We are a College of Further Education, providing and delivering BTEC Level 2 & 3 extended National Diplomas in Sport (Rugby). Our campus is based at Sedgley Park RUFC, a National Level 2 North Rugby Union club, in Whitefield, Greater Manchester. This is the first college of its kind to be based in a working rugby club, using the ethos and values of the game to help teach and mould the future generations playing, coaching and running this wonderful game of rugby. The advantages to our students are many, such as the opportunity to observe, first hand, how a semi-professional club runs and operates and how multi-discipline services are delivered. As a Speech and Language Therapist passionate about supporting children’s communication skills, I’ve created this as a space to share information, resources and ideas. I have extensive experience of working with children from 2-16 years with a range of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). I studied to become a Speech and Language Therapist at Newcastle University and developed my enthusiasm for supporting children’s communication throughout the course. Since being qualified (2011) I have worked in the NHS in the North East and in Yorkshire, supporting children in the community, early years and school settings. I have also worked directly for schools supporting the individual needs of the children as well as leading on staff training and development in specific areas of Speech and Language. I believe that communication is a vital skill in order to participate in a range of activities of daily living. Everyone deserves the support required to enable them to communicate effectively. I have worked with children with a range of SLCN and have particular interests in supporting children’s early language, speech sound development and selective mutism. The information presented on this website contains ideas and resources to develop speech and language skills in children and is designed to support, not replace, consultation with a Speech and Language Therapist. My name is Jo Souter and I am an experienced specialist dyslexia teacher and assessor. I am passionate about helping children to unlock their potential! As a result my teaching is personalised to each student and draws on their strengths. My philosophy is that if your child doesn't understand something, then it is up to me to teach it differently. Up until having my children, I was a full time class teacher in a primary school. Therefore I understand the demands of teaching a class of 30 children each with differing strengths and difficulties! My skill is in creating a positive learning environment in which your child can thrive. After missing school due to Covid my daughter had sessions with Jo to increase her confidence. 35 Design Space is an interactive studio set up to share craft knowledge and bring creative classes to all. Our classes are hands on and we hope that you learn a new skill and have a great time doing it! We aim to provide a creative learning environment to support and inspire fellow crafters. Alongside offering current and innovative workshop classes we want to promote historical textile crafts and share these endangered crafts to encourage their revival. If you wish to arrange a private event or book a custom made session please get in touch. Our studio can accommodate parties of up to 15. We'd love to help you celebrate occasions such as your birthday, baby shower, hen party and Christmas events with a workshop tailored to you. Lives and works in Brighton & Hove, United Kingdom. ARTISTS STATEMENT: I am a contemporary mosaic artist. My goal? To celebrate and challenge the art of mosaic. Colour underpins everything I create. The approach: intuitive. In my work over twenty five yearsI have developed a striking and vibrant style. The work has included architectural wall and floor features, decorative pieces and sculptures. Whilst developing my sculptural practice I was one of the first in Britain to import concrete construction techniques specifically for mosaic making from North America. This led to my recent postgraduate enquiry into how to translate fragment to form. To take the tile (tesserae) from the surface and make it the object in itself. After all, mosaic originated in Roman construction techniques, it did not begin as decoration. Experience in working to commission for private, corporate and public clients has equipped me with a broad spectrum of skills. They range from design and making to fine judgement about enhancing a space. It is underpinned by a careful interpretation of the clients’ requirements. The art of mosaic, often overlooked and undervalued, is rich in culture, materials and skill. It’s traditions and versatility I continue enthusiastically to embrace. My purpose? To stimulate discussion about the mosaic-making process and to contribute to its' position as both a craft and a fine art form. Currently I focus on producing new sculptural artwork for exhibition and sale.
