all abilities. We have a wonderful team of teachers and a warm welcome waiting for you. We welcome suggestions and feedback: we have had some great ideas so far and are having fun tweaking the timetable and environment as a result. We hope you like the changes!

I am an abstract artist living in Edinburgh, UK, and I work in mixed media, including acrylics and collaging techniques. Creating exhilarating and compelling paintings is what I strive for, by manipulating different materials and media. I usually begin my process by adding loose layers, building up textures and color, while being directed by gestural marks that I react to. A new body of work often appears when a certain color, a piece of collage or something else such as a visual prompt, has stirred up inspiration. It is important to me to let the work develop organically and let it lead the way. I especially enjoy the beginning stages of playful movement, and activating the canvas with impulsive mark-making, often a graphite pen or big splashes of color. Sometimes I begin with collaging, creating textures and patterns before even a drop of paint has hit the surface. From there, the painting starts to take a direction of its own. Using stimulating tools, anything from brushes and pens to scrapers, scratching tools and even sandpaper on the surface, the piece starts to form..
