Our colleges have extensive networks of public and private sector partners and work with more than 10,000 businesses, supporting their staff in apprenticeships and other training. Each year Lancashire’s colleges train 10,000 apprentices and all have apprenticeship achievement rates above the national average. Two thirds of Lancashire’s 16-18 year old learners (not including apprentices) study in Lancashire’s colleges. Almost 7,500 or 13% of higher education (HE) students based in Lancashire study at Lancashire’s colleges compared with 4% nationally. The 2nd and 3rd largest HE in FE providers nationally are Lancashire colleges with a further Lancashire college in the top 20.

Graduating students can progress to a University programme, either to join at Undergraduate entry level, usually on completion of Level 3, or onto a “top-up” Degree, depending on the level of their OFQUAL programme. At Level 5 it is the final year, Level 6 will give entry to post graduate programmes and Level 7 gives exemptions from certain Masters programmes including MBA. Top-up courses require you to have a diploma qualification in a relevant subject; this means that the course of study should be closely tied to your previous qualification. However, it does not have to be the same subject. This flexibility allows our students to have a wide range of career or completion prospects upon graduation.

After completing her MA she became a teacher of web design later co-founding Silicon Beach Training with her husband Andy Davies back in 2000. Much of the past 15 years has been spent developing SEO and digital marketing practices and training courses at Silicon Beach. Now Heather has freed herself up to focus on her passion – photography. She takes on commissions, is featured in and writes for many articles online and in popular photography magazines.
