We aim to become a key hub for emerging fiction filmmaking talent in Scotland, supporting writers, directors and producers to develop creatively and professionally, and stimulating the creative and commercial success of Scotland’s film sector. Short Circuit has an international outlook, helping Scotland-based filmmakers navigate the hugely exciting opportunities of the short film and first feature world. Sharp Shorts Our short film scheme – Sharp Shorts – invites teams, writers and writer/directors to submit their short film ideas, and also encourages directors and producers to submit a note of interest to take part. This year, up to 12 projects will be selected to take part in a 3-month development phase. After pitching for a production award in September 2022, up to 9 projects will be selected to receive up to £15,000 of funding. Applications for Sharp Shorts 2022 are now closed. Further information is published here. First Features First Features supports projects from initial idea to fully polished draft. There will be two levels of awards, distinguished between early development (to treatment or first draft) and further development (second draft and beyond). You will be able to apply via the online application form for support at either level. The scheme is for writing, writing/directing and producing talent from all across Scotland who have bold and compelling fiction projects with theatrical ambition and the potential to resonate with audiences globally.

We hold many different events, where members and potential members can get to know each other, and become involved in all sorts of interesting activities. As a charity that focuses on education and opportunities for women, we are a group of over 8,000 women in Surrey that work together for our common goals. Each WI in Surrey is a member of the Federation and they meet at least monthly to engage in a wide range of interesting activities, including clubs, groups and events. At monthly meetings members enjoy practical workshops and lectures. However, it is important that we also have the opportunity to engage outside of our individual WIs. So as a Federation, we aim to put on events in different parts of the county so that all members have the opportunity to attend. We have a presence at agricultural shows, hold workshops and have two countywide meetings each year in Dorking. Our wide variety of events ranges from literary lunches, a day out in London either for Christmas shopping or for a walking tour with a blue badge guide, fiendish quizzes, cream teas, fashion shows, down to learning new crafts such as portrait painting or willow weaving. Everything is possible and the members are encouraged to send in their ideas for the committees to consider for future events.

Dr. Erica Colón is a National Board Certified Teacher with over twelve years of teaching experience in 6th-12th grade secondary science, including Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Marine Science. In 2008 Erica earned her Master’s in Educational Administration, but quickly realized her passion was working with science teachers. Erica returned to earn her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction in 2011, and through one of life’s unexpected turns, she founded Nitty Gritty Science, LLC and has reached tens of thousands of science teachers all around the globe! In 2020, a global pandemic changed the course of history, quickly changing our daily lives in all aspects, and in the scope of education it changed how teachers taught and how students learned. Everywhere educators faced pandemic-driven remote learning that they had to navigate on their own, practically overnight. Looking for ways to support science teachers, Dr. Colón gathered science educators, communicators, and field scientists to learn from one another, as well as share ideas, struggles, and perseverance of added workloads and in doing so, brought together a team of champions! As you may have guessed my passion is Ceramics and especially the hand building techniques such as ‘coiling’ and ‘slab building’ which I than carve back at the leather dry clay stage. I am intrigued by the Raku firing technique although Stoneware firing is a also a strong process in the finishing technique of my work. I like to classify myself as a Ceramicist rather than a Potter as I tend to think of a potter as artist that competently uses the wheel to produce functional work. I always find it hard to describe my work as it varies so much and takes it insperation from so many areas and influiences and these change regularly, one thing for sure is that I have more ideas in my head than I’m ever going to be able to make. As well a exhibiting locally and nationally I also teach and run workshops for Raku Firing and handbuilding. As I build my own Raku kilns I can now offer this as a service, so if you are interested please get in contact. I have been lucky to make some great friends through ceramics along the way and have to thank them all for enriching my life and saving me from complete madness.
