About the Migration Museum The Migration Museum explores how the movement of people to and from Britain across the ages has shaped who we are – as individuals, as communities, and as a nation. Migration is a pressing contemporary issue and is at the centre of polarised political and online debate. But there’s an underlying story of comings and goings stretching back many centuries. And this story goes to the heart of who we are today. Britain has thousands of museums, but none comprehensively focused on this important theme that connects us all. The time is right for a highly relevant, accessible visitor attraction that shines a light on who we are, where we come from and where we are going. From our current home in the heart of Lewisham Shopping Centre, we stage engaging exhibitions and dynamic events, alongside a far-reaching education programme for primary, secondary, university and adult learners. We have a growing digital presence and convene a knowledge-sharing Migration Network of museums and galleries across the UK. The story so far The Migration Museum was founded by Barbara Roche, who first made the case for a migration museum for Britain almost 20 years ago, stemming from her time as Britain’s immigration minister, and from visiting similar museums in other parts of the world – notably Ellis Island in New York. Barbara assembled a founding team of people from different professional backgrounds who shared her passionate belief that Britain’s migration history should be placed at the heart of our national story. Together, they began to scope what a national migration museum might look like. Sophie Henderson, a former immigration judge and barrister, came on board as Director in 2013. Between 2013 and 2017, the Migration Museum staged pop-up exhibitions and events and ran education workshops at a wide range of venues across the UK, including the Southbank Centre, the National Maritime Museum and City Hall in London, the Museum of Oxford, Leicester railway station, and the National Records of Scotland in Edinburgh. My teenage years... IMG_20200922_093644_1.jpg were spent hanging out in the school art department (regardless of what class I was supposed to be in!) and it was there that Mr Alston, my wonderful art teacher directed and nurtured my love of art. Studying Art & Design and then Illustration, was a great foundation to my art career and helped me refine my skills as an artist. But as a naïve graduate, passionately producing illustrations and trying to make it in the freelance world - I soon realised it was going to be more difficult that I thought! I'd been working in Children's Services for 15 years running Youth Participation Projects, managing a Gypsy Roma Traveller Project and delivering a provision of services for the most hard to reach communities. This provided me with the most amazing experiences, as well as allowing me to use my art to benefit these groups. It's been a wonderful journey of learning and a fantastic platform in which to build my business. In 2016 I decided it was time to give up the office job and focus all my time on my community art work. It's been a brilliant time and I'm delighted that I still have daily experiences of working with such amazing people, from our wonderfully interesting communities. I hope that even if it's just in some little way, I am able to make a difference to the lives of those that I work with, through the medium of visual art. Audrey But freelancing for a few years whilst volunteering in the community, opened many new doors and ideas of what I could do with my visual arts. I went on to complete a degree in Community Arts and continued to work with community groups. This is where my love of creating art in the community became well and truly set. My passion for mural painting was formed following the completion of two large scale mural commissions in Scotland. Then with London calling, I completed my next 30 metre indoor mural at a special needs adventure playground in Hackney. In 2007 I was introduced to the medium of mosaic and I just completely fell in love with it!

Atlantic Bow (Communications) Limited was originally set up in 1994 by David Walls and the late Alexander Grant as a consultancy and project development firm. Dr. Stewart Massie was appointed Technical Director in 2009. We specialise in market research, risk management, open and distance learning, as well as research into combining information and communications technologies with legal, financial, commercial, educational and other professional services. We have worked largely in the fishing, seafood and aquaculture sectors. In particular, our EC funded report "The Seafood Industry of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and the West Coast: The Problems of Remoteness in a European Context" (EC Ref. UK-11-Focus, August 1997) had a major impact on the UK seafood industry and has been the basis of much of our subsequent work to date. More recently we were awarded an FIFG grant to carry out an "innovation" development project that looked at the vital question of the standardisation of data to facilitate data exchange across the seafood industry as a "proof of concept" project. To demonstrate the practical application of the draft standard specification that was developed, there was specific focus on quality management, compliance certification and audit in the field of organic aquaculture. This project was successfully completed in June 2008. The outcomes can be viewed at the AQuaManage section of our Scotsea site (see below). This has led on to the formation in 2016 of a new company, Evolve O-Pro Limited, which was set up to develop software to assist the professional or expert with the task of complex reporting, data collection and analysis. We have always been known for being a fun and approachable club. Currently we have around 40 members shooting all styles of bows. The club primarily consist of recurve and compound archers. There are still the odd few who shoot longbow, bare bow and more traditional styles. Some club members also practice other types of archery such as Clout, Flight and Field but unfortunately the club does not have the facilities to cater for these. Over the years the club has produced several top archers. Some of our juniors shot on the Scottish squad and team, representing Scotland all over Britain. We have Scottish record holders, British record holders, even a British Under 15 Junior Boy champion. The seniors have represented the club over the years with Scottish, British and even Olympic champions. Loreburn Archers certainly does have a good pedigree behind it and it is something we are extremely proud of. The club practises all year round. Our indoor season runs from September through to March. We currently shoot at St Joseph’s College Sports Hall. The outdoor season runs from March to September. Through the summer we practise outdoors at the Crichton Playing Field, when it is not raining or too windy to shoot. Directions can be found on our contact page. If you are thinking about taking up the sport, we run a beginners’ course once a year. Completing the beginners’ course is the only way for a novice to join the club. However if you have been a full shooting member of a club in the past, please get in touch with us to inquire about joining. Archery is a sport that is open, to all irrespective of ability. We encourage anyone and everyone to come along and have a shot, the club’s minimum age limit is set at 12 years old. Each November the clubs runs an open indoor competition attracting up to 80 archers from all over Britain. Loreburn Archers also run a number of Come and Try sessions at local Gala days during the summer season which introduces archery to a wider audience as well as raising funds for the club.

We’re one of the biggest community platform in the South of Scotland, and we work with our partners to use culture as means to improve the lives of our community who are experiencing high levels of social and rural isolation. As a unique social co-operative, we have over 170 voluntary members who contribute to our social model through volunteering, sponsorship or advocacy. Anyone can join our membership organisation. We have just taken over the Loreburn Hall in the centre of Dumfries which is a temporary cultural space, including an 80 seat cinema, 50 seat cabaret lounge, 50 seat black box theatre and a main hall with a capacity of 1200 Our work takes place in schools, residential homes, cafes, car parks, swimming pools and in all sorts of locations throughout our region. We believe that there are barriers that prevent members of our community taking part in culture and we do everything we can to deliver socially driven projects that help to improve the cultural health of our region through our seasons of projects which aim to increase resilience by connecting our community through our cultural programmes and services. Our signature projects include a diverse range of community arts based programmes and iconic place-making projects including our annual winter festival, Carlisle Fringe, Dumfries Carnival, Le Haggis, High Tea, Queer Haggis, Dumfries Youth Theatre, Dumfries Community Choir and Producers of the Future. Every year we deliver more than 300 shows across our festival programmes, as well as weekly community arts sessions to over 100 participants, creative industry training for emerging artists and the sector across Dumfries & Galloway, and traineeships in producing across our major projects. Our cultural skills development programme is one of the largest of its kind in the UK. At the centre of our work is the belief that we can use culture to connect people, we advocate that culture is good for our wellbeing and health, and that art is a form of human expression and creativity. Our network of over 100 associate artists and producers includes performance makers, producers, artists and collaborators who believe in the power of social change.

The Findhorn Nairn and Lossie Rivers Trust continue to address the issues facing our rivers and the wildlife that depends on them. Our FNLRT Management Plan 2021 details the diverse range of projects we are planning to help conserve and restore our river catchments. Over the course of the last two centuries removal of natural forests, overgrazing and changing land use have significantly degraded the ecosystems of our rivers. Moreover, we now face a climate crisis which is causing increasing global temperatures and dramatically changing weather patterns. These factors combine to present a very serious threat to wildlife in the catchment of our rivers, particularly to salmon. This demands our urgent attention and to tackle this we are delighted to launch the Findhorn Watershed Initiative. Through this ambitious initiative we seek to bring the River Findhorn Watershed’s communities, landowners, businesses, farmers, land managers, local authorities, and educational institutions together to work at nature’s scale to sink carbon, restore habitat, and mitigate the impacts of the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss for future generations. These are global threats, which require large scale programs and significant funding to begin to reverse the trends. The Trust recognises that we have an important part to play to ensure that our river catchments benefit from these initiatives. To be effective, projects will need to be coordinated at a scale beyond that of individual land holdings. A natural unit for this coordination is the river catchments. We will only succeed if we work in coalition with landowners and local interests, across catchments and with partners who enable scale and additional resources to be brought to bear on these issues. We continue to work with all our friends and partners to make a difference in this important work to improve the quality of our river environments. The Film and Video Workshop is an educational charity founded in June 1997 by Simon Oatley. Our objective is the education of adults, children and young people in the art of film, video and other types of media. We aim to work particularly with those people who are in need by reason of disability, age or economic circumstance. The company has grown steadily since its formation and is now the largest producer of child and young people directed moving image work in the United Kingdom. Many of the films we have helped produce have been shown in international film festivals and some have won prestigious awards. Each year we work with approximately 1000 film makers and produce some 300 films. Past clients include Tate modern, Tate Britain, The National Portrait Gallery, Arts Council, Film London, Film Council, Skillset, Cartoon Museum, Learning and Skills Council, Tribal Education, London Development Agency, ten of the London councils, BBC, Channel 4 and Nickelodeon. Recent premiere screenings have been held at the London Imax Cinema and the Odeon West End. In addition we provide adult training, specialising in the creative use of digital technology. The current courses selection includes four video production courses, stop motion, animation techniques, after effects, Avid and FCP. We subsidise a selection of introduction courses to enable people to start filmmaking as well as provide CPD for professionals. All our courses have a 40% reduction for concessions. The media centre is open 6 days a week with over 80 weekly users. The company is managed by an unpaid board of directors to whom we are very grateful for their long standing support. In the Winter of 2014, Pole Place opened its first studio just South of London in West Sussex. A second studio followed shortly after north of the border in the heart of Glasgow’s city centre. Founded by Ruby Rose Jackson in her hometown of Horsham, Pole Place’s original home was on the second floor of a popular bar on Piries Place - B52’s. Ruby had long dreamt of opening her own Pole studio having become hooked years earlier. Qualifying as an instructor, and with an ever-growing Pole skillset combined with a natural passion for teaching and inspiring those around her the initial idea of Pole Place was firmly at the visionary stage. Like any new business, funding was required to move it from the ideas stage to cutting the ribbon. With the studio as the inspiration Ruby began to fly as cabin crew with British Airways. Without revealing the un-glamorous side to air travel, on many random nights in many random places, hotel rooms all around the world became Ruby’s office - any spare minute she could find would go into business planning, designing, developing and creating her dream - Pole Place. Her dedication eventually paid off and she was able to leave her full-time post flying to finally open Pole Place’s studio doors. Pole Place initially began with a handful of clients. Steadily growing within the first couple of years, the Horsham studio later moved into our larger, current home on Church Street in Warnham. In 2016, a change in Ruby’s personal life presented her with a family move to Scotland. This gave way for an ideal opportunity to open a Pole Place sister venue on West Nile Street in Glasgow’s city centre which provides our Scottish “hame”! At Pole Place, we are extremely proud to have created a safe space for anyone to come and step out of their comfort zone and into an exciting new world. Where hair is flicked, confidence is boosted and dreams are made. Growing over the years, we have had the pleasure of teaching thousands of clients across both our studios. With nine instructors within our team, we are honoured to provide support and inspiration to all of our clients. From teaching the basics to mastering tricks, giving new skills, confidence and empowering one another.
