I am an experienced teacher based in Ilkley specialising in Secondary School Mathematics. I offer individual tuition in Maths for pupils from Upper Primary School through GCSE to A Level. By working as a tutor on a one-to-one basis I can build on the teaching received in school by identifying their individual needs and recognising and resolving their difficulties with this key subject. I believe all young people have the ability to achieve in Mathematics and the key ingredient is having confidence that you can master the topic. Many people are familiar with that feeling of not knowing where to start in maths and the loss of confidence undermines motivation making understanding difficult. By working with a tutor pupils can identify what they are able to do and then progress from the point at which they feel secure. Pace and approach is individually tailored to their needs and compliments methods already met in school. I have worked in Maths Education throughout my adult life. I gain a great deal of pleasure from working with young people and contributing to their development. For me the greatest reward professionally comes when a pupil has been struggling with a topic and suddenly they ‘get it’. I am also available to tutor adults who are seeking to improve their maths or need support to gain a maths qualification. During in the COVID 19 pandemic I continued to tutor using Zoom. This worked well and there are some advantages to using this medium - sharing IT content, recording worksheets plus no need for the student to travel to a lesson. Face to face tutoring is also an option at my home address, where I have a dedicated tutoring room. I shall be pleased to discuss the assistance you or you child needs and also the most suitable method for teaching the maths session. Hey, I am Nisi, and for those that are wondering ‘Yirdlins’ is Scots for ‘Earthwards’ or to ‘the Earth.’ I teach Hatha Yoga – the union of the Sun (Ha) and the Moon (tha). The aim of Hatha Yoga is to still the mind through postures, pranayama and meditation. But I also find stillness of mind when working with the natural flow of the seasons and being out in nature, hence the name Yirldins. I was first introduced to yoga in 1994. But it wasn’t until 2014, when I started working with a yoga teacher one to one, that my practice developed into something deeper. I began to feel the benefits of doing yoga on and off the mat, developing an innate awareness of emotions in my body. This has allowed me to manage them more effectively to create a sense of calm, both in body and mind. In 2018, I committed to becoming a yoga teacher and signed up for Yoga Scotland‘s Foundation Course (a pre requisite to their teacher training) and in 2019, their 500-hour teacher training course, becoming fully qualified in 2021. I am a qualified Forest School & Outdoor Leader which allows me to take yoga out into mither nature to complement and enrich your yoga experience. I also have an extensive ten-year practice in Further and Higher education leading, developing and delivering courses to both young people and adults. A mental health activist, I have been advocating to change the negative narratives and stigma around mental health for the last decade by combining different disciplines in botanical illustration, photography and woodcraft to highlight the relationship that exists between creativity, nature and mental health. My Pilates journey started after I was diagnosed with scoliosis (curvature of the spine) as a teenager and underwent several operations to fuse a large part of my spine with rods. I was introduced to Pilates by my Physio and it became part of my early rehab - which then developed into a love for Pilates in my adult life. Pilates, on the mat and using the apparatus, has had a huge impact on my physical and mental wellbeing. To such an extent that it led me to want to help others experience Positive Movement Every Day. I work with my clients, largely on a one to one basis, identifying their needs and developing a personal movement programme whether that be for rehab, athletic training or general well being. We use the suite of Pilates apparatus (reformer, tower, chair) as well as the mat and smaller equipment (eg spine corrector, blocks and balls). If you are hoping that Pilates will help with your pain management, I can provide information on how it has helped me over the years. I have true empathy with all chronic pain sufferers and my goal is, over time, to help you improve your quality of life. I have lived in and around South Woodford for most of my life and love that my job enables me to meet and help other local people. I am a mum to two children, plus our newest addition - a puppy. They all keep me very busy and active, something that would have been a daily struggle without Pilates in my life. MY TRAINING I completed my comprehensive (mat and apparatus) Pilates training with Polestar Pilates. I am a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher and a member of the Pilates Teachers Association.
