Lives and works in Brighton & Hove, United Kingdom. ARTISTS STATEMENT: I am a contemporary mosaic artist. My goal? To celebrate and challenge the art of mosaic. Colour underpins everything I create. The approach: intuitive. In my work over twenty five yearsI have developed a striking and vibrant style. The work has included architectural wall and floor features, decorative pieces and sculptures. Whilst developing my sculptural practice I was one of the first in Britain to import concrete construction techniques specifically for mosaic making from North America. This led to my recent postgraduate enquiry into how to translate fragment to form. To take the tile (tesserae) from the surface and make it the object in itself. After all, mosaic originated in Roman construction techniques, it did not begin as decoration. Experience in working to commission for private, corporate and public clients has equipped me with a broad spectrum of skills. They range from design and making to fine judgement about enhancing a space. It is underpinned by a careful interpretation of the clients’ requirements. The art of mosaic, often overlooked and undervalued, is rich in culture, materials and skill. It’s traditions and versatility I continue enthusiastically to embrace. My purpose? To stimulate discussion about the mosaic-making process and to contribute to its' position as both a craft and a fine art form. Currently I focus on producing new sculptural artwork for exhibition and sale.

Paths to Learning was established as an EDUCATION CONSULTANCY, by Felicity Gunn, in 2018. ITS PRIMARY PURPOSE WAS TO SUPPORT PARENTS IN FINDING THE BEST EDUCATION FOR THEIR CHILDREN IN THE UK. Parents may have been: British and returning home after working abroad, or international and seeking a boarding school in the UK or looking for a Special School for a child with Learning Needs. Felicity placed a significant number of children successfully, in a wide range of schools, both maintained and independent. UNDERSTANDING CULTURES emerged as a key theme for: advising schools in the UK receiving children from other countries, and parents and their children who were coming to the UK. To that end she ran a Virtual Summit entitled KNOWING CULTURE FOR BETTER EDUCATION 2020 at which 20 eminent speakers including head teachers, school managers, pastoral leaders and cultural consultants, contributed insights in how to manage the complexities and nuances of cross-cultural relations, thereby ensuring a fruitful educational experience for children unfamiliar with “the way we do things here.” All talks have been transcribed and are still available at no cost. As Covid 19 sped around the globe it was clear that few parents would be moving, or wanting their children to travel to the UK, for their education. Then early in 2021, Felicity married and moved to Derbyshire. My passion for travel started when I was 17, leaving home and going to the Irish traditional city of Galway on the beautiful west coast of Ireland to live and work. This journey has continued and never wavers to the current day. I’m always looking for the next adventure and to “step outside my comfort zone” I have taught English and lived in San Francisco, Sydney, Melbourne, Hungary, Spain and traveled extensively all over Asia and the Pacific. pexels-photo-1560932 Educational Tourism I currently work in Educational tourism and I’m the European Project Manager for Foyle International Ltd. I oversee Erasmus work-based internships from all over Europe. I also write large funding applications to give local people the opportunity to experience different cultures, learn new working ethics and enhance their employability skills. Ethos I believe that travel and experiential learning are paramount to one’s development. This includes tourism that focuses on history, culture, heritage, outdoor and therapeutic activities. If you looking to try out some pottery classes here in Dorset, why not begin your journey now and start creating pieces yourself. Here at Cedar Pottery, I will guide you through the various techniques in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Hand building, throwing on the wheel, sculpturing can all be tried. Glazing can be fun too and I will help you to understand this interesting part of the art of pottery. You are more than welcome to visit the studio to find out more about the environment you will be working in, the classes available and have a chat about what you want to achieve. There are six places per pottery course meaning we can tailor the classes to suit you, your level of skill and your creativity! It doesn’t matter how much potting experience you have – total beginner or happy hobby potter. I can offer one-to-one time to tutor each individual, and so the making schedule can be flexible. I am a thrower, but can also tutor in hand building and sculpture work and will take you through the various techniques needed to throw good pots. Currently I have two electric wheels. We run 2 hour taster courses, 1/2 day and one-day courses and for those who want to really develop their skill, then we have a 8 week intensive course.

Here are the most interesting Polish customs which is good to be familiar with: Curious people Polish people are very curious towards international visitors. They are very much interested in different cultures, however if you only look back – nothing has happened 😉 Shaking hands It is very Polish to shake hands when you introduce yourself. YOu do it always with your right, bare hand. It is considered impolite if you do it in a glove. Keeping an eye contact When speaking to someone, keep an eye contact for most of the time. It is not necessary to keep it all the time. If you do not, you might not get what you want. Personal questions It is quite common in Poland to be asked questions which are often considered as private. As Poles are curious people, they like to get into little details, so do not forget to be assertive. Meal schedule Food in Poland is often fat and served with meat. Soups are very popular and offer a great variety of types & tastes. Typically in Poland people eat 3 times a day. Bruderszaft It is a fraternal toast, after which Polish people start to address each other with first names, and declining it can be seen as an insult. Relationships become more cordial after this little ceremony. Bruderszaft is two people raising toasts simultaneously with arms interlocked and drinking. The last part is an exchange of kisses and a handshake.
